First topic message reminder :

Before you all get too excited, there are no prizes, you win, you tap yourself on the back and you get a world ranking or in this case a 606 ranking.

It is very simple, all you do is you predict the score with the home team first and the away team second. The points system work on a points difference calculation.

So you get no bonus points for predicting the winner, you only get points for accuracy.

Example. SA beat england by 26-15. So they win by 11

There are 4 possible predictions:

your winning margin is bigger, (26-0), your result +15
your winning margin is smaller ( 26-20), your result -6
your picked the other team to win (10-26), your result is -25
you predicted a draw (26-26), your result is -11

The winner is the poster who has the lowest points difference by the end of the competition.

If you join the party too late and miss any predictions, you will get a -50 penalty added to your tally.

Your points are cumulative and the decision of this judge is final, if your see any Summer tour matches I have missed please let me know.

Maybe I should have added it, but then it also becomes more work, and I am known to be rather lazy.

Just to check, but it seems there could be a problem with the scoring. For example, if I score as follows:

Match 1: +20
Match 2: -15
Match 3: -15
Match 4: +10

Then they add up to zero and I get the same points as someone who has managed to pick the differences correctly. So the negatives signs shouldn't be there and it should just be: 20, 15, 15, 10 = 60.

Anyway, I'm sure you had that covered already, but my predictions are:

OK, had a think about it, the score will be ranked on correct predictions and points difference then

so you could have 2 guys with the same number of predions correct, but their points diifference will depict the winner

Should work out for you. Obviously you'd need a line for every player playing, and a different sheet for every matched played. The player score column can easily be filled by entering that formula into D3 and then dragging down.

Taking my prediction as an example, B2-C2 would be 9 (using the actual score given in the example in the OP). My B3-C3 would be -5, so 9 minus -5 is 14, my score is 14.

I know that's not the score you predicted, but it's needed for the example. "Your" prediction was South Africa by 20. 9 - 20 is -11, but the =abs() function will return 11. Your score is 11.

Not sure how much work it would be collating all the scores at the end, although I suppose you could copy and paste all the data onto one master sheet, sort by player name and then subtotal at each change in player name.

Sorry, I'm a bit of an excel geek. I do pretty much spend 8 hours a day on the program though!

Excepting the Scotland result my predictions for Week 1 are:

New Zealand v Ireland : 33 - 10

Looking at the SA line up I really think England have a real chance in this one. If they play as they did in the 6 nations they should win if they play as the did at WC they will be stuffed. Their heads seem to be in the right place now.

Bit of national bias paying off this week for the Scots.

Just say the Argentina result - looks like they are improving a lot, their second string beat a mainly first choice Italy.

erm people in late for scotland. most of us picked that wrong(as was expected- but could be in a worse place by actually picking it so wrong.. if you get my point

The people in late for scotland effectively got given a pick of Australia (as losing team) by 50 points - pretty sure no-one actually picked a margin that extreme.

Yes, but remember if you pick only 4 games but you pick all 4 winners correctly you get 4 match points, then the points difference comes into play, now you only picked 2 correct winners, which mean you are behind anyone who picked more than two winner correctly.

Those that didn't pick scotland match got penalised by 50 points and didn't get a win point.
