Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
Team Task:
Team of:
Olly
OTW
Cherries
Twist
Brahma
Let's get cracking then....hope you don't mind the team name, but I thought I might as well get the ball rolling. Whose up for team leader this time then? I guess it is down to me, bull and trebs
- Spoiler:
- Youth scouting
You are the scouting team for Everton and the Ginger Messiah has asked you to identify some up and coming players that may have slipped under the radar of the bigger clubs. He has asked that you provide a report which shortlists 6 players you would recommend to Everton, and then a recommendation of which 3 the club should buy. £15m has been set aside for these purchases.
Moyes would like to point out that Everton are not a rich club who can get £15m easily, so good value players who could quickly challenge for the first team would be looked upon favourably, especially those that could quickly solve some of Everton’s main problem areas.
Please submit your report by 3pm on Friday 20th July
Team of:

I would be very keen to lead this task
But I'm happy to follow if Twist/Bull want to do it. Do you want it twist/bull?
Then the others can vote on it.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
I will project manage
I think the best way to do this sort of task is to first see if any names immediately come to mind, then split up and look for players, taking an area each.
Britain (Covers Scottish league, Championship etc.)
Germany/France
Spain/Portugal
South America
Italy/Other minor European countries
So, if anyone immediately has any names that come to mind, say so now. Also, preferences on areas to scout.

Olly, yes
I was thinking about Fraser Fyvie, Scottish player, looks a top prospect.
If you could each get five targets in your region, we'll go from there

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- To be honest, IMO, the key to this is "quickly challenge the first team". I feel getting in overseas players may backfire on us. I would rather concentrate on those that are currently plying their trade in the UK.
Also, we have to think about work permits. Young overseas footballers (especially non-european) will really struggle to get one unless currently a first teamer.
Sorry to put a spanner in the works trebs I will take south american anyway, but we may need a rethink

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
I think we should get a mix. I definitely agree we should have players who will quickly challenge the first team, but I would like one or two who are very young and very cheap, as we won't get six players in who will challenge quickly.
I think maybe going for a couple of players who would cost around £1 million, then it allows more money to spend on the other players maybe?
Also, if we're looking at challenging the first team, then we should look at what the first team is?
-------------------Howard---------------------
Neville-----Heitinga---Jagielka-----Baines
---------------Fellaini---Rodwell--------------
------Coleman----Cahill--------Osman------
-----------------------Jelavic-------------------
Maybe Gibson in for Rodwell?

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- Well we could get someone like Josh McEachran for instance?
I would say with the age of Neville and Baines on his way out, we should be looking at FB's
Jetro Willems......Lucas Digne.........Jon Flanagan.......Carl Jenkinson
Just some names off the top of my head that are young good fullbacks. I really think Mateo Kovacic is a must though.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
Kovacic is signing number one then.
I think we should look at right back, and the wings. Also there's not a lot of great backup in attack for them, I reckon a striker who is banging in the goals at a smaller league would be a good signing. Jetro Willems had a bad Euros but would be a good signing here I think.
I'm not sure about McEachran, as it says "...slipped under the radar of the bigger clubs." which implies to me players from Chelsea, United, Madrid etc. are no-gos.

- Jordan Rhodes? Prolific for Huddersfield, already linked with Everton, and at £3.1m you can't grumble. He is only 22

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- I would also look at Sheffied United's youth team. They got to the FA Youth trophy final and I think was beaten by Man U Youth. They already have some of that team that has moved up to the first team, and their academy is amazing
EDIT: It is a shame they have just signed John Cofie from Man U youth....he is a good striker, but probably would not be allowed to move now

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- Crewe also have some of the best young talents there as well. Agree that some of the players should be British, but I think if we can get a couple of players who are playing every week in Germany, Italy or somewhere then that would be good too. Jordan Rhodes is a good shout, don't know if he's a must-have like Kovacic is, but he's definitely one to consider.

- If you are looking at full backs Matthew Lowton (formerly of Sheff Utd, now of Aston Villa) is a BIG prospect. Remember Sheff Utd also produced Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation

- Good idea.
I think having looser roles is probably better and people can just look for players generally then tomorrow we'll evaluate the situation and work out what we need.

Good spot Olly.
I say we look at three positions, and find as many players as possible for each. Then from there we narrow it down to two in each?

Yes, so I'm thinking two right backs, a first choice and a second choice, for starters. Then two wingers.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
