Jessica Ennis - UK Olympic Trials
Jessica Ennis - UK Olympic Trials
Jessica Ennis to take part in 4 events at the UK Olympic Trials in Birmingham.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18343810
Day 1 [ Saturday 23rd June ]
100m Hurdles
How close will Jess push Tiffany Porter?!
Possibility of a PB for Jess?! [ If conditions are right, it is on ]
Possible position; 2nd place to Tiffany?!
High Jump
Jess is Britain's best female High Jumper at present - in fact, she's been our best since 2006! [ Including the odd indoor jump ].
She needs a high jump in the 1.90's to restore her confidence in the event - she's should be looking for at least 1.91m. Believe it or not - she's only 5ft 5" !!!
Possible position; she has no near rivals...should take title?!
Day 2 [ Sunday 24th June ]
Long Jump
Jess's best - 6.51. She's achieved this 3 times i think. She won't challenge Shara Procter. There's also possibly Lorraine Ugen to consider.
What might she produce at the trials?! Have always felt her flat speed should be taking her out to over 6.65m...
Possible position; 2nd or 3rd?!
200m
Great PB at the recent Gotzis event. 22.88. Places at number 1 in the UK based on legal times. But unlikely to take title, as she goes up against a resurgent Oyepitan. There's also one or two other sprinters yet to be counted in the equation.
But Jess is a hard comeptitor. She has run under 23 secs for 200m on a few occasions. There is a possbility of a PB if weather doesn't wreck the whole weekend!
Jess is an awesome competitor. In order to compete in the Heptathlon at the highest level, she's had to become good enough in a number events to take on the best in the UK in certain of those respective events.
Is she right to have a go at four events at the Trials?!
What does she need to work on?! Which of the event to possibly worry about?! [ For me, possibly Javelin and High Jump - both unpredictable; Long Jump might also be a problem, but think her basic speed will ensure that she does at least ok, if not well ]
Is there a possibility that she might, in the later part of her career [ may be even after the Olympics, if she wins it perhaps?! ], that she may shift to eventually perhaps pick one, may be even two?! If so, what might these be?!
Jessica is the personification of professionalism and single-mindedness. She will do what it takes. If someone is to beat ghe rin London, then they will n eed to post near 7, 100 pts in London - as I think Jess will get close to this [ I could end up with on my face LOL ]
Huge, huge admiration

Re: Jessica Ennis - UK Olympic Trials
Mixed views on Oslo for Jess. She ran 12.83 in the heat - but false start and DQ'd in the final. But she is consistently running well over the hurdles, and her flat speed is looking good. We'll get a great idea of where she is at at the trials - aided by the fact, I guess, she isn't under pressure to fight for a place in London. But nevertehelss, that lack of pressure frees her up to let fly

Re: Jessica Ennis - UK Olympic Trials
Think Jess will have improved her PB's from where they are now [ if and where conditons permit ];
100mh - Low 12.70's [ she might be capable of high 12.60's if conditions are perfect; if she concentrated on the event solely, then who knows?! She has the technique and the flat speed, all of which she would be able to develop further if she concentrated ].
200m - Mid-22.70's
Long Jump - 6.65m
Javelin - 48 - 50m?!
Shot Put - Low 15m
High Jump - current PB of 1.95m is already amazing, given she's only 5ft 5". Cannot see her ever beating that mark - perhaps equalling, but that's about it.
800m - her PB 2:07m for the event is already very, very quick for an heptathlete. Difficult to get much more out of an heptathlete [ especically those carrying the kind of overall muscle mass Jess is, compared to most 800m runners - though there may be some odd exceptions ].
If she wanted to concentrate on certain events, her best are the hurdles and possibly the 200m. But it is interesting how she would be going from world class at the Heptathlon to being not necessarily world class at specific events [ thopugh she would be amongst the best easily within the UK ]. But that may be one of the appeals of the challenge - to see how she may be able to push herself.
An intertesing question would be, if she won in London, what would be her next goal?! The following year's World's?! A crack at heptathlon WR?! Concentrate on specific events?!

Re: Jessica Ennis - UK Olympic Trials
Truely phenominal athlete, especially how she can mix it in the individual events against world class opponents. Stick her in a diamond league meet in the hurdles, 200 or high jump and she wouldnt look out of place! When are the trials btw?

Re: Jessica Ennis - UK Olympic Trials
I heard she will focus on the 100mh. She knows she's a potential finalist in that individual event.
Hope she carries on a bit longer though with the heptathlon as there isn't anyone right now to step into her shoes.
Katarina Johnson-Thompson looks like being that successor and is competing in the Czech republic this weekend. A good sign of progress for her would be a score of over 6200, conditions permitting. (Her current PB is 6007).
Trials are scheduled for 22-24 June at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Yes, on 2 of those days.
BTW KJT had a very good first day in the heptathlon in Czech republic. Would have been even better if the wind had been in her favor. Still with a chance at 6200 and still a good chance of getting the A standard (6150).
