Nadal vs Davydenko
Well we all know Daydenko beat Nadal last 4 matches in a row, and leads 6-4 over all, but on clay Rafa is 3-0 and Rafa is on form compared to rusty Davydenko.
So how do you think this match gonna pan out?
Can Davy continue his streak and extend it to 5-0? or Rafa will be too hot for him to handle inspite of blue clay flooring?
I some how think Davy gonna cause some upset tomorrow, indeed it could be a day of upsets, Djoko survived a scare against an unknown player, in contrast Fed and Rafa taking on some real threats.
I might sound silly, But I this is my prediction Davy in st.sets 6-4 6-4

In Rafa's homeland ....??
On clay .....??
With all due respect ..... yes it does sound silly. Very silly.

Davydenko's best days, from a professional tennis perspective, in the active tennis player sense, are behind him.

@NS yea Davy's best days are over, but an upset by the underdog is always interesting.

Who else thinks there is an upset possible? [in this side of the draw]

Well Davy is on a 4-0 run against Rafa...Rafa doesn't like playing his type of game so an upset is clearly possible, especially on this surface as it is!

Re: Nadal vs Davydenko
Nadal draws Davydenko when the mini Russian is at his worst form... typical. Not surprised if they allowed Nadal to practise for several days on the court, and refused Davy entry.

Re: Nadal vs Davydenko
Im sure Rafa is well prepared for Davy and albeit the surface isn´t to his liking it is clay.. Davy has admitted he is a difficult person to play on clay and that his game is different.. so I would imagine that Rafa will have him doing a bit of scurrying of his own...
But plainly this surface appears to be for the big hitters, (I have not been lucky enough to see any of the matches not broadcasting it here believe it or not) so I cant make an objective assessment.
But whilst I do not think for one minute Rafa is going to have an easy time of it... Davy wont be the one to cause the upset IMO

Tell you what, I'll draw the line, before this goes too far (which it hasn't yet, just about, imo)
The match is today, so let's stick to discussing that. I insist.

Sorry for not realising how dry you are haddie; I shalt refrain in the future from posting thinly-veiled, light hearted, tripe. I always look forward to Davydenko playing a top 5 player, even when you are expecting a loss you can expect quality tennis from him.

Re: Nadal vs Davydenko
invisible will certainly deserve huge credit if he has called this one right, totally against the general consensus
As mentioned , the bookies see it as a formality with Rafa at a miserly 1/50
And if IC's actual scoreline is proved right ....... then it will surely be candidate for Prediction of The Year

@ Lags and Reco
Rafa thrashed my predictions with a comfortable win like the bookies called.
Its fun to predict an upset and that come true, but the upsets dont always happen and thats why its called an upset.
I thought there will be two upsets today, one didnt go, lemme see how Roanic vs. Fed go.

Very true ic
This is tennis we're talking about, (not UN negotiations !) and it's played for our entertainment after all, so having a bit of fun with predictions is part & parcel of what makes up the scene.
Anyway, I'm actually with you myself wrt Raonic to upset Fed. Would have actually put a punt on it, but was only offered 9/4 which wasn't as tempting as I was hoping for.....

Re: Nadal vs Davydenko
yes Lags, Raonic vs. Fed is very interesting indeed, MR might coz an upset, it looks much more possible than the one I earlier predicted.
Raonic aced out the first set, Fed some how scrapped the 2nd inspite of a beautiful backhand pass by MR on Set point.

Re: Nadal vs Davydenko
Maybe there is something to Haddie's theory that nadal is have a sort of rebirth and is playing better than last year at this time. He looked very impressive against Davydenko who has proven to be a tough matchup for him in the past. Nikolay was off song but I think a lot of that had to do with how well Nadal was playing. I think nadal is still experiencing the monte carlo afterglow.

Re: Nadal vs Davydenko
I wouldn't call it afterglow, more 2010 form/confidence rather than 2011.
His BH and serve is ALOT better this year than last, no two ways about it.

@Socal, can't agree more with you, yup it looks the same for me, Rafa is playing with more confidence, MC came as a boon for him, he neever thought he would lose there and he beat his ace nemesis Djoko in the finals, MC conditions and confidence helped him beat Djoko and that helping him gain even more confidence, Rafa when he gains his confidence is a different animal altogether.

Re: Nadal vs Davydenko
Well lydian, i still think it is early to tell but initial indications are that Nadal is playing well this clay court season. That certainly is something that has to really concern the other top players. But I do believe that confidence or otherwise that come RG Novak will bring his best and that even on a slow clay court his best will be enough to take down Rafa. Certainly, Rafa will be very tough on clay he was very tough at the AO as well. That is why I haven't really bought any of this Nadal is slumping talk. He has performed pretty well in the last 15 months in my book.

Re: Nadal vs Davydenko
We'll see socal, if they meet at RG I'd put Nadal 65:35 to beat Nole.
Let's see how Madrid and Rome fare first.

Im glad I got though to you at last Socal... I said that Nole would be seeing a different Rafa across the net and so far Im being proved right..(not just a leap of faith) more like a belief. ;) The main reason is his confidence is back.
B ut whether the clay is blue or not... its still clay and thats where Nadal belongs
