If Scottish football does collapse could it be a good thing?
First topic message reminder :
Obviously Scottish football is in a bit of a mess at the moment and there are those who will say 'it's just Rangers' but realistically the issues with Rangers will affect the whole league. What I want to know is could it be a chance to rebuild a failing system? Scottish league football has been on the decline since the late 90's and is no longer producing players like Paul Mcstay and Gary mcallister and the idea of attracting a player of the caliber that Paul Gascgoine was when he joined Rangers is laughable.
If, as has been suggested a number of clubs collapse because they haven't got the Rangers fixture and TV money could it be a positive and allow the SFA to build a stronger more competative league?
In my opinion Scotland need the likes of Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts and Killie (my club) to be strong and competing for titles or at least cups. It would be good to see Scottish clubs with a chance of reaching the second round of the chamions league. It would be nice to see us producing players who are better than the bottom half of the premiership.
I think Rangers problems could be a good thing, not just for them but for the whole league in Scotland. What do you think?

Why not?
How skillful do you think anyone can be on a half frozen or half soaked wind blown Pittodrie on a freezing cold February Tuesday evening?
We saw last year how Maribor and Malmo had that extra bit of quality that Rangers lacked.

I'm sure Rangers thought the same about Malmo and Maribor.
Teams half way through their season are always difficult, plus the swedish league is on a par with the SPL so could be tight.
I'd say 60/40 to Celtic, if they play well.

I agree it will be very tough indeed but they are away first so if they keep it tight and get them back to Parkhead them who knows.
Just seen the pot that Hearts are in,The same one as Liverpool

See how SR always dodges questions about his team, how did they do in Europe?
And he has said he has no interest in Scottish football yet he's in here all the time spouting pish.

I wouldn't say I'm a supporter of anyone these days. Used to go to Tannadice a lot, but lost the right to call myself a fan when I stopped going years ago due to preposterous entertainment/ticket price ratio. Lost interest in the Scottish game as en entertainment entity years ago. Very much like a once semi attractive girl who lets herself go.
Truth is United got pumped last night. Am I disappointed? Not at all. Scottish teams demonstrably don't belong anywhere in Europe beyond the qualification round, I suppose you could make a marginal case for Celtic, but it's really a fight for them these days to even get into the Champions League proper, and then a race for third place so they can get their backsides kicked away from home every game and be home before the postcards.
So they, like all the other teams to go out, got exactly what they deserve.

super_realist, does it not get a bit old running down something when you have no interest, no connection? I'm not sure if you understand the whole ethos of supporting a football team I'm not going to equate it to faith but I don't think you get it. Especially if your team is unsuccessful.
Its probably old fashioned but I still believe it should be an emotive thing.
You also seem to have a really negative attitude towards some foreign postal services

"home before the postcards" is a Tommy Docherty quote in response to Scotland's chances in The World Cup from the days they actually used to qualify.

I was aware of the saying super_realist but thought it might be better to end on a joke. Whether it was funny or not is a different matter
