Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership - Season 1
Hooker needed desperately. Also you've got to pick and choose which games your backup props play in. Lahiff is a great prospect but lacks technique and would be taken to the cleaners against alot of the tightheads in this game. And Ion is average at best.
But starting props are very good and backrow is the best in the game.
King is a decent player but for me you'd be better with a 13 who can break the line and pick lines off Cooper and Bowden. The fact he is second choice at clermont also knocks him down a bit for me.
Back 3 is v.good.
But halfbacks may struggle from Nov-Feb.
So i'd say 13 and 2 are the areas you need to improve the most.

All the TH's are pretty poor, Ion prob just the pick.
Guest & Hogg good players.
Not seen loads of Spratt but other two not great, Shortland decent winger.
Hufanga a good winger, needs a big season. Diggin hardly AP standard

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership - Season 1
Pretty sure Faan is retiring and i'd have Ion ahead of Halavatau.
Guest is the best 8 there. Hogg is decent. Sinclair has had limited game time at Irish, and is on loan at the Stormers for the S15, i think he is an ok squad player.
Spratt is an ok squad player, but nothing special. Noon could be decent for you in the one/two games a season where you get torrential rain. Don't know alot about Shortland.
Diggin is ok. Nothing special. I think the youngsters at Saints will push him out of the matchday 23 next season.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership - Season 1
Pull,
Positives:
Best backrow in the league, Great attacking halfbacks and the midfield would open up any defence. Liking the back 3 and perfect for gettig involved and gettong you over the gain line.
Negatives:
Servay retiring, 2nd row is too lightweight (maybe start Shaw with one of the other 2). Kaino will be very hard to rate with no form from Super 15 and then off to Japan. 9,10,12,13 axis could be caught out defensively (look to get a big 13 in).

pullthestrings wrote:Here we go then, areas for improvement lads?
Disclaimer: Any negatives must have a corresponding positive of equal weight
1. Gethin Jenkins/Max Lahiff
2. William Servat/James Buckland
3. Euan Murray/Paulica Ion - front row starting pretty strong, like almost everyone needs more depth at 3.
4. Tom Palmer/Bryn Evans
5. Nick Kennedy/Simon Shaw - I like this 2nd row
6. Jerome Kaino/Declan Danahar
7. David Pocock/Richard Thorpe
8. Imanol Harinordoquy/Tom Guest - very strong backrow, one of the only ones I don't think mine will edge next season, no changes needed here.
9. Joe Simpson/Darren Allinson
10. Quade Cooper/Brock James - good options at 10, James can play the less "fair weather" game pretty well. Maybe strengthen at 9?
11. Alesana Tuilagi/Paul Diggin
12. Daniel Bowden/Shontayne Hape
13. Regan King/Jamie Noon - centres are a weak point, especially the back up. Nothing wrong with the starters but there are better partnerships out there and they will be targeted.
14. Sailosi Tagicakibau/Marland Yarde
15. Delon Armitage/Tom Homer - strong back 3

Cheers CJ. Agree with you on all the points. Looking to get a new centre in as a priority and then look at 9/TH.

He's taking over coaching role at Toulouse but unsure if retiring....
I've looked but can only find rumours as he's never confirmed, he's just said it would good to call it a day when he wants???

Have you ever though of playing this pull
11.Tuilagi
12.Bowden
13.Armitage
14.Tagi
15.Homer
Physicality of Tagi and Tuilagi make up for the lack of it in the midfield and Bowden should be able to put Armitage on defenders outside shoulder with his wide range of passing.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership - Season 1
Could be an option Driver but I think I could do with a centre anyway to beef up the competition.
I know Clermont often go with Fofana/King but what's Fofana like at 13 outside Bowden?

Fofana leaves a lot of questions in defense so i can see him being exploited a bit more at 13?

I don't rate Fofana that highly. He's a pretty showpony capable of fantastic rugby but frequently is missing for sections of game and I think that consistent excellence wins games, not moments of magic. They just look like they do
