The Opening/Closing Ceremony Thread
First topic message reminder :
So, is everybody as excited as I am?
I literally can't wait for 9.00 tonight - just a shame that I'm going to be round with family who'll probably have it on but will probably talk.
I hope that they put on something spectacular rather than just following the way other Games have done it. Apparently HM The Queen's entrance is weather-affected (surely she can't be parachuting ), and then we have the question of how the flame will be lit. The more I think about it the more I think it won't be a famous sportman - more likely it'll be something to do with legacy (a young kid from the East End maybe, or a sport's coach), or it'll be lit by more than one person. If it is a famous sportsperson surely it has to be Sir Steve Redgrave - nobody can match him as a British olympian. If its Beckham I think it would be a travesty; luckily it almost certainly won't be.

Yes that Muhammed Ali scene was awful wasn't it? And that coach wanted to p*** himself laughing so the camera panned away very quickly.

In 96 it was sad but in some way a triumph over adversity, this was just upsetting imo.
Great for these kids at the moment.

I think they gave it to the kids because Redgrave and Thompson were gonna cause a civil war over it.

Re: The Opening/Closing Ceremony Thread
Macca is seriously losing it though. I never liked Hey Jude anyway and that was a weak performance.
Nice greenery. I like the bit when Coe and Rogge stood on the green hill. That was well different.

Is anyone else disappointed with how the flame was li? Usually its a big show. Like up a waterfall or shot from an arrow. And how can it stay right in the middle of the field when u have the javelin for instance

Wow! Just wow!
Great Britain does the world proud. What a brilliant opening ceremony. Full credit to the Brits - organized with their usual military precision and timing.
Danny Boyle knows how to do extravaganzas.

Had they ended it after the first hour I would have said brilliant, but for 2 hours or so it was boring.

Wasn't a fan of the parts I saw (I didn't see all of it though) but some of it was magnificent towards the end in particular.

They said they are gonna move it. I don;t like the flame. Good engineering but it should be in a cauldron not a bunch of copper poles. And it's too low. Should in in a big bowl on top of the athletics stadium like usual.

That flame. I don't like it. Decent production though overall.
That flame is all wrong I cannot get used to it.
