Who Will Win?
Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
First topic message reminder :
Predict the score of the game. We all know how close the Irish came last week, can they deliver a result to stamp themselves into the history books. Could New Zealand kick it up a gear and get there hat trick. Discuss.

LeinsterFan4life, only been living here properly a month, but its pretty unknown, had to explain what the haka was to a couple of guys yesterday (or "that dance thing" as one fo them put it). Americans tend to think rugby players are pretty crazy though. I was playing for Milwall in London the last few years, but am going to try and play for a team here starting September. Could be utter dross, but at least some like minded rugby obsessives to go for a pint with

Sounds good...id say that the problem with rugby in america is that there isnt enough time for advertising during the gamewolfball wrote:LeinsterFan4life, only been living here properly a month, but its pretty unknown, had to explain what the haka was to a couple of guys yesterday (or "that dance thing" as one fo them put it). Can't wait until tomorrow...hopefully more of the same with a different result!
A good few of our U 20's are bigger than our seniors too.At least 4 of the forwards who started against the Baby Boks were bigger than the guy in the same position v NZ.Rugby players are becoming massive.
So Ireland were the only team to beat the Baby Boks, that means we're world champions doesn't it

Re: Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
Personally I can't wait to see which Rodders will turn up tomorrow morning. Will the Irish players be Guinness swilling surrender monkeys, a reflection of a southern Irish government that signed away their independence to the Germans...Oh how Dev and Michael Collins would turn in their grave! Or will they instead be the inheritors of the spirit of Irishmen in Easter 1916, with the Ulstermen descended from those signed their names in blood in the 1912 Ulster Covenant? Will this be the greatest moment for ireland since St. Patrick came in and said, 'Oi! Snakes! Bugger off'. Can't wait for the match and Rodders reactions.

There's no mystery chaps.. my reactions as always are in the hands of the players... except maybe ROG of course who'll probably get a slaggin regardless of he plays....

Last kick of the game will be ROG's conversion for our 4th try, after McFadden scores a hatrick, and a 80 metre sprint finished by Ross.. 31-20 to Ireland...

Sounds good to me Wolfball
We need to do what we did last week, keep it a one score game and keep relentless pressure on the ABs in attack and defence. Last week showed they are not infallible and much more comfortable hitting teams on the counter than having to force the pace themselves.
If they do open up a 2 score lead we're feiced but score early and keep the pressure on then we can push them all the way.

I have heard it mentioned on here before that Ireland needs to have faith and believe, but can the person that voted for Ireland by 15 + elaborate on what is the basis of this opinion?

Re: Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
Surprisingly that wasn't me laurie....
I actually didn't vote. In my own head I wouldn't see Ireland winning by more than 1 score and that would be if everything goes right for us.
I could just as easily see the ABs winning by 40+ points.
But I don't really see the point in predicting a score (unless its on Biltongs comp ).... as long as we produce a performance at least on par with last week, and can maybe close out the 80min with more points on the board I'll be a happy camper .

Probably because they can Laurie but you could look at it this way...
Last week most picked a 20+ point win the tab at 31.
So up to a 25-30 point swing happened last week. 15 is only just over half last weeks swing so theoretically a 15 point win to Ireland would be 'less' surprising than last weeks result.
Like I said...you could look at it that way...

Re: Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
IF the team picked by the AllBlacks is any indication they are going back to basics. They won`t try running it from every where they will kick for position then attack. It`s pointles wringing there hands and saying we`ve lost Kaino and Thorn. There history move on with such a small squad it is a matter of being between the rock and the hard place. The team is picked and they know what they have to do.Frankly on the strength of one match, comments like The Wallabies will am bush us,and the Boks will beast us gets on my nerves.
NONE of the SH sides have put on a complete performance, having got a lead and letting othersides come back at them.[other than first Ireland game]
When they lose or get pushed the ABs close ranks and do basics first and build from there.Thomson has had his nose broken twice in two games which is why he is on the bench.NO Player has been given anytime to become Kaino`s replacement.Up until a year or so ago Read was the starting 6,Thomson can easily cover 6,7,8 adequtely. With players expected back fit by August the ABs will be there or there abouts. Kahui,Cory Jane,Nonu to name 3 Hoerta if they play him at 6 could be the answer. There are 3 or 4 Locks with experience who could fill Thorns shoes. Even Ali if they get him fit and playing ITM he was a great Lock pre achilles problems arguably number1 in 2008.

Re: Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
What makes you think they wont attack with this team Alan. With 2 specialist 7's and a 10 who only knows attack and a rather large drop in the average of this side with all the newbies/ youth I think its more obvious that they'll go all out attack. Up the tempo so Ireland won't be able to stay with them. Crudens not a kick for position player and neither is SBW so how does that work? This is I'm guessing a much lighter and more mobile side than we've had for ages. Particularly in the forwards.

Re: Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
Going by what Hansen was saying during the week, that last week they tried to play to much rugby. When the kick chase may have been a better option instead of trying to counter attack from deep. The wings are the established formula 2 full backs plus a specialist wing.No Nonu to blast it up the middle and the bench is decidely light weight.Never been convinced by Messam and will be surprised if Cane plays the full 80.Depends which Irish team shows up. 3 Locks with 30 caps between them does`nt inspire confidence but it`s a case of last man standing.Hope Aron Smith plays the full 80 whats the weather like?

Biltong obviously you did`nt watch much 1960`s AB Rugby pure grind em down and let DB do the business.Pretty it was`nt that was why the Boks loved DB in 1960.

Re: Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
Being a realist - I'm wishing for an Irish win (anything can happen in a rugby game and that's a realistic wish)
Being a realist, I'll settle for another bone crunchingly competitive effort that goes right to the edge of the 80 minutes
Being a realist, I think the All Blacks will get their third win.
But to repeat, if Ireland can push them hard and sustain that real pressure right through the second half, then we can head home with something in the cabinet to work on and hone, because we certainly didn't get on the plane with much hope.

Re: Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
Messam has gone well for the Chiefs Alan so thats all we have to go on. Ive been impressed by his workrate but your are correct. hes yet to step up. Same with the locks, agree there.
But these selctions are about potential. The new guys have come through a system and some are in for injury. For this test we have to back our system, our youth, and sometimes potential can blow away any experience on the day.
We may lose but I can guarantee that the start of this game for our side will include one or more of the young guys...because it has too..theres so blimmin many of them for them all to fail!
Anyway Irish people and especially to Billy- hope you guys are up for it. All the best and good luck Ireland!
