First topic message reminder :

Wondrous folks of the 606v2 forum, I com asking an internet based favour again. You all very kindly went on to a website for me previously to win the wife a photo competition, the prize for which was a hair treatment at a swanky London salon.

I come to ask you to do the same for me again if you can, although this time not for the wife, for a friend, and the prize is a different, and more worthy one to shiny hair.

Here is the link…

http://www.starcentralmagazine.com/voting/2012/07/30/sexiest-women-august-2012/

… and listed are 7 pretty ladies. Olley Edwards is a friend and the prize for her if she wins this competition is a feature, including an interview in the magazine. What Olley would like to do is to use the feature to talk about female autism and raise awreness of it, as it is a topic close to her heart, but, she can only do this if she wins.

As with all of these types of comp you can only vote once daily from each IP address, although if you have multiple devices (PC, laptop, tablet, mobile) you can vote off each. The competition runs until 12:00 am on the 30th August Australian time as it's an Aussie website, so if you can I would ask if you could vote on as many days as possible and from as many devices, as it is a very close competition. There is no sign up, it is a simply click and go.

As I say, it is for a good cause, and I would be extremely grateful to all who do vote.

Thank you in advance to anyone who does. You are the best internet forum users on the, erm ….. Internet!

Being?

[ed] Get either MrsP, Dreamer or indeed any woman on this site to attest unequivocally via a post that it is worthy cause and I'll vote for Olley Edwards.

Meanwhile, I may just as well browse the entrants, google image/videos in the hope of finding a suitable candidate to leer at and slip a quicky off my wrist.

That they are about 8 years of age and should not be called "lush" by a 60 year old man.

That is true. But also the truth is that Ozzie is sponsoring a misogynistic cattle market.

But to do so on a sports site (and as a moderator) is pushing the bounds of credulity.

Ironing contests for your missus' luxury make-over is one thing.

Olley's support campaign is entirely another.

And I notice that as it's no longer a global sticky, at least one of the mod team has at least some misgivings.

Portnoy, it is clear from the title of this thread what it is. it is me asking for people to vote for a friend. If you don't agree with it, then don't read the thread, it's really pretty simple. Nobody is holding a gun to your head to vote or read the thread at all. Some people have decided that they will vote, and perhaps the pictures brightened their day, and those that have looked at the thread and not wanted to have simply exercised their right not to.

You appear to be in a vocal minority of one who see that there is something to crusade against here.

Personally I have had the odd issue very a minority of mods. But you lot do an unpaid job- so the occasional sticky to help your friend out is fine in my book!!

Maybe to make things fair on all- we should have a stickied help thread where anyone of us can ask for votes for any cause on.. Its kind of like having a mini mason type envioroment. You scratch my back i will scratch yours!!

I don't see how's it's misogynistic, I like those women, a lot. Suggest you look up misogyny and edit that for starters, I don't see how it's been sponsored either, so you might want to do something there too? Finally, when did this forum suddenly change to one that is exclusively for sports Portnoy?

I don't see what the issue is, but perhaps that's more because you're not being entirely transparent about it. chin

Star Central is a Sydney-based gossip mag http://www.starcentralmagazine.com/ whis doesn't appear on first inspection tot sell a great deal of copies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_magazines_by_circulation#Australia ,
http://www.adnews.com.au/files/dmfile/ABC_allmagazines_feb2012.pdf

So far as I can see it's interest in chatable/good appears to be somewhat peripheral.

If it is agreed by the hosts to support good / charitable causes alongside then I agree and support them.

But I'm not sure that this one quite hits the mark.

After all, we've all read and agreed to the house rules, haven't we?

PJ,
Apologies, I was using 'misogynistic' in the loose feminist style. Sexist may be more appropriate.

"Finally, when did this forum suddenly change to one that is exclusively for sports Portnoy?"

First sentence of

In January of 2011, the BBC made the announcement of its intent to close its sports forum at the end of the 2010/11 football season due to cost cutting across the corporation. From the fallout of this announcement, the decision was made by some of its members to set up an alternative.

To be honest I don;t care if I was voting for the best toad, I would vote if a fellas asks for a hand. The fact that this person is going to be talking about an issue which is incredibly close to my heart (my sister has autism, not high functioning like Aspergers or something like that) and if it helps in any way to learning more about the condition or raising it in the public consciousness then I will continue to vote most days. If it helps in any way I will do it, I have a put a lot more effort into helping out autism so this doesn't require much.

Exclusively, not primarily Portnoy. We all know it's primarily a sports forum, but I'm pretty certain that it's never been exclusively sport, hasn't there always been provision for General discussion?

Notch, I couldn't agree more. The man's just asking for some help, the lady in question (if she wins) will be using the subsequent interview as a platform for raising awareness of autism - I just don't see an issue.

Gibbo,

Is the new job going to mean you can travel more through more funds, or less through less time? Need to know when you're in town next bud, Amlin final night was too short a meet up, need pints with you. Exeter vs. Leinster???

I can travel more bud. Will not miss a single Leinster HC game this season now. Missed some last season and lost me contiguous record. Weekends are no problem. See you in Asbo's/Exeter. Wear sumting slinky. OK guinness
