You are the coach! Try this game!
Who would/wouldnt be part of your plans if you were Warren Gatland?
We all have our own opinions about trying new players, what the game plan should be and what our best combinations or team is.
So here you go.....you are Warren Gatland. You must strike a balance between Winning & Losing, seedings for world cups, managing expectations, trying new combinations and selecting teams that can do the job. You have an autumn international series that looks like this:
Saturday 10 November:
Wales v Argentina (Millennium Stadium, Cardiff; 14:30 GMT)
Friday 16 November:
Wales v Samoa (Millennium Stadium, Cardiff; 19:30 GMT)
Saturday 24 November:
Wales v New Zealand (Millennium Stadium, Cardiff; 17:15 GMT)
Saturday 1 December:
Wales v Australia (Millennium Stadium, Cardiff; 14:30 BST)
You have picked a squad that looks like this:
FORWARDS: Luke Charteris (Newport Gwent Dragons), Ian Evans (Ospreys), Bradley Davies (Cardiff Blues), Toby Faletau (Newport Gwent Dragons), Rhys Gill (Saracens), Richard Hibbard (Ospreys), Paul James (Ospreys), Gethin Jenkins (Cardiff Blues), Adam Jones (Ospreys), Alun Wyn Jones (Ospreys), Rhodri Jones (Scarlets), Ryan Jones (Ospreys), Dan Lydiate (Newport Gwent Dragons), Ken Owens (Scarlets), Matthew Rees (Scarlets), Aaron Shingler (Scarlets), Justin Tipuric (Ospreys), Josh Turnbull (Scarlets), Sam Warburton (Cardiff Blues), Craig Mitchel (Exeter), Huw Bennett (Lyon), Ryan Bevington (Ospreys)
BACKS: Ashley Beck (Ospreys), Andrew Bishop (Ospreys), Aled Brew (Biarritz), Alex Cuthbert (Cardiff Blues), Jonathan Davies (Scarlets), Leigh Halfpenny (Cardiff Blues), James Hook (Ospreys), George North (Scarlets), Mike Phillips (Bayonne), Rhys Priestland (Scarlets), Harry Robinson (Cardiff Blues), Rhys Webb (Ospreys), Lloyd Williams (Cardiff Blues), Scott Williams (Scarlets), Liam Williams (Scarlets), Dan Biggar (Ospreys).
The good thing here is all your players are fit and raring to go.
You have to pick four squads taking into account the above at the start of the article. You have to pick a squad and choose a relatively simple gameplan that can be implemented by this team. Lets just start with the Argentina game first. Your gameplan is limited to 5 key points: Simple.Team Vs Argentina:
1) Gill
2) Matthew Rees
3) Paul James
4) Bradley Davies
5) Alyn Wyn Jones
6) Lydiate
7) Tupuric
8) R. Jones (Captain)
9) Phillips
10) Hook
11) North
12) Roberts
13) S. Williams
14) Cuthbert
15) Halfpenny
16) K Owens, 17) Adam Jones, 18) Charteris, 19) Faletau, 20) Webb, 21) Priestland 22) Robinson
Game plan:
1) Kick chase- play this type of game for the first 40 mins with. Second half- play a more expansive running game.
2) Maul- First 40 is about wearing them down as with the kick chase. Maul at lineouts in own half. Off the top ball anywhere within 40 meters from try line.
3) Keep the ball in play- do not hit touchlines with kicks.
4) Use Jamie Roberts, Cuthbert and North to hit up the middle. Forwards to work around the corner to provide width. Come back the other way and aim to get scores in the corners.
5) Subs- Webb to replace Phillips after 50 mins, Faletau (who operates in attack in the wide channels and drops back for kicks to run back) to replace Jones (after 50 mins), robinson to replace cuthbert or north after 60 mins, priestland replaces roberts at 60 (hook moves to 13). Owens, charteris and Jones (replace gill) on James to Loose Head around 60 also.
It may be a similar gameplan to what Wales are using now if not exactly the same. Key here is the selection.
A very very boring saturday! Waiting for murray to hit wimbledon!

Gatland probably won't be Wales coach unfortunately.

Re: You are the coach! Try this game!
I would give Mitchell a game and possibly play him more than Adam during the AIs, we really need another specialist T/Head to step up and challenge A Jones.
I am not a fan of using James there or trying to convert young Jones.
