Which is your favourite city to go to for away 6 Nations matches?
Favourite 6 Nations City?
Which city, all things considered, is your favourite city to travel for your nations away fixture?

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
I have been to all, but I am slightly biased I suppose...
Paris was a strange experience, but a very memorable one. It was more about the Welsh following than anything else, great weekend but not a fan of the city!
Dublin I visit way too much and it's almost like a home from home, but Wales is followed immensely well and is always a good 6N weekend away.
Rome I love but have not been to a 6N game there.
Edinburgh again a great city, great night out but huge Welsh following and basically everyone in the city was in red so was very Cardiff esque. Plus that walk to Murray!!!!
London can be a great night out but Twickers is poor, not much around and too much time spent travelling.
My favourite city is Rome, by far, but my favourite 6N city has to be Cardiff (obviously) If someone was going to give me a free weekend for an away game in the next few years it would definately be Rome to check it out on a 6N day!

Cardiff - Pros: Usually has a great atmosphere in the Millenium.
Cons: City is not all that nice
Rome - Pros: Brilliant City with lots to do.
Cons: Match itself is not a big attraction usually
Edinburgh - Pros: Nice city that offers a good night out
Cons: Atmosphere and location of stadium
Paris - Pros: Brilliant city with lots to do
Cons: Home fans lacking and city is expensive
Dublin - Pros: Welcoming home fans
Cons: Expensive city and too much drinking

Nice enough to be voted 6th best summer destination in the world by National Geographic but whatever..
For me it's Cardiff any day! The atmosphere through out the whole city is second to none on a match day, love walking through Wood Street/ Westgate Street as the fans flood in!

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
Never been away for a 6N match but I've visited all of the above except Dublin which I am visiting in October for a marathon. In order of preference of those I've been to (I'd like to add I like all of those cities except Paris but given that I've only been to Paris on a boozy tour or very briefly where seeing the city was not a priority, this may be unfair on the city)-
1) London. I love my city
2) Edinburgh. Beautiful city, visit the fringe every year (except last year) and am generally a fan of Scotland
3) Rome. A mix of squalor and splendour but full of character and great food and rip-off priced alcohol (and gypsies). Great memories of there plus I love Ancient Rome which is a plus
4) Cardiff. Very nice city and the MS is a great stadium. Not spent enough time there to know for sure what it's like. Friendly people, goo nightclubs
5) Paris. Probably unfair on Paris but some of the Parisians were just too snooty, and it was too expensive. Coming from a Londoner
?Dublin, will see in 5 months

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
For an away match it's got to be Rome. Best city, best food, best weather, best general value for money, the best chance of getting the other half to agree by taking her along (if the scheduling is right you can even try and pass it off as a Valentine trip in the city of the saint's origin), and if not it's got the best eye candy.

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
You should probably specify away city in the topic title, I'm not sure some posters are bothering to read the poll question and are voting for their home city.

Must be less English and more Italians on here than I thought!

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
Rome has to win hands down for me, what a great city. It was freezing in the snow this year but there is so much to see there, combined with nice food, its hard to beat.
Mind you, with a decent group of you, any away game can be good fun!

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
Only been to Cardiff for a 6N game, last year vs Ireland.
Love it there.
One of the main pros is that the MS is just a short walk from the bars.
Been to Twickers for club games, as said above not much around.
Been Edinburgh, great city. Hope to go there next year for Ireland game.

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
I have been to every six nations city over the years, and I know it might sound biased, but for me you cannot beat Cardiff, the whole city is buzzing in international day, people are singing in the pubs, the city centre is closed to any traffic except the police and team coaches, as soon as you get off the train or bus you are surrounded by a carnival atmosphere, there are pubs and restaurants in walking distance, I just love Cardiff on international day, just do not take me there shopping. Also, I always have a soft spot for Edinburgh, it was my first away trip back in the nineties and I have always looked forward to it, I used to like Dublin before the Euro came in France was much of a muchness and now is way to expensive with the Euro, seven quid for a pint FFS, England is a little bit of a conundrum for me as you would not know there was a game on, I don't like Twickers, but I love Richmond, if I stay the weekend that's where I stay but for the most these days I just get the last train/bus back to Cardiff where I will have a lift home. Rome is all to much about the football and if it were not for the travelling fans there would be no atmosphere what so ever, although I would like to go to the new stadium which they are using.

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
Voted for Edinburgh though I think I am one of the few Welsh who actually like going to Twickenham.
Done the old Parc de Princes not done new yet.
Not done Rome but hoping to next year so any advice on where to stay etc greatly accepted.

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
I've never seen rugby there, but as a city Rome wins hands down.
I have to say I'm a little surprised at how many votes Cardiff has got compared to Dublin & Edinburgh. I lasted visited it about 18 months ago and it's a decent enough place for the rugby, but I don't feel it matches up as a city in general. Most of the comments for it here seem to be from the home supporters, did any travelling fans vote for it?

It take me longer to getting to Twickenham and back to home than to get to Rome

Re: Favourite 6 Nations City?
You're missing a trick AWOP, enjoy the journey, don't go direct to Twickenham, start early with a quick tube ride down to Putney then it's a straight line pub crawl to the stadium.
Only a fool (or 2 as it happens so far) would vote for London here though, it's a great city, but Twickenham isn't sufficiently close to the central hubbub and it isn't rugby minded enough to be on par with the other cities.
