3 Wood or 4 Iron off the tee
Just seeing which people prefere to be honest. I was using my 3 Wood on long tee shots (I dont use a driver at the moment) but found that even though I was hitting the ball cleanly it was going up in the air quite a bit and then dropping suddenly therefore I was not gaining a huge amount of distance. Hit a 3 Wood off the fairway (it is called a 'Fairway Wood after all) and I seem to be hitting it nice and low and gaining good ground. I didnt really use the 4 Iron for a while as wanted to focus on other clubs but now I am thinking that getting to grips with my 4 Iron off the tee would be possibly gaining me more yardage than the 3 Wood off the tee
Any advice would be welcome as I have only taken golf back up over the last year and still getting to know which clubs are best for me

If you hit the three wood ok off the fairway, try hitting it without a tee peg from the teeing ground. Should be the same result.

Assuming you hit them both properly you'll never get more distance from your 4-iron. Tried teeing your 3-wood lower off the tee? Sounds like it's going abnormally high off the tee cf. the fairway and it's obviously not a swing/shaft issue.

Most people hit a three wood further than a four iron.

A three wood is typically 15 deg and a 4 iron is 25 deg.
A three wood also has a longer shaft and for those two reasons will go further.

I use a broken off stub of a tee for my 3 wood. just to give it a nice lie really, no higher or as George suggests, play it off a nice tuft.
And it'll go considerably further than your 4 iron.

Thanks for the advice fellas. Think im gonna brave the Driver next time as it goes. Since my swing has come on I think I have now got the confidence to use it. A few wide slices and lost balls could change that pretty quick mind

If you are hitting your 4 iron furthar than your 3 wood- then you need to either get another 3 wood or sort out your swing!!

Is this a serious question??
A 3 wood has the 2nd lowest loft in the bag so will go yards further than a 4 iron when hit correctly.

Re: 3 Wood or 4 Iron off the tee
to get alot of distance from woods on tees- tee the ball up v high and hover the club- hit the ball on the slight up (this will impart less spin- virtual top spin over back spin- the reality is off course you cant implant no spin or top spin on a golf ball due to physics- the ball wouldnt go in the air!)
if you are hitting the ball high but with no penaetration- i suggest you may be either hitting down on the ball, or you are semi skying the ball(hitting the ball from the top part of the club!)

this is exactly what i do for all clubs other than the driver- purely use the tee as a method of giving the ball a good consistent lie.

Re: 3 Wood or 4 Iron off the tee
On par 3's or par 4's where i hit irons or when i want to fade my 3 woodfrom the tee i just dig the tee up slighlty with my club head nd stick the ball on a slightly raised position- so i dont use tees at all.
If i want to hit it out there with driver or i want to hit a swinging draw with my 3 wood i tee it up and hit the ball on the up
