I love the bit about an NRL team playing the All Blacks...as if that would ever happen. Good journalism, as ever, Beeb

Re: Another cross-code game?
The rules sound stupid. For a minute I thought they were impossible then I realised just poorly explained. But those are stupid rules

Seems like an article written just to fill space. Silly stuff.

Re: Another cross-code game?
A stupid concept which is worthy only for Comic Relief
Maybe these rules should b reversed at half time so that RU fans could watch their game at one end whilst RL folk could do likewise at the other.
Everyone should be forced to wear red noses.
Not surprised that this concept is supported by Bob Dwyer - and given the relative dominance of RL and weakness of scrummaging over there. So most likely takers from Union would be an Australian side.
rugby league is played while a team is in their own half and the rules switched to rugby union as they cross into the opposition's territory.

Re: Another cross-code game?
I can just imagine, your are in possession, it it your 5th play, there is 10 yards to make before you cross the middle line, you know if you don't make it, it is an automatic turn over under rugby League rules, so you need to make that hlafway line, as you can then have a ruck and get the ball back.
But you are only 13 players against 15, what to do, there is no overlaps and the defence is ruching up and has cut off your wing. you know you should throw a hail mary pass and hope he gets it, becuase surely his pace should be enough to gain those vital ten yards.
Because Bryce Lawrence is the referee and you have seen the SA vs Oz quarter final, you know you can't throw a flat pass as it will be called forward, the fact that your jumper is green doesn't help.
So you throw a deep pass, but now the wing has to make 20 yards, will he do it.
His pace is enough to get him to the halfway line, but then he is tackled, and because of habit he starts having a fit on the halfway line and forgets to let go of the ball. Lawrence fortunately isn't going to get involved and waves play to go on, The Union team however have been expecting this and simply rucks over the man, but still he holds onto the ball, and yet no penalty is forthcoming.
So there is only one option left for the union team, drag the league player holding onto the ball, back into his half. and viola, automatic turn over.
