Gracias Juan!
Nishikori v Ferrer might be an upset in the making - Nishikori looked like he was in pretty decent form.
The rest will probably go with ranking.

I think they need to learn how to use the one on Centre Court first, i.e. listen to weather forecasts that tell the nation that showers were going to be coming for the afternoon
Maybe they''re just trying to urine Novak off, so he defaults, thinking that this is Andy's only chance

Fed has looked awful at this tourney so far.
It's like the shanky, inconsistent Fed of 2010/11 has returned.

Her game is average and uninteresting.
Her looks aren't.

In fairness Fed has played a LOT of tennis in his bid to get #1 back, so I'm unsurprised to see the consequences of that show through once in a while.

I think he'll tank Canada, which is a pity for the ranking.

That's true Reckoner, I keep expecting the wheels to fall off at some point. He's played a lot of matches this year - more than all the other top players.
Djokovic's BH slice is a thing of unrivalled ugliness.

Amazing that the much maligned Hewitt, with steel plates and screws in his foot has now twice this year given Djokovic a run for his money.
I think peak vs peak it would be 50-50.

Would Fed necessarily give up #1 if he did tank Canada? Too many variables for me to figure out how the ranking would go right now.

Yup and very similar players too, as much as Socal would beg to differ. Last year Djokovic looked like the updated model, which is what I think you said, resulting in much indignance from Socal; now I think you may have been a little too generous to the Djoker.

One thing for sure - Hewitt is a better volleyer and net player than Novak.

It's quite amusing how whenever Djokovic plays he never seems to be the crowd favourite. They always seem to be rooting for the other guy.

I think the US would be enough you know. If he also defends Paris and WTF, Djokovic and Nadal would be battling for Shanghai, Basel and Tokyo.

I think you're right... oh well let's see how it all pans out! I'm expecting Nadal to come back with a monster serve for the hard courts after his lay-off.

Unquestionably so.emancipator wrote:One thing for sure - Hewitt is a better volleyer and net player than Novak.
Yes, I may have done Leyton down by dismissing him as just a prior version of Djokovic, he played more tennis on faster courts so has a better net game. Djokovic is much fitter though.

People are so quick to write Hewitt off - I couldn't stand his fist pumping at the time but hat's off to him to keep playing after he was somewhat overtaken by the field - it takes real guts to do that.

In fairness, I not seen Hewitt used much as an argument for the 'weak era' theory. Personally, I thought he was always under-rated and disliked the comments about him which were used to belittle Murray - as though the Australian was just some journeyman
Noel like Rafa seems to be out of synch on very fast courts, when he comes against someone who can play on them. Ironically, their 'great' battles of recent months - has made them a little bit more limited for varying fast court services
They're still pretty good though!!

I made the huge error of dropping into *that* website and saw that Wooffie was going to Wimbledon today and seeing Federer. She was less than enthralled by the prospect.
Incidentally, I fully expect to be asked if I'm 18 going onto that blog soon.

Re: Olympic Day 5 Thread
Managed to see most of Federer/Istomin earlier and although there were spells of good stuff from Federer I didn't think he looked especially impressive overall.
Sure, he had too much for Istomin (who put up a very respectable challenge) in the end - as he still does for most guys on the tour despite the very often big age gap. But there's a slow-growing inconsistency in these later years that puts him at more risk in B03, whereas over five sets the battle-hardened experience from 1000+ matches can pull him through so many times.
I'd be pretty gobsmacked if Hewitt can take this decider, but stranger things have happened I guess....

She'll be tweeting from centre court until her battery runs out
Who the hell follows her. I bet she imagines it all. I dread to go on her twitter page - what monstrosities there must be on there.
