What are your thoughts on the new trump course? - Page 5 Empty What are your thoughts on the new trump course?

First topic message reminder :

So trump has officially opened his new course on the menie estate and among the first players to tee off were Monty and Paul Lawrie. It is sad to see that Paul lawrie makes another decision which only someone unable to comprehend a wider world could make. For Monty, associating with the obtuse just seems normal and unfortunately he seems comfortable with this.

Lawrie skips the US open and then fails to realise what a terrible raping of the land he is condoning. He can help all the young Scottish folks in the world but it does not seem to help him to expand his mind.

There is no doubt I will get the usual backlash from those who see environmentalists as over sensitive or only repeating what the guardian told us to. But I would hope everyone, regardless of whether you think destroying an sssi is ok, can see that a great fraud has been committed against the people of Aberdeen and the country as a whole in the building of this course. The levels of corruption needed to gain planning permission for this course are just unacceptable and the government should never be held to ransom by one individual businessman.

Why any pro golfer would want to be seen standing by trump is a mystery, well it is not really; they no doubt had their wallets sufficiently stuffed. You would just hope they had a bit more integrity.

super_realist wrote:Mac, which industry do you think that it was who has developed unleaded fuel, bio-diesel, LPG and leaner burning aviation fuel? Do you think it was Greenpeace?

I'm not sure why you think Oil companies ought to be developing renewable sources anyway. They are Oil companies, with expertise in Oil related matters, how does this qualify them to develop renewables?
It doesn't mean just because they are the energy industry that encapsulates everything to do with it. A brain surgeon can't just turn up and start doing heart transplants simply because he's had medical training and works in the medical sector.

Do you think Dyson should be making TV's simply because they produce electrical goods?
With respect S_R, unleaded happened after much kicking and screaming and the fact Government told them to get rid of lead. Bio-diesel is about as green an alternative source as what it's replacing and arguably worse. LPG is still a hydrocarbon of limited quantity and pretty much as bad from an environmental perspective. I suppose better aviation fuel may be a point but I suspect any fuel efficiency gains in that field is down to aero engine manufacturers.
You're right re. the petrochemical industry specialising in that field but it's hard to then make a case that they're some super conscientious industry. They are what they are and if we're looking to them for alternatives in energy, we're wasting our time.

The smart thing for any mature government that found oil reserves in it's region to do, would be to use the tax revenue from that oil to develop other technologies and energy sources to repalce what is a quantifably finite resource. Expecting the oil industry itself to do anything outside of oil is like expecting turkeys to vote for Christmas.

For the avoidance of doubt, what our government did was p1ss it up against the wall on anything and everything from propping up inefficient public services to developing a pointless and redundant nuclear deterrent. Prudent use of the oil resources would have seen us with huge cash reserves to see out the global recession.

I like the look of the new Trump course and would play it.. if someone else was paying Smile

Super

That was sort of my point, I don’t think the oil companies have invested in renewable or sustainable technologies and do not see what incentives they have to do so.

It's no more their responsibility than chemical or engineering firms is it?

Navy, airline engine manufacturers had to work in conjunction to create leaner fuel.

Maybe, but to the largest extent kerosene is kerosene is kerosene. I'd wager the aero engine boys are the ones who can make a gallon of the stuff go further or not.

Perhaps Navy, but I think they are most likely request a type which meets certain tolerances/conditions/additives such as flash point, residue, corrosion etc, and this requires costly r and d, time, money and a great deal of expertise.

It's not just a case of 'we've built an engine, we need a gallon of four star from the oil company/refinery'

The fuel that goes in f1 cars for instance is technical beyond belief. Quality varies greatly too, ever wonder why the average American car is so crappy and slow? The standard of their fuel is of a much lower octane than ours in the UK. One litre of petrol is not the same thing the world over.

An Oil Company is an Oil Company is an Oil Company

They need to get added value for their product, so they pay chemical company's large amounts of money to develope crude oil into other products.

The same way they pay large amounts of money to stifle developement in alternative energy, they do not want to see their investments going bust.

Can you prove that as fact OP! Sounds very much a fairy tale.

Yes I agree all oil companies are out for themselves, but so are most big corporations. However to say they pay big bucks to stop others developing is a bold yet hollow statement that cannot be proved. Just because you believe it doesn't make it true or fact.

I can imagine op sitting on his sofa in his tin foil hat twitching at the curtains worried that they are out to get him.
Have you any idea how silly your conspiracy theories sound. Suppose you believe in chem trails, the loch Ness monster, 9/11 conspiracies or a Nazi base on the moon too?

Monty and the boys at talksport approve so it must be good. Don't know why but I think it should have been called the "Trump Coroporate Boys Club".

Well I played it on Sunday. Once it gets a bit more time to bed in, its going to be some golf course. Its a great track as it is and the views are wonderful. Dont actually think there is a bad hole on the course.

If I was being picky, me and my mates probably played it a bit early as the greens were a bit slow and fairways quite sandy but thats understandable with a course only open for 2 weeks...
