Gemili to run either the Olympics or the World Junior Championships???
First topic message reminder :
This question may seem a no-brainer for most of us, but his coach is opting the other way around and trying to push him for the World Junior Championships. Having ran a new PB of 10.08s, good enough to get him to the quarters of his home olympics. Seems ridiculous to favour any other event. Probably the only time in his life he'll have a home olympics.

No bolarinwa either, bit of an anti climax. Gemilli should get the 1 automatic spot at the world jnrs anyway in both the 100 and 200...thats if he chooses to go.

Gemili runs a PB of 20.61 running into a -1.1m headwind, whilst not well?!
What would that have been if he'd been well and under more favourable conditions?! 20.30?!
So much more to come

Definatley SJ. Although im quite dissappointed, the 3 athletes i realy wanted to see in there finals were Gemilli, bolarinwa and Clovis Asong...and none of them lined up for there races! Was expecting great times from all 3.

Agree Ifc91 - dissappointed too! But I guess that tells us something about how much they expect to be involved in meetings over the coming weeks and months, and how they're probably trying conserve energy and prevent injury. Some of these guys are good enough to take on the seniors! Says it all when Gemili hits a PB while running into a headwind, and while apparently not well! There are bunch of others who'd PB'd yesterday in the 100m [ men's and women's ].
Olympic year - with a home Olympics - is really having an positive impact it would seem

Going through the Junior trials results, surprised by the number of occasions where U20 marks are better than those for U23's.
In a lot of cases, guess may be the best U23's aiming for the Senior UK trials.

Lower height hurdles. UK record is Jack Meredith, Liverpool H, 13.32 from 2010.

Really? I thought at under 20 they would be using full height.

James Gladman is 3rd fastest in the world so far for the under 20s. Looking good for a medal at the World Juniors.
Also today Katie Byers broke UK under 20 outdoor PV record with 4:36m.

Gemili to run the 200m at Birmingham Aviva, end of the month. If weather ain't atrocious, we'll get to see a very fast time from the young man.
I'll be watching from the stands

Actually, Gemili is also running in the Stockholm Diamond League 100m this evening [ Ogurugu and Laura Weightman to feature as well ].
Woohoo - great that following the Olympics we're not waiting too long for another athletics event

Re: Gemili to run either the Olympics or the World Junior Championships???
Gemili 5th in Stockholm, in 10.22. Sluggish start not helping. He could do with some specific work to develop this part of his race. In the 100m, we all know how vital the start is. Not much time to make up ground lost to a bad start. if Gemili could sort this out, would help to put him in contention earlier and under less pressure to make up ground lost. In London, a slow start cost him a time very close to 10 flat and a place in the final [ he also rose to the set position late, which didn't help! ].
He's continually showed how strong and quick he is. His progress this season has been phenomenal. He's got that Birmingham 200m race in a week Will be a useful test!

Cheers for the updates SJ, was out so missed the entire diamond league meet last night. Will be interesting to see what time he posts, im assuming this will be one of the last races of this season and he will want to sign of in style with a PB. Im thinking maybe a 20.5(weather permitting) or just under that.

His PB of 20.61 was set running into a headwind [ late note: -1.1m headwind ]. If weather permits, he can go under 20.5 - I think he could post something in the 20.30's. But I guess that's why we call it the 'weather' --- cos we don't know weather its going to rain or not.

What a run, would have been a shame for him to end the season with a PB in the 20.6's when we all knew he had a 20.3 in the tank!

My sentiments exactly Ifc91...
And I'm sure his too
He's now the second fastest British Junior ever [ over the 200m ]...
Quick question; and no cheating...any thoughts as to who's the fastest British Junior over the 200m? [ I know - cos I cheated! ]...

great run by Gemili though, can't quite decide yet if he looks a better prospect at the 100 or 200

It is indeed Malcolm...
20.29 and running into -0.2 headwind
Gemili could've gone as fast or faster, but clearly focused specifically on tne 100m and had already peaked at the Olympics, which makes running a PB of 20.38 all the more remarkable [ apparently the fastest time by a Brit for 3 years!]

Shame about Malcolm, but injury severely limited his career. I hope sport science has evolved to reduce the likelihood and severity of injuries of future potential stars such as Gemili and Jodi Williams. I suspect however that it is less the sports science than access to that sports science that is the key issue behind many of the injuries.

I don't think its purely injuries that stunted Malcolm. I recall a BBC programme a while back which was comparing the difference between USA and UK athletes. One thing that stuck in my mind was the US athletes will high tech training facilities complete with computer technology, eating the right foods, protein shakes etc. But there was Malcolm in his bedroom (bunk bed) at his parents house eating a fried bacon sarnie and complaining about the lack of money.

Great bloke, but with proper training he should have done better. Perhaps he should have taken Don Bailey's offer to train in Canada with him.

Yet the yanks still can't run as fast as the Jamaicans who's training sophistication is shocking.
Maybe it's just a case of you have it or you don't.

Is their training sophistication shocking? How come they have consistently produced better runners than GB?

Just remember watching a docu where Johnson went to visit Bolt n he was so shocked at the lack of sophistication and dedication, especially from Bolt. Not something I know anything about, was just based off Johnson's comments and observations.

What was lacking? I saw the docu also and they were all outside doing light training. I wouldn't take Bolt's claim of him being non too serious in training too seriously. He trains like a demon also. He has to. Even knocking off 3 swedish birds at 3am builds up stamina. Trsut me on that

Re: Gemili to run either the Olympics or the World Junior Championships???
Yeh, like I said, it's not something I know a lot about which is why I place weight on the opinions of an expert and he was definitely shocked at the rudimentary facilities and the attitude of Bolt in particular turning up 2-3hrs late.
Remember him playing a slow-mo video of Bolt running and pointing out loads of things he was doing wrong which weren't being tackled in training and that he would love to have him at his lab/camp in the States where everything was so much more advanced and see what he could do with him.
PS: that photo cracked me up, almost highlight of the Olympics, just won gold and I'm celebrating with 3 swedish handball players in my bedroom......what a legend!

Would love to see Gemili run sub 10 and sub 20, that would be a first for a Brit for a start. It probably wont win him any global medals but it would at least mean we had a guy in the mix and running genuine world class, if not world beating, times.
