Michael Owen
I'm not certain about this but I'm sure Owen has come to the end of his contract? If so can any of you guys see him getting another contract extension? I can't.
Another PL club may sign him up but he'd probably command big wages so that could be a no-goer for a player constantly injured. Unless it's a pay as you play deal.
It'll be pretty sad if he just drifts out of the game unnoticed given that he was once one of the most sought after players in Europe. That goal against Argentina seems a whole lifetime ago.
Cheers guys.

Re: Michael Owen
Might be best for him to drop down a level if he doesn't hang it up. Injuries have robbed him of his edge, but hes still a cool head and deadly finisher.

Re: Michael Owen
he could end up as a kevin phillips type player. Still quality and getting key goals for clubs with little cameo's.

I'm sure he stated once that he'd never drop down to Championship level even.

I don't think hes getting a good role at a PL club.

Re: Michael Owen
Not sure where for Owen. If he can prove his fitness then maybe a lower end PL Club could come in for him. I remember when at Newcastle when he gained weight and was superb at holding the ball up and linking play up.
Not sure he wants to be a bench warmer unless that is all he can manage nowadays due to the tally of injuries he has sustained.

I'm pretty sure hes a player thats going to have to make an impact off the bench nowadays. His health isn't there for him to start week in, week out.

Re: Michael Owen
Don't think ed have a choice if he wants to carry on playing. He'd have to go to whoever wants him
He's a strange one though, when he's played he can still score goals, unfortunately due to injuries his appearances have been few and far between

Tbh I think that nowadays his passion is more for horse breeding and racing than it is for football

He said on twitter that he'd always rather sit on the bench for a big club that wins trophies than play every week for a small club.

USA must be the best option for him. If its good enough for Beckham and Henry, it's good enough for him.

Yeah, I would of thought he'll end up in the good ol' U S of A earning decent coin playing at a championship/league one level.

Is there a horse racing scene in the US though?

I think he may favour a move to the New York Red Bulls

Yes and it's of a very poor standard.

Re: Michael Owen
Said hes not going to the Championship.
Says he'd look further abroad if he can't stay in the PL.
(i.e payday in U.S/Dubai)

Re: Michael Owen
Wigan would be a good choice for Owen if Martinez stays , they play decent football and create chances which he would put away

Re: Michael Owen
Wigan could do with a regular goalscorer, whether that is Owen or not is a different matter!
My opinion of him has dropped saying that he'd rather sit on the bench and win things than play at a lower level. To me it says that he has more love for his pay packet and glory than for football as a game. Look at Teddy Sheringham, one of the top strikers in his prime and played for as long as he could and at whatever level he could get game time.

Re: Michael Owen
I think its more his interest in horse racing surpassing his football interest. In America/Dubai he'd also get paid and be able to promote his horses.
I'm not sure he wants to slog it out anymore.

Just proves the type of selfish person he is. And saying he would celebrate scoring a goal against us when playing for Man U was the final nail for me. Even Bellamy refrained from celebrating against us, the scum bag with his plastic Premier League medal.

Re: Michael Owen
You do wonder what might have been had his career not hit a brick wall in 2004 when he thought he was good enough to dislodge either Ronaldo or Raul for a starting place in the Real Madrid team?
He may well of hit 300+ Liverpool goals and smashed the England goals record.
Ah well Michael as long as you are happy.

Re: Michael Owen
To be fair, he actually played really well at Villa. I think his big mistake was moving to Newcastle rather than returning to Liverpool as I am pretty sure I remember Benitez offering him a chance back.

Re: Michael Owen
Yes, his contract does indeed expire in the summer but at the same time SAF seems to still rate the guy and with Berbatov leaving out the door I wouldn't be suprized to see SAF offer him maybe a 6/12 month deal to save buying.
If he doesn't stay at United, I can't really see United fans missing him. In fact I'd like to see him go somewhere like Villa, Lot of younger players and with Heskey bound to leave maybe he could sit on the bench there and give a bit of expierence

Re: Michael Owen
Greed conquers all and regarding a man happy to warm benches, refuses to drop down a level even if it would guarantee game time, I expect he'll go to MLS, China or the Middle East and retire on £100k per week for a couple of years.

Re: Michael Owen
30 goals in 70 games isn't a bad return. The guy was unlucky, got his metatarsal broke at Spurs which wasn't his fault at all. He get's allot of stick but he can't help his injuries.
He went to Real and when people say 'can you believe he thought he could get rid of raul and ronaldo' they are being very harsh. He scored 13 goals in that season, most off the bench which isn't bad at all.
Went to Newcastle and was unlucky with injuries yet still scored a couple of hat tricks.
He was unlucky at United, never rewarded for his goals by Fergie. The one time he started up front with Rooney he got injured, not his fault but that's football. He scored nearly every time he played and developed his game brilliantly in being able to drop deep and hold the ball up.
He'd still be an asset for any side, particularly one of the promote sides or even someone like Norwich, where I believe he would score if he played and could be the difference in keeping a side up or not.
A very good player who get's allot of stick for some strange reasons.

He never fully recovered from his first injury was rushed back
Watched him play in Harry Greggs Testimonial he missed an absolute sitter so Id say he is lacking sharpness right now needs games but his touch is good and he takes up good positions
