OWGR - Week #45
Welcome back Martin!! A great and well overdue victory by the German!
Due to quite a few last minute passes to the HSBC tournament, the number of owgr points to the winner is 'only' 62.
But in the end Rory did just enough to overcome Lee and to become the new world no. 2!
Kaymer is moving back to #4 and the European 1-4 lead in the rankings is restaured once again.
Freddy's runner-up place moves him up to #32, while the good results from Oosty and McDowell mean a
much needed boost to their owgr prospects for the near future.
Tiger has been overtaken by Wilson and Senden and will tee it off next week from the #58 spot...
The OWGR table after week #45 should look like this:
1 Luke Donald
2 Rory McIlroy
3 Lee Westwood
4 Martin Kaymer
5 Dustin Johnson
6 Steve Stricker
7 Jason Day

Re: OWGR - Week #45
I'm writing these things from my holidays, so I'm a bit slow to catch up with everything. Just a quick word about the top ET CT guys... Fleetwood will finish his great CT season somewhere inside or around #130 spot, while Pavan will be delighted not only with his victory this week, but also with entering the top 200 in the world!

Holidays?]What's that all about??
Not sure I know what you mean.
Missed all Sunday's action, not good enough, I know, but vey surprised to see that "German efficiency" would be pgatour.com's headline.
Disappointing from Scott and Westwood especially and The Mechanic got a big spanner in his works.
Matteo and Crane also among "losers" as they might now struggle to restore their top 50 positions.
Enjoy the rest of your hols, pd, can't find a bucket and spade among the emoticons, so will have to do.

Re: OWGR - Week #45
Cheers kwini.... buckets&spades would be quite in order for the place where I am, but luckily I'm well equipped in that regard... Hard to find a real golfing link with this place, apart perhaps from a very 'criptic' one (a bit like those late quizes on the other thread)...
- I'm on a small island (only 10-15 miles across)
- the most famous person associated with this place has given the name to the place of birth of one of the greatest golfers ever
...so where am I?
Just got myself a bit up to speed with all that Steve Williams-saga... What an idiot! Feel sorry for Scott for all the horrible mess this is creating around him...

Perhaps there's an island just off the coast of Genoa . . . . . .

You're straight in the right ball park, but no... Genoa wouldn't satisfy my temperature requirements for a sun holidy around this time of the year...

Very good! The little island of La Gomera, which is apparently the last piece of land he touched before descovering America... Believe it or not, they squeezed a golf course even here, but I promissed to my lot not to touch it...

Not aware of any direct connections with Seve here... apart from the fact that you have beautiful views of La Gomera from his Buenavista course from across the water in Tenerife...

OK, Am going back to suggest a link with Columbus (born in Genoa, which is where I started) and hence Columbus OH and JN, or Columbia, SC, and Dustin (perhaps one of the greatest golfers ever only in this particular house).

Dracula,
Missed your OWGR weekly updates. Outstanding, better than their own site.
57 Mark Wilson
58 Tiger Woods
59 VJ Singh
Wow, what an incredible change from a few years ago.
How many points will the OZ Open garner?

On my count, there are 19 europeans vs. 17 Americans in the top 50. That has got to be the first time in a long while that has happened.

Re: OWGR - Week #45
Rumours say Freddie Jac is considering joining the Euro Tour again, in order to be eligable for the Ryder Cup. What are your views? I always liked his attitude, and he's a good putter. Obviously we have many good names to take from, but why not Freddie if he stays hot?
Actually I already see him on the points list? Is he already a member?

Re: OWGR - Week #45
Cheers gents... Still have limitted access to internet for another couple of days, so only some quick guestimates for this week... Looks like Singapore's loss is Ausie's gain this year, not only that they stole away last year's winner in Adam Scott, but a good few owgr points as well.
- Singapore should be worth 40-42 pts (down from 48 last year)
- Ausie Open should be worth 44-46 pts (up from 32 last year)
The current top 4 are not playing in any of those, but they can't be troubled by anyone in the rankings this week.
I'll just need to revisit an earlier prediction on Tiger based on this much improved owgr estimate for the Ausie Open - if he wins it he could jump up as high as #25-26 in the rankings (and that would be on top of sticking one back up someone's bumhole.... )

Chopra leading on the European Tour and Schwartzel leading on the Japanese Tour...?! Must be just a dream, need to go back to sleep...
Ah, wait a sec... Daly retiring in the middle of the 1st round after hitting 6 shots in the water! That sounds pretty realistic though. I'm confused...

Re: OWGR - Week #45
Return to Senden.
A top two finish this week should secure his top 50 for year's end, I'd imagine.
Big day Sunday for Baddeley also as he could pass some guys on the "down" escalator.

Re: OWGR - Week #45
Senden will leap into the low 30s with a win, whereas Tiger and Badds will only trickle up a couple of spots each if they stay where they finished today... Watney on the other hand can get into the top 10 with that current T4 position... I'm cheering now for Jason (Birth)Day to win in Oz, but even a solo 2nd could be enough to lift him to #5 in the world...

Re: OWGR - Week #45
Started to go through a final check of the owgr points and noticed that the Ausie is not as rich as I thought in home points, and the opposite seems to be the case for the Singapore. That means these two tourneys will likely end up of similar strength (42-44 point range)...
Meanwhile it's a bit of a drama in Singapore, with Gonzo letting a 4-shot lead slip away and the unheralded Philippino, Pagunsan, has forced a play-off!
And then BANG!, after they just teed off on the first hole of playoff, lightening strikes and the play is suspended...!!!

Re: OWGR - Week #45
Either way, Tiger has arrested his slide and any sort of performance in his Chevron shindig will get him securely back in the top 50.
Where he'll find John Senden (about 45th?), Badds and Ryo but must be very close now for Goosen and Els?
Shame for Gonzo, Luiten must be kicking himself also.

Re: OWGR - Week #45
Quite surprised about Gonzo, he's usually a prety cool character but he left an almost certain victory slip away there (can still be his, of course).
I'll probably publish the week #46 owgr thread and a reduced owgr table update a bit later this afternoon. The playoff left for tomorrow won't affect the situation of the top 55 or so. There are some interesting developments this week, stay tuned...
