Etiquette Question from New Golfer
I've been a golf fan for many years but have only just got out on the golf course to play. I'm always worried that my shocking play (I'm usually 4 or 5 over per hole) will annoy other people at the course.
Do you guys get annoyed when you see a beginner having a hack? And also are there any major do's and don'ts that i should bare in mind when out on the course?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Etiquette Question from New Golfer
Everyone has to start somewhere. As far as etiquette goes, repair divots, pitchmarks, rake bunkers and call other games through if you've lost a hole on the game in front and are holding those behind up. Simples .

Don't do what I did last weekend and snap three clubs in anger

Yup, no swearing, not shouting, just a simple snap over the knee.

Snapping clubs isn't big or clever and it certainly isn't funny.

I think it was Fred Daly years ago that was having a bit of a bad day and had a habit of club snapping. Late on in the round he was left with a shot of about 120 to the green. He asked his caddy what he should take. The caddy said 2 iron. Daly was incredulous until his caddy explained it was the only one he had left!!

As long as you let people through you'll be fine.

So did not wearing a glove help or hinder the club snapping

Super
I am surprised your playing partners did not ask you to leave the group and walk in after that. Nothing worse than playing with an overly angry golfer.

Re: Etiquette Question from New Golfer
Why, all I did was snap a club over my knee. I was perfectly composed and communicative other than that. Better than ramming it back in my bag, kicking something, hitting the ground, swiping at tee box, swearing, spitting, or walking off in a strop.
It's only you that people don't want to play with or go for a drink.

Re: Etiquette Question from New Golfer
Super that will be about £100 worth of shafts at least. What were you thinking?
Are you struggling with the move up north? It seems you are more troubled than normal of late, with the ferocity of the hate in our comments reflecting this. I hate to see a fellow poster struggle mentally and suffer in the way you are, so if you need someone to open up to feel free to drop me a PM.

Re: Etiquette Question from New Golfer
I'm bored of the clubs anyway, besides I think my swing has changed a bit and I require a 5.5 instead of a 6.0 shaft.
WIll buy a whole new set of shafts, grips, ferrules etc and get them made up. Probalby in the region of £250
You hit a great point there, not enjoying up north at all, and my mood is probably reflecting this, so apologies if anything has been too near the bone.
I can't be too down about it. I've not got much to complain about really, other than living somewhere I don't want to be. Many more people a lot worse off than that.

Re: Etiquette Question from New Golfer
Calling through other golfers behind you is the key.
Everyone is poor when they start and I would hate to think golfers don't want to play as they fear they will annoy people.
I have no problem with new players learning on a course. It's a lot better to go out and just play the game than just hitting the range all the time.
As long as you make sure you aren't holding up the course then good luck to you.
Been playing golf for over 20 years and still nowhere near mastering the game but I think that's the main cause of addiction as most golfers will strive and always fail for perfection as it doesn't exisit in golf!

Re: Etiquette Question from New Golfer
Maybe just choose a quiet time to go playing like a sunday evening. Then you can play away without having to worry about other people. Etiquette is probably best learned by playing with a regular golfer if you know one.
Super it's a shame you felt the need to break your shafts, something Tiger has never done. How does your new course compare to the old one?

Incontinent, I've got 8 courses with my current club memberships, so won't be joining one up here as they are only an hour or so away.
Hoping to play Trumps new one soon though.
Difference between me and Woods is that I break my own shafts, Woods gets his wife to do it: Over his head!

Trumps course looks truly amazing.
The £200 weekend green fee may be a stumbling block for most though!

2-4-6-8 playing golf late.. supers mad at his clubs but it aint their fault. 3-5-7-9 seem to be fine.. until their shafts are also bent out of line!

Ouch! Harsh, but true.
Mind you when Paul Jones or Mike d'Abo were allowed to sing blues, they were way better.
