David Price
First topic message reminder :
Ok so Sky are telling us we have a new all conquering heavyweight by the name of David Price. It seems like alot of people are being carried away by the hype so far. I think its quite embarrassing when people mention him in the same breath as Lennox Lewis, who outside of the great Ali was arguably the best heavyweight of all time.
But since then we have had a bunch of imposters well marketed by the media trying to convince us they are the next Lennox Lewis. Audley Harrison? David Haye? Ring any bells? Seems like we have been here before and Im suspicious Price is now simply the new Sky poster boy to try and hide the fact there are simply no good heavyweights around these days. Should we really get carried away? If he wins the world title then I will get excited. But until then I dont see any reason to be mentioning him alongside the likes of Lennox Lewis!

Hadn't realised that, but you are right. Amongst his last 7 opponents are:
Rich Power (12-0-0)
Marcelo Nascimento (13-0-0)
Dereck Chisora (14-0-0)
Neven Pakjic (16-0-0)
Whilst Price has faced a series of human punchbags and Tom Dallas (15-0-0).
And Nascimento, for example, was frankly appalling. Sexton, despite not having an "0", is a much better win.
Tom Dallas had an 0 fat lot of good that was, at this stage i think looking at who hit them rather than who they KOd tells a little more.
Every fight i have seen Fury in involved him being hit and hurt to some degree. now i didnt see any of his first 5 or 10 (when was JMcD I?)
i am yet to see Price hit. I don’t see a disparity in comp faced big enough to justify this.

Hogey at no point did I infer it was me who forgot more about boxing than you knew so take yourself down off the soapbox. I'm one of the less knowledgeable people here by my own admissions, however I don't need a perfect posting history to have the opinion that you're coming across as arrogant and smarmy.
Nice try though.

If you say so mate, in all honesty i think you deciding how great or little my boxing knowledge extends without knowing a thing about me is far more arrogant and don't forget you started digging me out not the other way round. I cant help it if my response to your first unneeded post to me has made you look a bit of a Toby, but i will leave it there because i don't want to bore the rest of the board with a childish argument between 2 blokes who don't even know each other.

Me and Union would have nothing to do if everyone adopted this attitude

Excellent post, couldnt agree more!

For the record everyone Gordy is not Waingro. Waingro was at least a bit more pleasant. Gordy tries to be smug you can tell they are not the same person

Gordy, the only person that I'd question how long have they been watching boxing is you. You are either a wum, or very naive as to how boxing works. Either way it's tedious. Please stop posting these "don't believe the hype" articles- the vast majority of us here can tell the different between hype and potential, and understand that salesmen have sales pitches, so please, give it a rest eh

I think its best if you just ignore him like I have been and debating people with some credibility (that includes you Steffan! Even though you think I should be banned!! ), from reading inbetween the lines on his lastest posts he was made up the his article generated so much interest. Quite sad
You can tell he is a WUM cos no one has even compared him to Lewis but obviously chooses not to read those post.
He has set the stall out now and I for one won't be taking him seriously anymore.

Re: David Price
Whilst I do suspect SOF that I am playing into his hands in reacting I have to say I am getting a little bored of being told that should I choose to rate Price I am just a puppet of the fiendishly clever marketers at Sky. I would never describe myself as an expert on the heavyweight division but having spent 20 years watching the division and at least ten years reading books on pretty much any heavyweight I can from Sullivan onwards I also think it would not be being boastful of me to say I am far from ignorant on the subject.
Now on the back of what I have seen of him and my knowledge of the current state of the division and what it will probably need to have success in that division I quite rate Price, am not saying he will be considered alongside Ali and Louis when the dust settles but in two years is more than likely both brothers will have left the division and I see no reason why a heavy handed, well conditioned guy of 6ft 8 with pretty sound fundamentals cannot make an impact in the division. I may well be wrong, I have been before and will be again, however still does not mean I appreciate being patronised by someone who to be blunt I have forgot more about the heavyweight division than they could ever hope to know.

Re: David Price
A good barometer for me is the fact that my Dad started asking me about him despite being the most casual of fans. Price captures the imagination, we all love a good heavy, especially Joe Public. Maloney knows what he's doing and I make him right, talk the bloke up because he deserves it. at the same time both Price and Maloney seem to know that they're not ready for K2 so let's bring him through at a steady pace.
The future is definitely exciting.

I for one am thankful to Gordy, as he has brought to my attention several fighters I had not heard of before, including Ali, Frazier and Foreman. I suggest that anyone with an interest in boxing should look these guys up, they were actually so good that they didn't need the Sky-hype-train behind them. I look forward to learning more about these forgotten greats.
Thanks Gordy.

Haha I love the responses from some of the "higher ranked" 606 members.
I guess I have to earn the ability to condescend like that though.

Haha well I call out a guy for being smug and arrogant and I get told off, I suppose its the manner of which I conduct myself. Most other people are a little more....diplomatic.

I think the issue is that, and please don't take any offence from this, the majority of people didn't feel that Hodgy (was it Hodgy?) was actually being smug and arrogant, and you were perhaps a little abrupt in suggesting he was.
