OWGR -Week #33
It's been a looong (and wet) weekend!
But a Sergio Garcia win on the PGA Tour is such a rara avis these days, that it's certainly well worth waiting for!
Wat a great response from the brilliant Spaniard just when it was required most of him for a number of reasons.
And on top of all that he is jumping back inside the top 20 in the world, at #17. Excellent week also for Tim Clark,
who's climbing back inside the top 100 (#90) and for the young Bud Cauley, moving up to a carreer best #64.
Congrats also to Toshinori Muto, winner on the Japanese Tour and climbing up close to the top 100, somewhere around #110. And finally well done to the Italian Alessandro Tadini and Texan Shawn Stefani, winners on the CT and Web.com Tour this week, respectively, moving both up somewhere around #325-330...
The OWGR table after week #33 should look as follows:
1 Rory McIlroy
2 Luke Donald
3 Tiger Woods

5 Webb Simpson
6 Adam Scott
7 Bubba Watson
8 Justin Rose

Re: OWGR -Week #33
Order is restored!
Sergio in the Top Twenty, Tim Clark back up to #90.
Sergio must have a great chance at Bethpage this week . . . . . .
Time for Jason Day to hit the skids, as Ryo has done at last.
Thanks pd, Still not sure why you couldn't post this last night . . . . .

Can't be much difference from #6-#9 in the rankings.

Re: OWGR -Week #33
Hanson withdraws so apparently there are now insufficient owgr points for David Lynn to qualify automatically.

Re: OWGR -Week #33
I just read in Ryan Ballengee GolfNewsNet blog that Gleneagles has been downgraded to level 30.
That means Colsaerts needs a 3-way tie for 2nd or better to pass Kaymer. Lynn and RCB have no chance to qualify automatically.

Re: OWGR -Week #33
There have been a few WDs from Gleneagles and indeed, at the moment it looks like it will slip in the 30 point bracket. Barclays looks to be pretty hefty this year @~74pts (up from 70 last year), but both will need TBC as the week goes on...
I forgot from last year, what's the FedEx rule when someone in the top 125 WDs? Is no. 126 moving in or not? At the moment I see the field published is 124 (presume because of Dufner)...

Re: OWGR -Week #33
Only the top 125 are eligible regardless of defections from within that number. 126 not qualified.
Decent field in the web.commer this week, Knox, Chopra and half a dozen others not destined for Bethpage.

Cheers kwin. Not a nice rule...
Sadly Levin is out as well due to the sudden passing of his brother...
Down to 123 then...

It's posted on European Tour website as a 30 pointer therefore there only (by my calcs) ONLY Colsaerts can make the team and ONLY Kaymer can lose out. The permutations are simple, Colsaerts must finish no worse than a 3 way tie for 2nd.................

Re: OWGR -Week #33
Not only that, but at the moment is just hanging on the fringe of the 30 pts bracket after Paul Casey has vanished as well from the field... So, if anything, it could even slip down to 28 pts (started with 34 based on the initial list about a week ago) if this trend continues...

Re: OWGR -Week #33
Under normal circumstances, Colsaerts would have withdrawn given the Monday finish in the US.
The tournament sponsors and the European Tour are grateful to him for playing seeing as his performance is the "only show in town" as regards the RC.............

Re: OWGR -Week #33
So what are Luke and Tigers chances of at #1.
Pretty sure the only way Tiger can get #1 is a win and about a 14th or worse from Rory
I believe Luke can get to #1 with a 1st or 2nd with some help from Rory.

Totally forgot we were being treated to AWT's Bethpage black. Can tiger use memories of old to boost his chances of the jackpot? Is Glover even into the barclays?

Glover is on Late Summer vacation. He wasn't even close to qualifying.

Re: OWGR -Week #33
Projections for #1 this week (if Barclays is worth 74pts):
To remain #1, Rory needs to:
- finish in a 2-way tie for 5th or better, if Tiger wins
- finish in a 3-way tie for 2nd or better, if Luke wins
- finish solo 51st or better, if Luke finishes solo 2nd (and if Tiger is not the winner, of course)
Lee can't reach no. 3 even if he wins...
And it'll be bye-bye top 100 for Paul Casey... hopefully we'll see him back in there again soon... DC and Gary Woodland are the next notables getting ever closer to that dreaded exit...

Re: OWGR -Week #33
Harrington could move as high as #33 with a win, but if Garcia wins once again, he could jump up all the way to #6!

Final count:
- Barclays @ 74 pts
- Johnnie Walker @ 30 pts
Watney could climb as high as #16 with win...
