Westwood dumps Cowan - Page 2 Empty Westwood dumps Cowan

First topic message reminder :

While Rory was cruising to victory last night, Chubby quietly announced that Lee's terminated his relationship with Pete Cowan. He's also hired Quiros' caddy - link

Some very revealing snippets there, I thought.

Obviously Johnstone had an excellent shport game and id imagine would be a great coach. But is he the sort of bloke to be on Westwoods back to get the practise in, seems like way too nice a guy to be pushing anyone like that.

Lee has a replacement for Pete Cowen. "I won't say who it is, but it will become public next week, because he'll be working with Lee for a few days at the Barclays tournament. All I'll say is that it's not one of the usual suspects – it's someone a bit different. It's an interesting choice.

It'll certainly be interesting to see who it is. What I can't work out though is why he just doesn't hold on to Cowan for the long game, even on a reduced basis and just seek specific short game expertise.

I know it's unlikely whilst he still has playing commitments but I wonder if Lawrie has given any thought to being a short game coach. Imagine a player with Westwoods long game and Lawrie's short game. Mind you how much of Lawrie chipping ability is actually teachable as opposed to just inbuilt instinctive talent.

Loved the snippet of the Lawrie/Monty conversation :-)

If Westwood needs someone to make him practice then it says a lot. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard, and all that.

No signs of anything miraculous from TJ just yet. Westwood hitting 16 of 18 greens, taking 3 to get down on one of the two misses, another 3 to get down from a greenside bunker for a par 5 and also chucking in a 3 putt for good measure.

Sounds like me.

Except for the hitting of 16 of 18 greens...
