Team Task:
- Spoiler:
- Youth scouting
You are the scouting team for Everton and the Ginger Messiah has asked you to identify some up and coming players that may have slipped under the radar of the bigger clubs. He has asked that you provide a report which shortlists 6 players you would recommend to Everton, and then a recommendation of which 3 the club should buy. £15m has been set aside for these purchases.
Moyes would like to point out that Everton are not a rich club who can get £15m easily, so good value players who could quickly challenge for the first team would be looked upon favourably, especially those that could quickly solve some of Everton’s main problem areas.
Please submit your report by 3pm on Friday 20th July

- Hey Cherries,
If you could go scouting for players that'd be good. Nobody's really looked across Europe, so go through the Italian, Spanish leagues see if you can find any good young players rated up to about 6m on transfermarkt

- Spoiler:
- Personally I would not get too hang up on the money. If we see three good players and it is worth a fraction of the budget, then I think that is fine.
Jordan Rhodes and Mateo Kovacic are my shouts, and they are worth a little over 5m for the pair.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation

- RB's I thought of:
Nathaniel Clyne - £1.8m TM Value - Age 21 (on the verge of moving to Southampton)

Matthew Lowton - £3.1M TM Value - Age 23 (just moved to Villa)
Sime Vrsalijko - £4.8M TM Value - Age 20
Wingers I thought of:
Nathan Redmond - £2.2M TM Value
David Hoilett - Free transfer?????
Kerim Frei - £2.6M TM Value
Ryo Miyachi?
Strikers I thought of:
Connor Wickham - £5.3M TM Value

Up to Trebs I guess. I have put all the targets I have thought of up there ^^
I know they are pretty much all from England, but I don't have much knowledge of overseas

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- I think GB is the way to go. Kovacic is the exception, but he really is a quality talent, still cheap, and someone that can grow in the PL.
Will he be pushing for the first team straight away? Not sure but I think he is too big a talent to miss.
The problem with this challenge is the wording.....do we go for young stars in the making (Kovacic) or young players that might already be in the PL playing in the Carling Cup sides (Gibbs). These players would be more expensive. Also, how young is young??? 18-21 or do we go as far as, say, 24?
The bit that worries me is "pushing for first team". Surely for that to happen, the players need to have good experience behind them already? Problem is, when I think about youth development, I think about planning for the future. So "pushing for the first team" and "planning for the future" (3-4 yrs) is a direct contridiction.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
I feel I need to add this to both teams...
For me the key to this task is the slipped under the radar of bigger clubs. Everton are not the kind of club to be able to compete with the top clubs, so would be looking for less well known players.
Pushing for the first team quickly to me means not in 5 years time, but in 1 or 2 years. At Everton for example, a CM is going to need to be a lot better to push for first team that a RB would need to be as the CM is a lot stronger.
Ultimately, my interpretation is improving the first team in 2 years time and not very well known at all so that Everton are likely to be able to compete

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- In that case I would say Jordan Rhodes is still a good one. Mateo Kovacic is now up for debate.
I think taking risks on foreign imports is not the way to go, especially when they have one year to get used to the country and in the second year are pushing for the first team. I would strongly suggest GB only after what Afro has just said.

Sorry, I've been a part of the Di Miria fiasco. This morning I have a lot of time and will go scouting.
I think Jordan Rhodes would be a very good signing

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- I also think, what with Howards age, we should go for a GK.
Ben Amos? 22, Under 21 international, worth next to nothing, and unlikely to get any playing time with De Gea in front of him. The new Joe Hart?
Or.....Jack Butland? He may well be first choice at the Olympics. Could see his value skyrocket.

- Spoiler:
- If others think we should get a goalie, then fine. But, I think we're fine there. He has a contract for the next four years and I don't see him leaving anytime soon.
If we do get a keeper, I'd like to get Ben Amos.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- If we are looking at GK's may I suggest Connor Ripley or Jason Steele both of Middlesbrough. Steele is an England Under 21 keeper, and Ripley is an England Under 19 keeper. Steele is the more likely to challenge sooner

- Spoiler:
- I was thinking that their backup isn't the strongest and he is likely to get a few injuries as he gets older. I see it very much like the Shay Given/Joe Hart situation Man City had. Good back up, and ready to take the reins for the future.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
My scouting:
Right backs
Adam Matthews (Did well last season for Celtic, been linked with Everton IRL)
Timothy Chandler (Recently broken into the USA national team, big fish in a small pond)
Lorenzo Di Silvestri (At 24, it's pushing it about whether or not he's considered young, but I think he's a great talent and cheap at only 3.5m)
Kelvin Leerdam (Again, broke into the side last season, had a decent season at Feyenoord)
Wingers/attacking mids
Franck Tabanou (Would be expensive, but he plays left wing and would immediately start for Everton)
Nacer Chadli (Plays on the left or behind a striker, is strong and would be well adapted to the premier league. Scored 13 last season)
Isco (Had a breakthrough season at Malaga and is versatile which would be handy)
Fraser Fyvie (Just signed for Wigan IRL, don't know if that counts or not, but he's only 1m)
Marc Arlbrighton (Starts for Villa, I think he'd be a very good signing, expect him to play for England in the future)
Strikers
Andre Carrillo (21 year old playing in the Portugese league, plays off a striker)
Kiko Macheda (Doesn't seem to be rated by United, but I think he could become something special)
Jozy Altidore (Played all over Europe and scored 15 in Holland last year)
Aleksandr Kokorin (Was part of the Russia Euro 2012 squad, broke into Dynamo Moscow's side last season)
Andriy Yarmolenko (At 11.5m he'd be expensive, but he's a very good player who would straight away be a key player, only a possibility if the other players are cheap. This would be a crazy wildcard signing)
Also, the Crewe academy is very highly rated, does anyone know of any stars in the making there?

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- My picks would be Rhodes, Arlbrighton, Ben Amos/RB.
I know a RB is the main thing to get, but none really stand out for me. As Albrighton and Rhodes would cost half the budget, can we go big for a RB?
Stefan Savic, Martín Montoya, Daniel Schwaab......Alex Sandro even?
I know I said GB only, but if RB is such a problem area, then what is the point of holding money back?

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- I thought Adam Matthews, definitely for right back. Me and Olly both scouted Timothy Chandler as well which makes me think.
I am a fan of Arlbrighton as well and would pick him
Jordon Rhodes for striker seems the top pick, but I want to hear from all the managers before making a decision.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- Rhodes as striker for me is a definate.
I have to say I like Redmond more than Albrighton, and I think we would have a more realistic chance of getting Redmond tbh.
I like Chandler at RB, think he is top quality.
And from the Crewe academy you obviously had Powell, but another one is Max Clayton who is a striker. Scored some goals last year, and think he is only 17.

Yeah he is, I rate him and am prepared to take the wrath if that decision comes back to haunt me. But, if everyone else doesn't rate him, I won't include him, I'd be stupid to. Just do a bit of research on the player, let me know what you think?

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- Right, could two people please do something similar over the wingers and strikers please. Just say why they're good and a little about the player.
Right backs - With Tony Hibbert and Phil Neville both aging, Neville in particular seemingly close to retirement, we feel a right back is a key signing.
First choice - Timothy Chandler
TM Value: £4m
Has just broken into the USA side, and last season became Nuremburg's first choice right back. One of the few bright sparks in a disappointing season for their club where they finished in the bottom half of the table. He can attack and get down the flank, as well as being a strong player who would cope well with the physical side of the premier league. We would expect him to quickly become the club's first choice right back.
Second choice - Adam Matthews
TM Value: £1.8m
Again, had a breakthrough season last season, both for Celtic and Wales, gaining a starting spot for both. He played 27 games in the league and would love the chance to move to Everton. Most players in the Scottish League would make the move to a Premier League club immediately. He has fantastic pace and energy to his game and this would allow him to keep up with the opposing wingers.

Re: Apprentice Task 2 - New (Blue) Generation
- Spoiler:
- Right Midfielders - We have decided to improve this area, because we feel that despite Seamus Coleman and Leon Osman being good players, Everton need a really good winger who can cause havoc down the right side.
First Choice - Nathan Redmond (Age 18)
TM Value: £2.2M
Redmond at 18 is our first choice because he is a very exciting talent. He was in and out of the Birmingham team last season in the Championship making 24 appearances, however he scored 5 goals which is a very good return for a winger. Redmond has bags of pace and skill and can trouble any left back. We would expect him to maybe be an impact sub the first season, however he would really break out soon and make that RM slot his own. He is also a current England Under 19 international. He would jump at the chance to move to a club of Everton's stature and with Birmingham's current financial situation, he would be available at the right price.
Second Choice - Marc Albrighton (Age 22)
TM Value: £4.4M
Albrighton is again another pacy winger who likes to get down the wing and beat the left back. He is our second choice however because despite having Premier League experience, he hasn't really shown his potential regularly enough only making 22 appearances for Aston Villa last season. Also because he is already at a club like Aston Villa, I'm not so sure if he would move to Everton without a lot of money being offered.
Hope that is ok?
