Fight of the Night honours?
UFC 129: St. Pierre .vs. Shields
UFC 129: St. Pierre .vs. Shields
With UFC 129 now just a few days away, I thought I'd put it to you, the good 606v2ers, who do you think will come out on top in the match-ups?;
Main Card
Welterweight Championship bout: Georges St-Pierre (c) vs. Jake Shields (CTB: GSP)Featherweight Championship bout: José Aldo (c) vs. Mark Hominick (CTB: Aldo)
Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz
Light Heavyweight bout: Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida
Lightweight bout: Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson (CTB: Henderson)
Preliminary card (Spike TV)
Welterweight bout: Nate Diaz vs. Rory MacDonald (CTB: Diaz)
Welterweight bout: Sean Pierson vs. Brian Foster (CTB: Pierson)
Preliminary Card
Featherweight bout: Yves Jabouin vs. Pablo Garza
Welterweight bout: Claude Patrick vs. Daniel Roberts
Bantamweight bout: Ivan Menjivar vs. Charlie Valencia
Middleweight bout: Jason MacDonald vs. Ryan Jensen
Lightweight bout: John Makdessi vs. Kyle Watson
Now, I will never claim to know as much as some of the MMA fans on this site. So the fights I believe I can guess the victor, I have done so in bold at the end of the fight.
For added spice, a little poll. Which match up can you see winning Fight of the Night honours?

Re: UFC 129: St. Pierre .vs. Shields
I quite like the look of the card.
For the wins:
GSP
Aldo
Brilz (if nothing but his name - hes brill!")
I hope Machida wins even though I love Randy
Bocek
cant see GSP ever getting a fight of the night - he is too good and negates his opponents so much, the fights come over as boring quite often.
Went for the Machida fight instead.

Completely agree with you regarding GSP, Hobo. Can't ever see him winning FotN (unless he has done already, which maks me look rather stupid...).
But I have to question the choice of Couture .vs. Machida for FotN... seems a strange one considering the explosiveness of these two;
José Aldo (c) vs. Mark Hominick
Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson
I've been watching a lot of the WEC events on the Extreme channel lately, and can honestly say that both Aldo and Henderson are ninjas.
In fact, the only reason I haven't chosen Aldo .vs. Hominick as FotN is because I don't see it lasting more than 3 minutes of the 1st round.
I also mentioned this on the old 606...I just can't help rooting for old TUF alumni. Even the mental cases like Junie Browning.
In fact, in terms of TUF alumni going on to success in the UFC, my favourite season (5) surely has to have produced the most long-lasting (for want of a better phrase) fighters over any TUF season.

Re: UFC 129: St. Pierre .vs. Shields
Aldo vs Hominick for me....think Also will win but not so convincingly as some people think
However the more and more i think about it the GSP/Shields fight will be a stand up clinic by GSP - no way is he taking Shields to the floor - he is about 2 or 3 levels above Shields in the striking department. I can see GSP stopping him before the championship rounds.
Diaz vs MacDonald should also be a humdinger!

I just think that machidas and Randy are made for each other style wise.
They both have so many different game plans over the years, I just have a feeling that it could be a real back and forth encounter, with a split decision at the end of it.
You are right, on paper maybe not, but I just have that feeling.

Re: UFC 129: St. Pierre .vs. Shields
ive gone for diaz fight for fight of the night. certain fighters like clay, sanchez and the diaz brothers step into the ring and usually is pretty good. would be shocked if the gsp fight is anywhere near fight of the night. although with shields ground game gsp will want to keep it standing. can see a boxing lesson bit like the kos fight although perhaps with a stoppage.
looking forward to see aldo fight, havnt seen much of him from his wec days. expect machida to see randy off pretty easily
