I was hoping if it was true that it'd only be a loan move - all the best, but a shame to see him go

How old is this guy? We need the cover regardless.
As mucho of a player Evans is he's really not a natural 7.

They must really not rate Rob Nash down at RP. I can't see why though. Has Cudd played much? I thought Dan Thomas was their first choice open-side at Llanelli, good choice too.

He's 23.
Yeh I really rate Nash but it may be down to the fact he's a tad hot headed.
Interesting in the argus
"The Dragons will confirm the deal tomorrow but the signing of Cudd, who made seven Scarlets appearances after coming through their academy, does not have any impact on their search for an overseas star to bolster the back five of their pack."
Star? Really, overseas STAR? I doubt it.

Who's the oversees star then?
It would be a bit odd that they made shanks captain and then signed 2 more back rowers...

No idea. I'm guessing he's going to be a lock who could cover 6.
We do need another lock. Ok Adam n Sid are good players but they're not getting any younger and injures take longer to heal with age.

How Sid is still playing and performing is beyond me, not to mention all his academy commitments.
A lock would be very handy.

What gets me with the Ospreys they don't use Barry Davies, just Fussell who can't handle pressure,
They use the hopeless Tom Issacs on the wing and have let Tom Prydie and Kristian Phillips go
WFT?

The Ospreys let Barry Davies go, I believe he's playing for Carmarthen Quins now as he couldn't get a contract with London Welsh

Ye Davies has left.
Fussell has to play FB, Dirkson, Isaacs or Walker can't do it.

They need to put Ross Jones into the mix, looks quite promising. There still seems to be some big selection issues though down at the Lib.

shame the dragons didn't sign josh strauss who signed for glasgow this week. he can play across the backrow, and would have been handy when toby & danny was away with wales. sure with the lions losing their franchise, there's a few south africans who are currently looking for a club.

I hope Nic Cudd does really well at The Dragons. I remember him playing for Mynydd Mawr Schools as a 9 years old and thinking this boy has something special.
He has bags of ability, a big, big heart. He will put his body on the line time after time.
The only negative is ----- he is a bit injury prone. Probably due to the fact that he is so brave.
Pob lwc Nic!

Re: Welsh Regions Signings/Departures/Rumours so far ( Barry Davies signs for Jersey RFC)
Sounds like a decent signing if true. Cudd was always going to have a chore breaking in at PYS with the back row options Scarlets have nowadays and with his youth/talent and Dragons' current back row dilemma it could be win-win.
Says on the beeb website Edwards' is still keen on overseas signings, no names mentioned though. Any rumours circulating the mill?

Newport Gwent Dragons have boosted their ranks with 2 forward signings. Llanelli openside Nic Cudd and Llandovery loosehead Owen Evans have both joined the region. Cudd, who has signed a 1 year deal with the Men of Gwent has made 70 appearances for Llanelli, as well as 7 for the Scarlets and at 23 has represented Wales at every age-grade level. In addition to making over 70 appearances for his club, Evans represented Wales in the 2009 Junior World Cup and was in the Scarlets European squad for the 2010-11 season. He joins the Dragons on a 2 year contract. Dragons Director of Rugby said “I am delighted that Nic and Owen are joining the Dragons and would like to thank Anthony Buchanan of Llanelli RFC and Lyndon Lewis of Llandovery RFC for their assistance in these signings."

Owen Evans (Son of Ricky Evans of Llanelli Scarlets and Wales) played on dual contract from Llandovery at Pontyberem RFC two seasons ago.
He has the physical attributes to make it at Regional level.

Would they have been able to afford him with the likes of Lydiate and Faletau already on their books?
Glasgow have probably got a lot more funding than the Dragons due to the fact that there are only 2 pro teams in Scotland.

I think we would/should have considering we lost Brew, Tovey and Charteris.
Him and Nimmo running about would have been scary.

You've got to take into account the salary cap that's been enforced this season as well though

Yeah, I still don't think we would have touched it but I guess we are spending within our means and promoting talent where we can.

Yea you're probably right. In a way with Lydiate and Faletau already there would it have made much sense?
It would probably better to save up the money to buy a solid tighthead in the future, as well as some locks

Yeah but I'm still left wondering, especailly after seeing this loosehead signing, why they will not take a look at the Cross Keys front row or number 7.

Cos we've signed a loosehead and Cornock is totally the wrong shape. I like Nash, but his temperament is iffy. His yellow v Munster A was daft, as was his red v Ponty. Not done himself any favours there.

Re: Welsh Regions Signings/Departures/Rumours so far ( Barry Davies signs for Jersey RFC)
I know Cornock is a really big fella, but there's no harm in having him on the subs bench just to test him for 20 minutes. Nobody says Effion Lewis-Roberts is the wrong shape now do they.

Rob appleyard probably knows these players pretty well from his time coaching in Llanelli and Llandovery. Think they are definitely worth taking a punt on (1 & 2 year contracts) - Dragons have a history of turning relatively unknown west walian premiership players into regional players (hugh gustafson, martyn thomas, sam parry etc) hopefully these moves will turn out successful for the players and the region.

Yes it's good to know he's got a club (though I liked the idea of him being on standby for the Scarlets at the Quins in case we needed him!). It's a shame he's left Wales though, and I'm still amazed that the Ospreys let him go considering they need a FB most out of the regions. The Blues could have done with him as well.

At the moment none of the regions are looking to recruit hookers. So I guess he will available to the dragons if there's injuries to Jones, parry or Gustafson. Think the cross keys boys might have been overlooked cause iestyn the new forwards coach at the dragons has gone for players he's familiar with within the scarlets region.

Think the cross keys boys might have been overlooked cause iestyn the new forwards coach at the dragons has gone for players he's familiar with within the scarlets region.
I seriously hope that this is not true, Gerwyn Price is one of the most promising hookers in Wales at the moment and if you ask me he is better than what the Dragons have at the moment, if we are not carefull we will see another front row forward depart west of Offa's Dyke.

Good signing by Jersey. I used to wonder how the hell Barry Davies was missing out on Wales selection during his time at Scarlets. Still a very solid and capable fullback even today.
What I can't stop asking myself is why are the O's more keen on an unorthodox and fragile option in Fussell than someone like Davies! A silly and annoying trend started off by Holley and seemingly inherited by Tandy.

Hmm always rated BD. big boot, attacking threat and a decent defender. Really surprised no one wanted/had room for him.
On Price, all I ever here is rave reviews about this guy yet he's not seen any dragons action. Our hookers are ok but not great.. Well.. KABOBS wouldn't swap Jabba for anyone!
