Wrestlemania 30
I'll accept that the likelihood of my reading of this quote being correct is slim, but it seems to me that London is being teased as a location for WM 30 - perhaps Wembley stadium, with it's retractable roof stopping weather ruining the show.
So WM in the UK, who'd be getting tickets!?
In June 2012 edition of WWE Magazine, WWE's "Informer" character teases an Olympic tie-in for the location of Wrestlemania 30.
"WM29 is locked in for N.J./N.Y., but plans are underway for the 30th Show of Shows. The location? Let's just say it's a city of 'Olympic' proportions."
So WM in the UK, who'd be getting tickets!?

Olympics have also been in LA.
They could be holding it in Greece by Mt. Olympus to help their stalling economy?

It seems pretty close to the 2012 games to be throwing "Olympic proportions" out there though!
LA is possible, maybe probable

Whilst I would love it to be true I just could not see it happening, the time difference for the States would result in a huge PPV buy rate loss over there.

Re: Wrestlemania 30
US cities that have held the Olympics:
St louis
LA
Atlanta
Lake Placid (Winter)
Squaw Valley, California (winter)
Salt Lake City (Winter)
Canada:
Montreal
Calgary (Winter)
Vancouver (winter)
Mexico City maybe as well for another country.
So yeah doubt Vince would risk London without the UK at least holding a lesser PPV first.

Wembley doesn't have a retractable roof.

Could we see the return of the balcony match as two superstars clash on top of wembely's arch?

There is a retractable roof of sorts isn't there? Although it only covers the seating area not the pitch, or in this case the ring and surrounding seats.

It only moves enough to let sunlight onto the whole pitch during the day. Not enough to shelter ringside seats.MIG wrote:There is a retractable roof of sorts isn't there? Although it only covers the seating area not the pitch, or in this case the ring and surrounding seats.

Yeah my mistake, although MIG is right, there is a 'sort of' retractable roof. Not that it affects the ring anyway, it would be covered by WWE's own canopy.

Re: Wrestlemania 30
You guys might have missed a trick here......
Rio is the location for 2016 Olympics. This would be closer to WM 30 which is in 2014 (Don't know if the main stadium will be built by then).
Logistics, timezone and the ability to generate $$$ in a populas nation means that if I had to bet money I would bet on it being held in South America rather than the UK.
Sorry...............

How big is WWE in Brazil though? Genuine question - I have no idea.
For my own mind I'd say WWE were more likely to hold the first WM abroad in England over anywhere else.

Re: Wrestlemania 30
Not as big as the UK granted, but that is the point. In times where every major company is looking to make money in tough situations, they will look to expand to countries that doesn't yet have the interest.
Announcing that an event as big as WM will be in Rio, will get interest from the millions that live there, regardless if they are wrestling fans or not. The UK will just not produce the numbers.
And at that time, Rio will be more glamourous than London.

I can't see WWE's major ppv and an anniversary one at that being held anywhere other than the U.S

Wrestle Mania will never be in the England
However i really think they should do a ppv of somewhat in England. Extreme Rules or Over The Limit.

I don't think there is any benefit from holding a PPV in England, it will get less viewers because of the time difference and is unlikely to significantly alter the scale of viewing in the UK.

That is twice now today I feel old. First time is when I learnt KB was younger than me.
I do hope Nick looks the PPV up. One of the best non-WM PPV main events......and for the Intercontental title (when it meant something)
Anyway.....you hit the nail on the head Crimey. It would be a logistical nightmare for the WWE.

Re: Wrestlemania 30
I think if they tested a Royal Rumble or one of the other major PPVs over here first, then have a look at Wembley for the year after it would be amazing. I mean, there would be 90,000 for definite. Can't see it not being completely sold out.

Personally I would love it to come to the MS. Ideal spot, incredible city with everything there at the centre around the stadium a sporting fan wants, if anyone has ever been there for a rugby match or a football match even. Retractable roof and could hold 80,000+ with pitch seating plus a retractable roof.
Never gonna happen but we can all dream.

Personally I think Vince will see how much money the World Cup makes in Qatar, then decide to have a Mania over there. That's probably the most likely foreign destination, and a plus side will be no divas matches to waste time for the show.

Re: Wrestlemania 30
Wrestlemania 30 could be in London, Wrestlemania could be a 10pm to 2am show UK time (boxing in the UK has been 3/4am in the past for the US audience)
It would sell out and I know I'd be there!

Re: Wrestlemania 30
They're not going to put Wrestlemania in the UK are they? Come on?
Never mind a massive one like Wrestlemania 30!
Without even acid testing, a regular, rubbish PPV over here first? I don't think basing a decision on 1992 would really pass the due diligence for a boardroom full of executives.
They don't even put on Insurrexion any more
No chance in hell.

Re: Wrestlemania 30
Rio is probably the best guess.
I would've said Atlanta as they were the last US city to hold the olympics as the USA only sorted out the red tape regarding them not hosting last week, so we won't see an Olympics there till at least 2024.
London is faesible, but 2 years after? How would that be an 'Olympic' event?

even though, as mentioned before, WM29 is in New York?. However, it is WWE tradition to hold every 10 WM's in Madison Square Garden, so I think it will be there

Re: Wrestlemania 30
No, unless it is some kind of angle. I have seen conflicting reports whther or not it was legit.
Back to topic, I still think that it would be more likely held in Rio than London. As KB says, it is not feasible to call it an Olympic event 2 years after the games have finished.
But to be honest, I can't see it being outside of the USA anyway.

Aren't we missing the obvious abit here? All the report said was it could be in a city of Olympic proportions. Which points to Montreal in Canada seeing as I'm fairly sure there has been an Olympics in that city.
It hints at a future venue but it could just refer to any of the Olympic locations from over the years.
