Who Will Win?
Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
First topic message reminder :
Predict the score of the game. We all know how close the Irish came last week, can they deliver a result to stamp themselves into the history books. Could New Zealand kick it up a gear and get there hat trick. Discuss.

Re: Ireland vs New Zealand, 3rd Test: Teams & Build Up
Well...only thing that can come out of this game is a restoration of a certain level of pride in closing that gapping gap!
Not sure it's doable, too many players underperforming against a side that is 'over'performing. A lot of pressure is due to the ABs being the ABs but a good bit of it is due to rushed nervy play from some players who have little excuse for pretending to be new to this professional rugby game.
Ireland aren't showing anything like the ability to impact at a physical level to upset the traction of the ABs. You have to be physically able to play two intense games one week after another - the Irish are proving that yet again, that's a big 'no' in their set-up. Preserving energy for the one or two 'big' games a year is just not nearly good enough at this level - either in New Zealand or indeed in Europe.

The ABs are just being typical of them - they have one close game last week, and come back this week with a point to prove. They're being very clinical and when they're like this, any team can find it hard. I just hope Ireland can still find it in them to get some scores second half.

Surely if he catches it, there is no knock on and thus perfectly legal?

You have to applaued the skill of the All Blacks some beautiful off loads,
Ireland just look so predictable this loop pass by Sexton which he does all the time even for Leinster is a waste of time, its almost something you see in under 12's rugby, you can see it coming a mile off.
The lack of bulk in the backs i telling aswell, no penetration

I'm genuinely gutted for Ireland that they appear unable once again to back up a supreme effort with another similar performance. If Irish tactics worked last week, why have they changed this week?

He has Notch. I feel for the midfield too. How Kidney expected Wallace to be up to speed and the midfield to function with so little preperation time I just don't know. SBW has had a field day after we kept him quiet in the first 2 tests.
I think this is the end of Paddy at this level and its a horrible way for such a great servant to go out.

Thats exact it SecretFly, intensity can't be a tactic, it has to be the default mode. Its like the first game, men against boys when we said to ourselves, we will never get the their level. A week later we do. How is that? Inconsistancy is nearly bred into these players, by a coaching staff with a foot still in the amateur era.

Well to slap the ball in the air it had to be up!!
Made a hard job impossible for Ireland now, funny how he never saw any forward momentum in the passing?

Box kicks were so good last week. This week we're back to aimless kicking with no chase.

If that is the case, what is to stop someone from running foward with the ball and lobbing the ball over the tackler and catching the ball behind him? The tackler cant tackle the player as he does not have the ball, and the attacker has not knocked on?

Yes if he caught it, it won't be illegal, but to catch a ball you smacked with your hand it needs to bounce up, and for that your palm faces up.Red_Dragon_Spirit wrote:biltongbek wrote:Depends whether his palm faced up or down.Swperb wrote:I find this rule a strange one. This may sound like sour grapes - but it hoinestly isn't meant to. NZ are in a different league to us in this game but...
McCaw is penalised for hands in the ruck within the 5m line - pen to Ireland.
Kearney is penalised for a deliberate knock-on 15m from the line - pen to NZ; YC to Kearney
?????

Cian Healy has been the standout here for Ireland,I rate him as one of the top loose head props in world rugby

Please Hansen don't ring the changes. Keep Smith on especially. You don't have to put Weepu on every match.

Because that is a standard forward pass, as opposed to an attempted interception to win back possession?

Yeah...bye bye Kidney.
Even if it isn't all him at this point, as some will say - the air needs to change now around this team. New thoughts on the problem to bring about an overall change in mood (a problem that is even gaping in Europe. I mean no excuses that this is ABs - this is Ireland, the familiar one that plays in Europe too)
Time for coaching change - at this stage it's a "Why not?" issue. Certainly nothing to lose now.
