2012 Standings

See Spoiler Below for Final League Standings:
Spoiler:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keeper Rules

- 3 players per year max.
- Can keep players twice (so three years total per guy) before forcible release.
- Players take the value of there draft round in the first redraft.
- Players move up in value by 5 rounds for the second redraft, or as high as they can go otherwise.
- If you end up with stacked picks (multiple players as keepers who count as the same round) they build up backward. e.g. if my keepers are draft picks 3, 4 and 5 I would loose draft picks 3, 4 and 5 in the first redraft and 1, 2 and 3 in the second as each player would be upgraded to an effective 1st rounder by the 5 round rule and therefore stack up.
- Undrafted players are valued at round 10 for the first redraft.
- Traded players initially count as there drafted position with the +5 rule in effect for all subsequent years.
- Years of eligibility are team specific, based on the round value of the player when traded to you. e.g. if a player is drafted in round 12 and is kept by another team for one season they will be valued as a round 7 pick when traded in year two due to the +5 rule.
- Abuse of the above rule by trading away a player over the keeper period only to get them back afterward will invalidate the resetting of two year eligibility.
- Once a player has no eligibility left on a given team they will count as a 1st rounder if traded away to somebody else and retained

Thanks for that. There were multiple people going by the same NFL.com first name across our multiple leagues so I couldn't be sure which one it was in the keeper league!

Before we draft next week
Just a couple of rules to remember mainly for future years
Hope everyone is ok with these

This years draft was randomised on NFL.COM

next year we will draft in reverse of finishing positions
Also 1st year you keep a player he will Be redrafted in the round you selected him (so good value in late round picks)

The 2nd and final year you may keep a player ,he will move up 5 rounds from his original draft round
Obviously if drafted rds 1 -5 he would then become a 1st round pick

Right, using my secondary league manager power, I've set up a shorthand name for the league and made the league viewable to the public.

This is the same as for the East and West leagues and means that non-league members from 606v2 will still be able to use this thread to see what is going on over the coming months Smile

As its a keeper league I am going to add 2 I.R. Spots
So if one of your star players gets a serious injury you will be able to place him on IR ,then still keep him next season

Out of interest, how do the IR spots work. Is it essentially for using if I have Arian Foster (an obvious keeper) but he goes down week one and I need to realistically replace him in my team like you would in a seasonal league if a guy goes down rather than have him taking up a roster spot for the entire season with no prospect of returning...

or is it a bit of a holding pen where I can avoid dropping a player that is injured and keep him spare away from my main roster until such a point that NFL.com removes the Injury designation and I have to make a decision as to whether to drop someone else from the main roster to make room for the previously injured player or ditch the injured guy because he would be ineligible for IR.

My understanding is that it would allow you to keep Foster on your roster, without wasting his spot on your team, and you will be able to add someone else off the waiver wire.

If it works in the way I think it does, once a player is on IR you can't move him back to your main roster, he would have to stay on IR or be dropped, so I don't think the holding pen idea works? But I don't think I have fully understood your second point so if thats not what you are saying, apologies!

The second point is basically about it being a temporary store for an injured player who could come back onto your active roster.

I would prefer the first to be true, however if you get two IR spots and the you cant reinstate the player during the season then it seems slightly pointless as you would have to loose two Keeper worthy players in one season to full year injuries... relatively unlikely!

Rules for reserve spots

RESERVED PLAYER POSITION

Custom league managers may choose to enable a Reserve slot to allow an injured or suspended NFL player to be placed on a non-active fantasy roster slot. If a player meets a number of NFL-specific roster designations and you believe upon return to an active NFL roster that he will be an impact player for your team, you can place the player on this Reserve (RES) slot.

Players are eligible for the Reserved slot if they are officially labeled by their NFL team as:

RES: Injured Reserve
NON: Non Football Related Injured Reserve
SUS: Suspended
PUP: Physically Unable to Perform
EXE: Exempt
Once a player is moved to the RES roster position, you will have an open spot on your roster and can add a player to your active roster without the need to drop someone. Note that when the time comes to activate your reserved player, you will need to make a corresponding transaction to ensure your roster meets league-specified roster limits.

Once a player becomes active, you can keep him in your RES spot, but you will be restricted from improving your team via add, drop or trade since your roster will be in an illegal state. Note that your team will still earn fantasy points for matchups that take place, but you cannot improve your team via external transactions.

I can reduce it to one if people prefer it
But yes the main aim is so that if your star player gets injured you can still play the season without having to lose a bench spot

I would prefer it if it was season ending IR but this is the NFL.COM rules
However it does not allow anyone to store extra players
So seems fair

I'm still weeping after last night's techincal nightmare. My web browser and the NFL draft client fell out with each other from the 6th round onwards and I ended up with about 75% autopicks from there on!! Rounds 6 to 9 were all autopicked and I got Stevan Ridley (a Pats RB in the 6th round?? I mean come on!!), Kenny Britt (could be great, but equally could be awful given the off-field/injury/inexperienced QB issues), Sebastian Janikowski (a freakin Kicker in round 8!!!!) and the Bears defense (A FREAKIN DEFENSE IN ROUND 9!!!).

The final twist of the knife came in the very last round where I got autopicked another defense. Two defenses..... vomit

Can I just ask what the rules are about keeping players that went undrafted (if for example a Victor Cruz type emerges this year), would you get them in Round 15 next year as that's the latest possible?

Also what about trades, if you trade for someone and want to keep them is it at the round they were originally drafted for their first team?

Confirmed Rules

The basic rules for Keepers were as follows:
- 3 Players per year max.
- Can keep players twice (so three years total per guy) before forcible release
- Players take the value of there draft round in the first redraft
- Players move up in value by 5 rounds for the second redraft, or as high as they can go otherwise.
- If you end up with stacked picks (multiple players as keepers who count as the same round) they build up backward. e.g. if my keepers are draft picks 3, 4 and 5 I would loose draft picks 3, 4 and 5 in the first redraft and 1, 2 and 3 in the second as each player would be upgraded to an effective 1st rounder by the 5 round rule and therefore stack up.

Slightly undecided things

I can't quote for sure, but I think me and Forward Pass agreed that trades still mean whatever round the player was drafted in. This will potentially result in more of the stacking up effect described above.

We have not covered undrafted at all as far as i'm aware. I propose the following.
- Undrafted players in year 1 count as round 10.
- Therefore undrafted players count as round 5 in the second year.
This is broadly under the assumption that you should be rewarded for getting undrafted players, but that if there being kept twice they must have turned out to be a ridiculously good pickup and therefore a 5th rounder is still pretty good value.

I could understand a desire to have undrafted players count as round 15 players, so that's up for debate.

Hopefully that sounds okay to all?

All rules are as Crazy_dave stated above
I agree with his idea for undrafted players , any other ideas are welcome

Also regarding trades for players who have been keepers , if in the first year I would propose to keep same position in draft [with the +5 round rule]
However for players in there final year , to avoid silly trades I would suggest player automatically becomes a 1st round pick
Any thoughts ?

Makes sense to me
Is this basically to stop anyone trading away someone they can't keep by rule to someone else who the benefits from there still (relatively) low draft position.

e.g. I have a 14th round pick, I keep at round 14 value for one year and round 9 for a second year. I then have to release, but to someone else the player would be worth an 4th rounder (another round of +5 rounds applied) and probably very appealing value if they were such a great player that they were kept twice.

Edit: I've summarized all rule in the main post.
Some are listed as provisional, subject to debate

Those rules are fine by me, I assume that no one will be able to see who others have chosen as keepers until after the deadline to submit? Just so the decision on whether to keep players or not is not influenced by the players being let go by other owners.

Also, are you planning on doing some analysis on this draft too?

Yeah will do some analysis tomorrow or Wednesday night.
Been chucking the draft into a spreadsheet for Keeper purposes this evening as our rules are hardly simple to compute without the full draft list!

Rules all sound fine to me. If I'm being honest, I don't really understand them well enough to even be able to disagree so if those that do understand them think all of this is for the best then that's good for me! OK

I'd agree with the rules based on how I'm interpreting them but I think we'll probably have to have one offseason/round of keepers before we've all got the hang of them.

Wahey, we have a sticky!

Good analysis crazy_dave, Team A&E are already off to a cracking start with Marshawn Lynch possibly being out injured this week. Then again, that one week where they are all healthy and firing, I fully expect to put up 150 points Very Happy. If only the single highest score of the year won the championship

Great write ups again dave. I was constantly frustrated in my attempts to get a decent QB and TE. Each time I lined players up as being draftable with my next picks they wouldn't fall to me. I'm not a huge fan of Vick myself but felt he was worth the risk at that point, and, if I hadn't taken him I wouldn't have ended up with a starting caliber QB at all. With the TEs it got to the stage where I felt only dross was left so I thought I might as well take dross with upside at the end of the draft rather than mediocre low ceiling guys early on. As a result though my focus on RBs and WRs has really paid off and I'm happy with my depth there.

Sorry Forward Pass, I was really tempted by some of the deals you offered but I was always looking to ship some of my WR depth (namely Bowe) rather than my RBs. In the end I think I managed to get a better TE without having to give up anything I wanted to keep.

Good analysis there. Yeah I went with some pretty questionable rbs, but I'm hoping RGIII or Wilson will entice some sort of trade with a Newton-esque year.

I'm the first to admit that I didn't manage to draft any strong TEs but equally I made sure to draft depth elsewhere that I could use to trade.

In a few weeks time teams will be begging for Ryan Williams, Taiwan Jones and Robert Turbin.

Agree with you GB, I have a feeling I'm going to regret not picking Turbin up as soon as I saw Lynch was questionable for Sunday

I was delighted to see him still there. It gives me 3 solid young No. 2 RBs behind injury-prone starters. I'd imagine at least one will pay-off handsomely (my money, unsurprisingly, is on Williams).

Julio Jones is doing a job for me... in terms of points for Matt Ryan.

I'm chasing down Cherries whilst Drew Brees isn't performing
