How good was Gazza? I was too young to remember his time at Spurs and Newcastle where he was at his best. Are people rating him because he was such a wonderful player or because it's Gazza the sob story who won our hearts and is a typical loser like Bruno and other of our sportsmen.

From what I've seen and heard Gazza was not the great player but a great talent who never made it and showed spells but never consistent enough. I would love to hear the opinions of the older guys.

I was waiting for your reply being a bit older you'd have a diffrent team to some of us, what about Glenn Hoddle I know he was a top club player but how did he do for England.

Where has this Gerrard love in come from? Am I the only one who wouldn't have him in my side? Frank Lampard has done a lot more for England then Gerrard and you can tell that the managers prefered him over Gerrard letting him play more advanced then Gerrard.

I was 10 when Mexico 86 was on and I don't recall a huge amount of how good Hoddle was but I remember Robson getting an injury that ruled him out of the rest of the tournament and Wilkins getting a red card. Lineker was just a goal machine in that tournament though.

I only stuck Gerrard in because I couldn't recall anyone ever being that decent down the left wing for England and often Gerrard got shoved there. I was tempted in Barnes but he was for the most part poor for England barring a fantastic goal v Brazil.

Sol would have been a sub for me but I can't see past Tony Adams and Des Walker.
Walker was genuine World quality and is often overlooked nowadays.

I have always felt back then (1996-2002 era), with the depth of midfield talent we had, we should have played 5 in midfield with Shearer as the target man. Get Scholes and Gerrard to run in from midfield.

Gerrard didn't always preform well, but that was due to him playing a different position than the one at Liverpool. I would still plump for him over Lampard, especially during the era that I was thinking of

Star Players update

1 Star Player shall be allowed to be purchased in pre season (on a date tbd)
The max amount allowed for a Star Player is £40m though this shall be via private auction rather than the usual first come first served TP thread.

Basically it will run the same as when everyone originally bidded for their teams.

Prior to the Star Player Auction there will be a End of Season lawyer clearout where there will be 5 lawyer offers to your club.

It could be like a players contract is running out, your board force you to accept the offer and sell

You could get Tesco value scallop and king prawn linguini with pesto sauce, I'm sure. But who wants that nonsense when you can have two flame grilled beef patties, three slices of bacon cooked to perfection, and crispy fries?

I don't think it's exactly fair to be forced to sell players personally. Maybe a better solution is to nominate three players you are willing to let go and then you'll get lawyers for them, plus two random. It'd be like a transfer list.

Because then you don't keep the same squad OK

I've done it before in leagues, it works well, puts the players back in foreigns and ensures the longevity of the league.

I agree with Mighty you HAVE to sell three players otherwise it keeps the league more active.

I think the three MUST SELLS should be picked at random out of the 5 offers. As I said, its like The Board fprce you sell as the offer is too good.

Hero, are we getting boardroom targets etc. I remember in one league we had them. Stuff like:
So and so gets 20 goals its an extra £4m from his sponsors to the club.
Shirt sponsors.
The Board have sold the stadia nameing rights for £5m
N so forth

Would you like us to give you all £100m each and open up TP's to all players? No. Keep money at a minimum and it keeps the league running longer.
