englands v wales 2012 6 nations.
and south africa v england 2007 rwc.
more about the fact that they could have been tries and changed history rather than being great visual efforts

I agree that they would have been great for the results they would have changed.

But if Tait had finished that run off with a try in 07, it would've been one of the great tries in RWC history.

I think I liked it purely for dramatic reasons and because he ran the entire pitch.
Everyone wanted Mark to bag a try because he didn't score a lot and he was so unlucky with double cruciate injuries.

Hey, I was at that match. I think it was also Kyran Bracken's last match. They play blew everyone away. One of the greatest plays I have ever seen.Dim wrote:not international but I've always liked the one at 1.44 in this video:

One from the Heineken Cup last year. Very nearly one of tries of the HEC.

I've not scored a staggering number of brilliant tries in my time.

Mark Jones' run at the start of this is definitely up there. Magical atmosphere, and would have been the perfect end to an incredible game (and campaign), but Martyn popped up a few minutes later, which was equally thrilling.
For pure individual brilliance, though, this is great. Not sure if it tops Beale's... ...but definitely worth a mention.

Jeff Wilson with a stunning run and that man George Gregan pulling off an incredible covering tackle that broke my heart and made me feel that I had been personally robbed by the same man. What a tackle and what a moment in the context of the game.

The one that sticks in my mind was i think it was Ben Blair playi9ng for the Abs against England, and being cut down be Ben Cohen about 5 feet from the line. I think it was 2002.

Re: Greatest "nearly" try of all time?
The last try I nearly scored was in 1992.
I got the ball from the halfback, ran into the defence and offloaded to the inside centre.
Problem is I was on the halfway line at the time.

Re: Greatest "nearly" try of all time?
The 1973 Barbarians v All Blacks is almost universally said to contain the 'greatest try of all time'. And it was an absolutely great try, but there was an even better try scored in that match that was actually disallowed. I cannot remember who scored it or why it was disallowed, but had it been scored, it would probably trump Edwards's effort just 3 minutes into the match.

My favourite "nearly" try is from 2007. Leguizamon showing how not to do a splashton.
