Baker loses the first set 6-3
perhaps today was a step far but boi has he showed tenacity and spirit to come back from the jaws of defeat this week.

Brian has jumped 83 places to be 133. RG may help his ranking quite a bit.

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
Good run by BB...but h ran into a proper clay juggernaut in th final...I fancy Almagro to get to the quarters a bit further north in France.

What a sensational week, huge let down potential for RG though.

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
he has a tough match against malisse who isn't bad on clay but hasn;t had a particularly strong showing in his two past RG's and yet he still won a match each time so unfortunately i hope BB disappoints him further here!
GO BB!

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
So what are Brian Bakers prospects of making it into the top twenty by next year?

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
If he wins the next three slams I think he can get to number one.
Luckily fognini isn't in his side of the draw so his path is clear, for now anyway...

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
My interest in tennis has been waning a little, and I have for some time been looking to transfer my allegiance from Mr Murray to some penniless, up and coming prospect. Maybe Mr Baker is that person.

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
Hoorah for Brian! Next up: Simon, hmm dilemma, I quite like Simon.
Who do you think'll win? Simon might be a step too far, he's a good returner, and mover and not afraid to rally.

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
I predicted Simon would make it to the Quarter-final. But I think I would prefer Baker to win and go further. I wonder whether Baker will qualify directly into the main Wimbledon draw - I don't think so. Maybe he will get a wild-card into Wimbledon, otherwise he will have to go through the qualifiers.

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
He can make Simon work, like Harrison (another American did ).

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
Oh he'll definitely make him work, he hasn't come back from injury after so many years for nothing, and Simon is usually a slow started too. But somehow, I think Simon will pull through.

Or maybe Fed can run around in circles flapping his arms chicken-style on centre court whilst shouting "Bird, bird, bird....bird is the word!".

huh thats odd, i thought that would be big news.
There seems to be an absence of a certain ornithological piece, a headline regarding mass awareness of a certain aviary variety.
Oh have you not heard? it was my understanding that everyone had heard.

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
lol...that original 1963 music video still makes me laugh everytime (even before the Family Guy sketch did). The abstract thought of Federer doing it on Phillipe Chatrier is somewhat amusing too - it would beat Guga's drawn heart into the clay hands down.

fantastic effort from baker to come back after surrendering that 3rd set lead but to come back and win the tiebreak, great stuff!
He's great great touch, finesse and variety for a big man come on BB!

You're not the only one LuSports
I can see why Brian Baker was considered a great talent when he burst on the scene. His years away from the main tour have shown his rustiness, but his comeback shows his class.
If Simon can calm down, then I would give him slight edge as he is serving first in this set.

Re: Brian Baker's great comeback!
This is really sad to hear and this must make him the unluckiest tennis player of all time. I don't want to see the guy retire because of injuries of course and he's a wonderful story of what hard work and willpower can achieve, but maybe it's better for him to walk away from tennis whilst he can still actually walk?
