14m statue of King Richie in Auckland?
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10819455
the Herald is reporting that a Chinese student in New Zealand wishes to build a huge statue of Richie McCaw for dowtown Auckland. According to the article he plans to go the council this week with the plans.
Thoughts? A statue would be a fitting way to remember his individual efforts as well as the achievement of the All Blacks as a whole in winning the RWC2011, but a gigantic statue may be a bit excessive. Will be interesting to see if the council gives it the green light

We dont need any more statues, with Dave Gallaher and Michael Jones at Eden Park why on earth would we put up a statue of a player from Canterbury?

It'd be Richie the All Black, Richie the New Zealander; not Richie the Cantab. If it's celebrating the All Blacks/New Zealand then why does it matter which province the subject is from?

Its probably for the same reason that theres a statue of Dally Messenger outside the Sydney football Stadium, and not in Brisbane. Theyve got King Wally anyway.

so if somebody decided to build a statue of Nathan Cayless holding the Rugby League World Cup, wouldn't NZ be the place for that statue, or should it be placed at Parra?

Where is Auckland? They seem to have fallen off the rugby map. Maybe a big statue of Richie will help rejuvenate rugby in the region.

Did anybody else noticing that Auckland won all their SXV matches after Graham Henry go to help Pat Lam?

It would make more sense to have a smaller statue of Lam in Auckland.

Kia
We'll be back, before you guys realise.
Linebreaker
Youre right If Lam has a statue it'll be much smaller, probably like one of those ones that you can get at a garden centre.

Either him or a 10-foot one of you, laurie!
(but yours will have to be custom made... not mass produced)

JK has signed for two years with the Blues. Seems to be good news Laurie. It'll be interesting to see the effect he has, particularly on attack. He now has an opportunity to make a name for himself in the NZ scene rather than overseas.
Read today there was an emotional sending off of Lam on his last game. You gotta feel for the bugger. It gets ugly when you don't get the results.

You can't tolerate weakness and failure on sentiment Kia! It's not about was Pat Lam a nice guy, it's about did he do the job. The criticism and his removal should be about professional and business and not about personal. I'm sure he is strong and open minded enough to confess to his failure and continue to learning and improve and come back somewhere else later as a better person and stronger professional. All the best to him. For example Wales must probably be due to look for a new Kiwi coach soon

I don't AWOP. I know he had to go. But that doesn't make me feel for the guy now that he's been axed. Not because I think as a coach he deserved to stay because he quite clearly didn't. But because when NZ rugby loses, there is a small but vocal element that rears its ugly head. John Hart being spat at down in Canterbury, Pat Lam having to put up with racist taunts. Coach is next to referee in terms of the little thanks you get and all the nastiness you receive in bucketfuls!
