The Opening/Closing Ceremony Thread
First topic message reminder :
So, is everybody as excited as I am?
I literally can't wait for 9.00 tonight - just a shame that I'm going to be round with family who'll probably have it on but will probably talk.
I hope that they put on something spectacular rather than just following the way other Games have done it. Apparently HM The Queen's entrance is weather-affected (surely she can't be parachuting ), and then we have the question of how the flame will be lit. The more I think about it the more I think it won't be a famous sportman - more likely it'll be something to do with legacy (a young kid from the East End maybe, or a sport's coach), or it'll be lit by more than one person. If it is a famous sportsperson surely it has to be Sir Steve Redgrave - nobody can match him as a British olympian. If its Beckham I think it would be a travesty; luckily it almost certainly won't be.

- Spoiler:
I skipped most of the flags - about to go onto the music section now.
Re: The Opening/Closing Ceremony Thread
Loved the show, you can tell it was more in the style of a film director/producer with the stories it told.
My favourite bit was the torch being brought in, with that beautiful song in the background - Caliban's Dream by Underworld with Alex Trimble on vocals.
Loved the lighting of the "cauldron" but a bit disappointed there was no mechanism that actually moved the flame to the top of the stands, where it belongs.

Re: The Opening/Closing Ceremony Thread
According to the Mirror, Freddie Mercury will be starring in this Ceremony. As well as Queen, the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Madness, Muse, Spice Girls, Annie Lennox, One Direction, Tinie Tempah, Take That singer Gary Barlow and George Michael are also all expected to play a part in the show.
To say I'm mildly worried is an understatement!

I'll pick up where I left off, when I said I wasn't a huge fan of the opening. The spice girls and one Direction. That's bad going lads!
Still, you can be proud of everything at the Olympics besides that!

If they were to really showcase the best of British they'd have asked Plan B and Adele to perform. Anybody looking forward to seeing the Spice Girls?

and all sorts, we have a fantastic musical heritage and active scene. Even my female Housemates who were massive Spice Girls fans back in day are a bit annoyed that they are just rocking up and playing
