Re: Fantasy European League™ Season 2 - Round 5
Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd
Ribéry
New signing Ribery clinched a vital win for Tottenham over Manchester United who, in truth, didn't really turn up. The Frenchman took all the plaudits but it was Spurs' new signing, Miguel Veloso, who was the most important player today for the hosts, as he and Modric dictated the play wonderfully and prevented de Jong and particularly Scholes getting involved in the game. This led to Benzema and Welbeck receiving little ball up front and they created few chances.
=====
Arsenal 2-0 Inter Milan
Mata, Villa
Arsenal's Spanish contingent delivered the goods again today as Inter Milan struggled to keep pace with them. The visitors are not a bad side but they had no answers to Juan Mata, who created almost every chance for his side as well as getting on the scoresheet himself with a lovely chipped finish. He may not start for his country, but he proved his worth today and it was his delightful through ball to Villa, who rounded the keeper to score, which secured the win for Arsenal.
=====
Real Madrid 2-0 Man City
Fabregas, Aguero
This City side look painfully average going forward without Messi and Real Madrid were just too good for them, despite the visitors trying to suffocate the game. The central midfield City have is still wonderfully talented, and they were the sole reason the hosts could not break the deadlock before the hour mark, showing great awareness and intricacy in their passing. Eventually, Madrid began to press them and they got their rewards, Fabregas nicking the ball from Khedira before smashing home. City now had to push forward to find an equaliser, but Dempsey was careless in front of goal. This created more room for Madrid to manoeuvre, and they quickly doubled their lead after Aguero deceived Hart.
=====
Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Chelsea
Kagawa
Marin, Gomez
Dortmund actually caused problems for Chelsea's defence today but Kagawa's early strike was not enough for them to grab a shock victory today in Germany. Chelsea are undoubtedly the stronger side and, despite Kagawa skinning Cahill to stun them early on, they soon regained their composure and began to dominate proceedings. The visitors pressed repeatedly and eventually wore down their opponents, Marin scoring the first after Piszeck's error before a Gomez volley won the game late on.

Re: Fantasy European League™ Season 2 - Round 5
Tottenham 2 - 1 Man Utd
Ribery ------------ Wellbeck
VDV
Tottenham started off with a very attacking line-up and it paid off as they created many chances through VDV and he also helped himself to one too. Ribery with a curler wilst VDV was put through by Rooney. 2nd half, Utd upped their temp and gave Spurs something to think about when Wellbeck smashed home a great volley. Tottenham remained strong though and could have had a 3rd but Rooney shot wide.
---
Bayern Munich 1 - 2 Barcelona
Higuain ---------------- Ronaldo, Iniesta
The difference between these two sides was that Barca were more ruthless at the final 3rd whilst Bayern missed some great chances particularly Robben. Both teams played in the right spirit and Higuain scored which was a good thing for Barcelona as they started to quicken their tempo. Ronaldo with a tremendous finish and in the last few minutes, Xavi found Iniesta and he made Lucio look like a fool before slotting home the winner. Genius midfield duo did it again.
---
Real Madrid 2 - 0 Man City
Bale
Tevez
City expected Madrid to attack frequently and set up to counter the attacking threat with a strong midfield. Initially Madrid found it hard to find space but as the game went on, Yaya and Neymar found more space and were devastating at times. Yaya slipped in Bale and he thumped home the first. City had to change their shape which gave more space to Madrid and when Tevez came on Aguero found him and curled home to close the game. Madrid look very strong front start to finish and bench is amazing.
---
Borussia Dortmund 1 - 1 Chelsea
Kagawa ---------------------- Menez
Not the most entertaining but both teams did exactly what their respective managers asked them to do. Both goals were outstanding particularly Menez's long drive which swerved viciously. Dortmund dominated early on but Chelsea overtook them second half. A draw was the fairest result.

Re: Fantasy European League™ Season 2 - Round 5
Tottenham 1 - 0 Man Utd
Ribery
Lots of old legs on show today to please the nostalgic fans in the crowd. Utd were solid defensively but struggled to get anything going up front. Spurs were the better side going forward but found Utd's defence in resolute mood. Still, a Ribery drive finally broke through and ultimately proved the difference.
Arsenal 1 - 1 Inter Milan
Mata --------- Vermaelen
Non compromising stuff from Inter as they looked to defend the early leave given them by Vermaelen. Arsenal hammered away but could not break through until mid way through the second half when Mata was on hand to sweep home. The lack of subs hindered Arsenal though and they had to settle for a point.
Real Madrid 2 - 0 Man City
Aguero
Neymar
An injury hit City battled hard but Real's quality and pressure told in the end. Simple as that.
Borussia Dortmund 1 - 1 Chelsea
Lewandowski ------ Gomez
Exciting. battle in Dortmund as Chelsea's Germanic troops went back to their homeland. Gomez gave the visitors the lead before Lewandowski equalised for Dortmund. Level at half time. Both sides pushed for a winner but both keepers were in fine form and the match ended all square.

Re: Fantasy European League™ Season 2 - Round 5
spurs 1-0 manutd
ribery
spurs' midfield and attack both look very strong now and they also managed to keepa clean sheet in this fixture. ribery beat srna for his pace on one instance and his shot couldnt be saved by the united goalie.
bayern 1-1 barca
silva
rvp
bayern somehow held onto a draw against barcelona. barca took the lead thru van persie in the first half and bayern saw nothing of the ball after that. after the break, puyol's mistake allowed silva to calmly slot the ball past cech after he was exposed.
real 1-0 mancity
bale
city got stuck in in the midfield but with their lack of attacking htreat all game, real had plenty of the ball and had city pegged back in their own half for the majority of the match. it was bale's shot from inside the box which proved to be the match-winner. city also did not have anyone on the bench to come on and change the game.
dortmund 1-1 chelsea
hazard
ozil
a close game with little chances. both teams took one apiece to finish the match one all. it was the away side which opened the scoring as chelsea's german contingent which combined with ozil and gomez playing a one-two which gave ozil a yard of space to take his shot. dortmund responded and scored through hazard.

Re: Fantasy European League™ Season 2 - Round 5
Spurs 1 - United 2
Modric - Walcott x2
The pace of Walcott against Clichy was too much for Spurs today as United just pipped them in a close game. Both midfields and attacks are great but Uniteds defence is much better imo. A great game between two closely matched sides.
Bayern 2 - Barce 0
Ramires, Silva
Bayern managed a smash and grab job in a result some would call an upset. Although the game was close throughout the energy of Ramires constantly kept Bayern in the game and some great saves from both keepers kept it 0-0 til late on. However the aging Barce center backs had no answer to a surging run from Ramires and a moment of magic from Silva as Bayern took all the points.
Arsenal 2 - Inter 2
Mata x2 - Shaqiri, Drogba
There will be goals that much is certain. Mata was at his masterful best scoring two early goals giving Arsenal what at the time seamed a comfortably lead. But Shaqiri was all over Santos throughout and scored one after beating his man with ease before turning provider with a cross that the Drog hammered into the net. A draw is a fair result here.
Real 2 - City 1
Yaya, Aguero - Dempsey
A game that City probably thought they could get something out of before they were ravaged by injuries. Getting Messi in was brilliant for them however maybe they lost too much in doing so? Infact it was two former players in Yaya and Aguero who scored the decisive goals today. A great goal from Dempsey came inbetween but Madrids attacking prowess was just too much in the end.

Re: Fantasy European League™ Season 2 - Round 5
Bayern 1 - 1 Barcelona
Sanchez : Van Persie
Bayern are strong all round and, at home, I think they have enough to hold the current league leaders. Barca recruits came in and did a good job, maybe just a yard or two off the pace as they get to know eachother. RVP, however, was clinical with his sole opportunity. Bayern's bench is also strong which helps them hold out for a draw in the closing stages.
Arsenal 1 - 2 Inter Milan
Pique : Sneijder, Drogba
Arsenal took the lead through a set piece move, with Pique popping up with a powerful header. Inter worked hard to pull level and a moment of brilliance saw Sneijder hit the roof of the net with a curler. Drogba made a nuisance of himself up top all game and Pique and Mascherano struggled to handle him. Inter were able to bring on reinforcements and snatch a late winner.
Real Madrid 3 - 1 Man City
Bale, Aguero, Tevez : Alba
Injuries have hit City hard and I think Madrid in their own back yard would be far too strong. Dempsey would struggle to hold up on his own and would get isolated, with Silva and Luiz doing a decent job. It was the old City boys that hammered home the win.
Borussia Dortmund 1 - 3 Chelsea
Subotic : Ozil [2], Gomez
Whilst Dortmund's strongest area is defence, they couldn't keep on holding back the waves and waves of Chelsea attacks. Dortmund had few chances, with Kawaga getting a sniff. Their goal came from a set piece and a rae lapse in concentration from the Chelsea defence. Gomez took his chance brilliantly to see the game beyond doubt.
