Still hasn't sunk in! And in a drunken state I decided to message a few of my German ex-schoolmates. Yeah that was a great idea to be reminded of this morning.

An interesting statistic would be that the team that wins the champions league rarely wins their domestic league that season. At least from memory its a rare double. RDM is a legend ,even more so than he already was. When AVB left there was no way that I, or any Chelsea fan, thought that we would even get past being 3-1 down to napoli let alone go and win the champions league.

Morning people, Well done Chelsea i thought they did ever so well with not having there best team out there.

Unlucky for Spurs though in the Eropa League in stead of the Champ's, always next season boy's.

Do you still get into the ero's if you win the league cup or has that been scrapped now?

no it would not there would 64 champions ! it would be awesome if it was just champions of Europe IMO. but still its fine the way it is.

Yeah you still do Blade, Europa league place for carling and fa cup winners (Birmingham were in the europa league last season)

And bull with your comment does that mean that you think that united shouldn't be in the champions league next season? And if united go on and win it in 12 months time that you'll come out and say that you shouldn't have been in it?

Thought Cole was man of the match myself, he did some important challenges during the night and his penalty was just awesome under so much pressure.

You just new it was going to be Chelsea's night when they hit the post for the penalty.

Bull is right, it should only be champions going into the champions league.

It would also bring back prestige to the Uefa cup, they should bring back cup winners as well.

Bull my point was that if man u do win it next year you won't say that they shouldn't have been in it as they weren't champions the year before.

Cole is the best left back in the world by quite a considerable margin. And I agree that his penalty was incredible. Mind you Luiz's pen was awesome.

Thing is though - nobody wants to see a tournament with just Man City, Juventus, Dortmund and Madrid in. They want United, Milan, Munich and Barca! That's just the way it is, and its what makes it the best tournament around

People in Europe care about the Europa league, Athletico Madrid cared about it, Shakhtar cared about it...

Basically if it was just the champions from each league the Europa league would be the premier competition as it would give us (based on league finishes this year)

United, Arsenal, Spurs, Barcelona, Athletico Madrid, Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Lille, Lyon, PSG, Benfica....

I would love it if the Blades some how got into the Europa league, But can't see that happening in the near future though So to say that its not cared about any more is a little harsh B.

PSG can still win the league tonight.

I hope they don't, montpellier deserve it. My point was that that would make the Europa league a better spectacle than the champions league.

Europa league's best moment was when United got schooled by Bilbao...

It also is the reason, that European football has been ruined.

Unless a billionaire takes over your club, then you can never break into the top group of teams, because once in the champions league the money you make means you have a massive advantage over all over clubs.

Uefa wanting financial fair play is one of the biggest hypocrisy's around.

It is there vision of European football that have brought the finance of European clubs to there knees as they all have to spend spend spend to just keep within 20 points of the champions league teams.

and the teams who keep getting placed in champions league just get more and more, Tv money, prize money, bigger sponsorship.

you get about 750K (i think for a winning 1 match in group stages) yet 2million for winning whole of SPL

or the difference between places in EPL is 800K roughly, so by winning four of your group games, is equivalent of finishing 4 places higher in EPL after a 38 game season.

I do not agree. In the past ten years of the Champions League there have been 8 different winners, one team (Barcelona) have won it three times, one team (AC Milan) have won it twice, all the others have won it once. As well as the fact that nobody has ever retained the Champions League.

This cannot be compared to the La Liga where three teams have won in the past ten years, Valencia twice, Real Madrid four times and Barcelona 5 as well as multiple times retained.

Or the SPL where there have been two winners in the past ten years, Celtic six times, Rangers five times and again multiple times retained.

Since 1995 (porto the 1 exception) all the winner of the champions league have come from England, Germany, Italy, Spain countries with the most amount of entrants.

the number of entrants is greater in the champions league and so the percentage of winners is still only 10% of the entrants being able to win the competition

When Comparing it to SPL and La Liga, i should have been more specific in saying the winner will only ever come from one of these 4 countries 19 out of 20 times. And will continue to do so, it is the way Uefa want it.

I was convinced he was going to sky it, in the end it was a really good penalty.

I thought Ashley Cole's was the best, that actually stuck in the net for a few seconds. Manuel Neuer's wasn't half bad.
