First point of note, Bhop comes in to the sound of love music?

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
Steve Lilis has an interesting prediction of Hopkins quitting on his stool.
I think it's going to be a very similar scrappy affair. Going to put my neck out and say Dawson stoppage.
Though it'll probably be a boring UD for Dawson.

Dawsons round, cagey, but Dawson controlled that easily.

Closer round, but I'd have to give that one to Hopkins, Dawson had some decent flurries but BHop landed cleaner shots.

Headbutt was blatant - Hopkins has been looking for that shot all night!

Dawson is blowing it hto, letting seconds go by with no punches. throw combos man! Otherwise Bhop will befuddle him

3 - 2 to Hopkins at round 5. Dawson was more active in that round.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
Ref should start having words about the holding and spoiling now. Just because it's Hopkins doesn't mean he's immune from the holding. He's ruining the flow of the fight.
I've got it 3-3 now.

Dawson just thinks way too much. Why isn't he getting off more? Close fight, 2nd 6 will be interesting as Bhop tires. if he does haha

I think he's trying to keep range and not allow Hopkins inside with his head. I've got it 4-3 to BHop at the mo.

Dawsons round, 4 a piece now. I can see this going to a Majority decision.

Nah, not a pretty fight at all. Very frustrating for the fans and especially for Dawson who has been headbutted and spun to death in this.
6-4 Dawson.

I won't lie, I'm finding this one difficult to score!
I've got it 6-5 to Dawson, looks like Dawsons corner believe the same too.

Dawson had a tough night, regardless of what HBO are saying. I actually had it a draw.

Can't get a better prediction, granted it was at round 4, but that was a tough fight. The better fighter won.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
I think I scored too favourable to BHop just for the lack of Dawsons work rate and I thought BHop scored some cleaner shots in a couple of earlier rounds.

Dawson won it, but was ugly and dawson should have fired much more from range. That said, a W is a W i suppose.

Yeah, hopefully this will be the last time we see Hopkins, I'm fed up of those kind of fights from him. He has had some great wins but this is the standard from him.

Bad fight.
Thought Dawson was a clear winner only gave BHop 2 rounds...
Boring, but not suprising.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
I caught a replay online today. Had it 2 rounds to Hopkins and one even. The rest to Dawson. Not surprised by the lack of action, Hopkins would do well to bow out now while he can still be competetive against the best.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
He can only be competetive because he refuses to fight properly, just tries to mug his opponents off, don't get me wrong he's great at it and it's a testament to hismental and physical conditioning to still be fighting at 47 and remaining "Competetive" against world class fighters, but gotta be honest, I wish he'd retire.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
Whilst I agree that he should retire now, Dawson was all wrong for him. Turn back the clock a little to both Pascal fights, he still looked potent against world class (if slightly cruder) opposition...

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
I thought the Pascal fights were as good an indication of any that Hopkins was a fading force. Many people treat those fights as great wins. But I think they are only good performances in the context of Hopkins age. I thought he won both fights but only by a point or two. A Hopkins near his best should be beating a fighter like Pascal by almost shutout.
I thought Dawson won handily last night ( 114-114 card??) but I expected him to actually look a little better doing it. He got the better of the scrappy encounter but I was hoping he could rise above that kind of fight.

Hopkins will still continue. He could beat Cloud IMO. Personally I want him to retire as he is running out of relevent opposition he can beat. But Cloud yes. Although Cloud will be fighting and losing to Pascal soon enough.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
I suppose you have a good point Sean, BHop Cloud would probably be a decentish fight qwith Cloud being so one dimensional I could see it rather possible for BHop to mess him up.

he could probably bash him up pretty good, Cloud is one dimensional and Hopkins could pot shot him no problems.

Cloud is agressive and strong though. Hopkins has a very good chance at outboxing Cloud, but there's also a real chance Tavoris could knock him out. I don't want to see his career end that way. He's got nothing left to prove.

You're right. But Bhop wont want to go out on a defeat. So maybe an easy homecoming? But doubt it

Glad I worked overtime in the early hours of Sun instead of staying up for what sounds like an absolute stinker. I'm actually waiting for the 9.30 Sun night repeat to come on but after reading these comments I'll give it a miss. If it was Hopkins' last fight then good riddance. A 24 year career that produced a number of watchable fights that could easily be counted on one hand isn't good enough for a so-called 'legend'.

Spot on. Too many self styled legends in the sport today who cant back it up. Luckily there are still people around who can remember watching real top boxers like Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvellous Marvin Hagler and Tommy Hearns. All of whom would make short work of the big mouths around today. The likes of Hopkins and Mayweather should just be thankful they are around now instead of back then. Legends in their own minds only.

Personally i wouldn't class Bernard Hopkins as a legend either, agreat fighter and champion, yes. Time for him to retire.

I know it wasn't the greatest middleweight division either but he dominated it and unified all the belts. A lot of people have him as a top 5 all time middleweight that would make you a legend surely.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
Some harsh appraisals of Hopkins above, I feel. 'Legend' is a slightly more difficult term to define, I suppose, but he's without question an all-time great no matter how you measure it.
In particular, your theory that Hopkins wouldn't have stood a chance against the likes of Hearns, Ray Leonard or Hagler seems a little off base, Gordy. Leonard and Hearns were great Welterweights, but great Middleweights they weren't. Would you really make them favourite to beat Hopkins at 160 lb?
Hagler, of course, is a different kettle of fish, but as a Middleweight champion I'd say Hopkins is one of the few who can be mentioned in the same breath. Hagler would be the favourite there, of course, but Hopkins is far too good to be disgraced in that one.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
Id actually make Hopkins small favourite over Hagler. Even at middleweight, Im more inclined to think its Leonard of the three that causes him the most problems with a speed and movement based gameplan.

Surely with the list of opponents Hopkins has beat he is a legend? I certainly think he is.

Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
If anyone can take Leonards advantages away from him its hopkins. I think Hagler beats him and Hearns gives him fits till he fades himself. Leonard also slight favourite
Re: Bhop v dawson if you're still up?
I can't believe I had the fight level, that's the worst scorecard I've ever written and what's worse is that I was sober as a judge when I wrote it. Makes you wonder though, how much of a fight is down to the interpretation of how you expect someone to win.
I honestly didn't think there was a lot in the rounds, but then it was a stinking fight between a dirty fighter and a lazy fighter.
