OWGR - Week #34
Congratulations to Nick Watney and to Paul Lawrie for their convincing wins this week! This is more than welcome news particularly for Nice Guy Nick, who's descent down the rankings was begining to gather pace after a very mediocre year by his standards, but now he finds himself suddenly proppelled back up inside the top 20 in the world (at #19), together with the runner up from Barclays, Brandt Snedeker (up at #20). Hard luck to Sergio Garcia in the end, but his great couple of weeks are seeing him now sitting pretty inside the top 15 in the world (#14), while Dustin Johnson is moving up to #16. Paul Lawrie's 30 point 'earnings' for his win in Scotland are only enough to move him up 4 places to #30.
Congrats also to the Korean Kim Hyung Sung, who won the Vana H Cup @ Augusta (in Japan) and will jump up around 70 places somewhere around #170. We've mentioned already the historic performnace of Kristoffer Broberg from Sweden whose 3rd win on the Challenge Tour in only four weeks earns him automatic promotion to the big European league as well as a jump inside the top 200, somewhere just behind Kim Hyung Sung. We should be able to see him now at work against the big boys as early as next week, in Switzerland. And finally, well done to the American Darron Stiles, winner of the Web.com event in Knoxville and climbing up around #260 as a result...
The OWGR table after week #34 should look as follows:
1 Rory McIlroy
2 Luke Donald
3 Tiger Woods
4 Lee Westwood
5 Webb Simpson
6 Bubba Watson
7 Jason Dufner
8 Justin Rose

Re: OWGR - Week #34
#39. Ricky Barnes?
pd, Phil Mickelson down to #22. Bet that's a surprise to him.
More upward mobility from Tim Clark. He's not that far away now!
Thanks

Re: OWGR - Week #34
I think this is the first time Mickelson has been out of the top 20 since early 1994. Over 18 years.
And Yes, Ricky Barnes, where did he come from? He was 176th last week. Who knew a T24th could do so much for your ranking.

Well, he must've come there from my bad dreams last night... A silly Sunday midnight mistake, obviously... Fixed now! Thanks, GPB.GPB wrote:And Yes, Ricky Barnes, where did he come from? He was 176th last week. Who knew a T24th could do so much for your ranking.

Re: OWGR - Week #34
Early count for this week:
- Deutsche Bank @ ~74 pts (up from 70 last year)
- Omega Masters @ ~32 pts (big drop from 44 pts last year)
Same story in #1 chase: Tiger can overtake Rory only with win, Luke can do that with a win or a solo 2nd...

What does Harrington need to get back into the top 50?

Re: OWGR - Week #34
In theory 17th or better should give him a chance, but practically, considering other results that may interfere with that, I'd say a top 10 or so...sirbenson wrote:What does Harrington need to get back into the top 50?

Re: OWGR - Week #34
Cheers, guys.
Tiger will go back to world #1 if he wins and if Rory finishes worse than in a 3-way tie for 4th (if he finishes solo 5th, Tiger also goes to #1)

Re: OWGR - Week #34
If Luke wins he goes to #1 if Rory finishes worse than a 3-way tie for 2nd.
If Luke finishes solo 2nd (and Tiger doesn't win) he goes to #1 if Rory finishes worse than solo 26th.
Lee can't move higher than 4th even with a win this week...

so he's already 4th and even a win doesn't impove it? something sounds wrong there

Unfortunately for Lee, there's nothing wrong with that slowride, he is just too far behind the other three to catch 3rd spot even with a win...

Re: OWGR - Week #34
If Ramsay and Laird maintain their recent form, title of second-ranked Scot in Golf will switch from Glasgow/Scottsdale to Aberdeen.
Consolidation of good US form by Donaldson and Lynn. Good to see.

Re: OWGR - Week #34
Good news for JamieD is that his consistent good results are begining to show in his owgr rankings. He's currently moved up to #50 (!), but is pretty unlikely he'll still be there come Monday night. 50 spots lower down, DC is hanging on desperately to the #100 spot, but more than likely he'll be knocked out by Noh, Overton and possibly others from Boston. The real problem for him is... when (if) are we gonna see him back inside the top 100!?
Also, provisionally until Monday evening, Ramsay is up to #68, while KT Kim moves up to #64 (back to the winning circle in Japan)...

Re: OWGR - Week #34
Latinoamerica gets cracking this week with a visit to the Yucatan.
One or two vaguely familiar names (Canete, a Serna, Ruiz, Burgoon, Garza, etc, etc and even Manuel Villegas - but no Camilo . . . . yet anyway) but not quite so cosmopolitan as Ian Dury might have imagined:
In the deserts of Sudan
And the gardens of Japan
From Milan To Yucatan
Every Woman, Every man
Hit me with your rhythm stick!
