Sam Warburton at 8?
The BBC article http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/18421641
suggests its a possibility, but can anyone explain why this would be a better option than playing him there over Ryan Jones and not have him play at 6?
Wouldnt it be better to have a more experienced 8 playing and having a backrow of:
6. Warburton
7. Tipuric
8. Jones
With Lydiate on the bench to make big tackles late in the game, or is Jones' versatility in the backrow forcing him to the bench.

Good day,
Excuse my language please.
We in France believe Warburton could be 8 better than other players in 8 in Wales.
This tactic we agree is strong. Warburton can be very good 8 in time with right mentality and creativity.

'poach' Morgan ? Please
Leaving Lydiate on the bench would be crazy, he was sything through forwards legs, Sharpe knew he'd been in a fight.
Jones will stay on the bench a rovide 4/5 6/8 cover. He'll come one as an impact player.
Warbs could be a good 8 - powerful and a good ball carrier.

Can I just say this entire account : https://www.606v2.com/u4410 is a farce and it's kind of going back to the old days of 606 with muppets setting up multiple accounts.

Re: Sam Warburton at 8?
8 is the specialst position. Only some special play can convert from flanker to playing at 8. My mind if Warburton does not having the carry game to play from 8 and lack the awareness require to play off back of the scrum.
But maybe you can play attack and defend rotating the 8 like copy the all blacks.

It's not massively specialist these days, most international flankers could easily shift to 8.

Warburton at 8? Why play one of the best 7's in the world at 8? and hes an average ball carrier at best, leave him at 7 to do what he does best.

Re: Sam Warburton at 8?
8 is only specialised if your scrum is serverely under pressure. Those are the times you need a player that can control the ball at the base with a great degree of skill. Similar if you have a massive shove on in the scrum, the 8 losing control and the ball popping out the back is a massive fail when you're rumbling forwards. At international level against Aus you'd get away with not having a specialist number 8 though.
Have to say the suggestion of dropping Lydiate is a terrible one, as an Englishman I've got to say he is one of your best players and seems as important to that Welsh side as Adam Jones and Sam Warburton. The Welsh defence was pretty dodgey last time out, taking away one of your strongest defenders will not help that.

Re: Sam Warburton at 8?
I said elsewhere if we start with Jones, Tips and Warbs then it gives us 3 fetchers in the back-row. Ryan Jones has made a lot of turnovers this year, everything he does he seems to do well. We shouldn't lose much defence with that back-row either.

Re: Sam Warburton at 8?
I wouldn't drop Warbs, he's still a class act and our captain. He's only going to get better as that was his first game in months and I though he did ok. Thing is though, Tips can't be ignored. His form warrants a starting place. As much as I love Ryan Jones and his form has been imperious, he would be a good bench option, come on like he has done and inject some energy into the game.
Start Warbs at 8, Tips at 7 and Lydiate at 6. Warbs and Tips both at the breakdown will be more than a handful for the Aussies and will certainly make us more competitive there, especially after our poor performance in that area Saturday.

Re: Sam Warburton at 8?
If Warbs did switch I'd expect the back row out in Melbourne would consist of himself, Lydiate and Tipuric, with Ryan and/or Shingler on the bench.
6 months ago I would have been totally against Warbs playing anywhere but on the openside. But with Tips' emergence (praying he's not a one-season wonder) and the continued debate about whether roles are restricted to certain positions I'm open to it, though not without some hesitation.
This doesn't mean Warbs' days as an openside are over, if anything it just goes to show how much weaker we are at 8 than 6 and 7. Hopefully this will change over the next season or two and provided Warbs isn't as effective at the back of the scrum this switch will be as temporary as possible. Remember it's still very early days for most of our back row choices.

Shinger wont be on the bench
Ryan has a 100% chance of making the 22 unless struck by lightning, and even then he would be insisting he could play anyway.

Re: Sam Warburton at 8?
A pretty stupid idea in the short term before a major test, this is the sort of trial that can be carried out in the AI's. Toby plays 8 and he does not handle going backwards in the scrum very well, what would a novice be like. I remember Daf Jones being switched from 6 to 8 in a Wales match and he gave away a try as the ball fly out of the scrum. Not a great idea for Sat by the WM reporter.
Tips should start or be on the bench he is far shaper than Warburton at this time simply because of his game time.

I say give it a try!
Warburton is like Colin Charvis and Martyn Williams is like Tipuric, there is no reason they could not work well together. The problem might be lack of a big ball carrier in the back row. But if were getting mullered at the break down anyway like last week then a ball carrier is pointless anyway.

There is quite a lot more to playing 8 than simply locking the scrum.
