Khan confirms change in trainer
First topic message reminder :
Yesterday Khan confirmed he'll be going to NY to talk to a few coaches and admitted that he needs to work on his defence, which explains his desire to move away from Roach.
He also comically paired himself with Manny in his talk:
"If we had the defense we should have had we would be the best fighter in the world. That’s the downfall of me and Manny Pacquiao. We’re both offensively the best fighters in the world, but defensively we’re not the best.”
Source, Eastside Boxing
15th December is being lined up for his next fight with an opponant due to be announced soon.
Who would you want his his new trainer (assuming he does ditch Roach) and who would you want as his next opponant.
I think Steward or Richardson would be good, albeit Steward could make him very dull!
As for an opponant I would like him to avenge a defeat and Peterson would be good. I'm not sure on his ban but 15th Dec would be over a 12 months from his last fight but not sure what his ban is?

Here we go again. Khan gets judged by very different standards. I suppose he should be humble, polite and help grannies across the road. Or perhaps get chased in his own backyard by local fans like Burns did.

What a silly boy.....like all boxers biting the hand that fed them!!!
Roach is the best around and has done his best with an "instinctive" fighter who like Holyfield mixes it and gets sloppy under pressure...
Maybe he should give David Copperfield a go because he's going to need a magician to change him now....
Then again If the guy can pull a rabbit out of a hat.....
Then maybe he can pull some dignity and class out of one for the spoilt brat.....

Re: Khan confirms change in trainer
Khan has history when it comes to turning you're back on trainers and basically blaming them when things go wrong.
He is very disrespectful of his ex trainers. He muddied Oliver Harrisons name after he left him. Harrison is a good servant to the sport in this country and whatever Khan's problem was of him Harrison did not deserve that.
Likewise Roach who has done a very good job up to now. Khan should have handled this a little or a lot better.
SHAME.

WTF. Many boxers change trainers like confetti. If the boxer has lost confidence in his trainer he should leave. Its the boxer who takes the blows not the trainer.
Roach has done a good job. He's taken Khan as far as he can. Time for a new guy Did people criticise Lewis for changing trainers? Was it a sign of disrespect to fire Pep?
Watson, Benn, Collins, Froch, Ahmed, SRL, Hopkins, De La Hoya and so many more changed trainers because they felt a new guy with new ideas would improve them. Even that coke snorting man of the people Hatton changed trainers. Was he disrespectful to Graham?
The anti Khan fest is simply beyond a joke.

Wow some people are really attached to Khan on here! Khan has been exposed as a hype job and his tactic is to blame the trainer to deflect attention away from himself. He wants to con people into thinking that its the trainers fault he gets knocked out and with a different trainer he would be world class. Absolute tosh! He is an overhyped and overrated fighter. How many trainers has he had now!? I suppose they are all to bame!

Change the record.
He's had 3 trainers. Same as Lennox.

Have to agree, never been impressed, fast hands and good combos which is good for the fighters that won't bother you at the beginning of your career, but the complete lack of an inside game, clumsy footwork, lack of a boxing brain and a chin that can crumble at any time. Garcia is not the 1 punch KO guy everyone talks about, it's just khans chin is that bad
He needs to stop blaming others for his chin and inability to not return fire when hurt, Marquez can do it as he is tough as old boots, khan can't and untill he stops the bravado stuff he will never be a dominant champ

Problem with Khan is he thinks he's better than he actually is,the boxers who have beaten him are average and nothing more.
Khan is a decent fighter exciting to watch but nothing out of the ordinary and his chin is alway's going to be his achilles heel regardless of trainer.

Gordy, what are your thoughts on Lennox Lewis training Khan? I know Khan is a hype job, but with everyone else around today also similarly useless and not as good as anyone who fought in the 1990s, surely Lennox's undoubted expertise on all things boxing would give him the edge on all these overhyped, talentless frauds masquerading as professional boxers?

Re: Khan confirms change in trainer
Khan is a decent fighter. Nothing more nothing less. Boxers need to believe the are the best to compete. Anything less will result in regional title fighters. I believe he is probably the LWW with most talent. He needs a new trainer to bring the best out of him.
Is he a great? Far from it. Some perspective is needed. I know most of you guys like humble/boring boxers with the personality of a plank. Keep them and watch our sport die.
How on earth is he blaming others for his chin? He says Roach hasn't done enough to improve his defence. Guess what, he is 100% correct. Lewis saw that Pep wasn't doing enough for him so he went to the best trainer out there. Gues what folks, it worked. Ditto Wlad. If you have a dodgy chin, go to the trainer who will work on your defence. Its not rocket science. In fact its common sense.

Lennox Lewis has been knocked out the same number of times as Khan. The opposition was about the same standard as well.

True, but its self belief. Imagine him entering a fight thinking that his opponent is better than he is. Is that what ou will tell a boxer you are training?

A trainer wouldn't have to instill belief into Khan, the fact is Khans that deluded he still believes hes the best.azania wrote:Nico the gman wrote:Problem with Khan is he thinks he's better than he actually is,the boxers who have beaten him are average and nothing more.

What would he need to achieve to change your opinion? He won an Olympic silver and two world titles and the ring magazone belt, which for my money can be seen as a successful career if he were to call it a day now and never fight again. He may not be an ATG but he is certainly a good boxer and was world class- he was a legitimate world champ. No one's claiming he's an ATG so how can he be a hype job?

Ha. He may well be deluded but boxers have to be in order to be top class. Sheesh, no wonder the Brits love good losers, operative word being loser. When one who believes that he is a winner comes along, a hate fest starts. Interesting that Bruno is still the most popular HW after Cooper (both perennial losers) and a winner like Lewis is not revered in the way he should be. Its the mentality that breeds winners. You call is delusional, more competitive people would call it self belief. And yes you need to believe that you are the alpha male in a sport like boxing.
If Groves (after he has won a belt) claims to be the best, I would support him even though Ward would hand him his rear end were they to fight. Froch went in there with Bute as an underdog. If he had doubts he would have lost. You guys expect Khan to start doubting hmself. Incredible.

Truss is right, Khan does need to show some dignity and class, these latest statements are embarrassing.
There is nothing wrong with smelling the Joe and changing trainers, I think most of us expected it given Khan's total lack of public commitment, but to come out with these sweeping proclamations about how he'd be the greatest fighter on earth if he had been trained to defend is cheap.

khan takes too much criticism, which makes him insecure and aggressive in his approach to defend himself, which makes him say bitter and spiteful remarks about others, therefore making him less likeable and more open to criticism. its a viscious circle for somebody who has been spoilt.

Who are the most deluded sportsmen around?
Show me a world champ who doesn't believe he is the best and I'll show you a paper champ.
Personally I don't like Roach one iota. His messing with opponents weight leaved a bad taste in my mouth. Well done Khan for showing that chump who the boss is.
This is the guy who wanted Mosely to come in severely dehydrated to fight Pac. And now because Khan disses him you attack Khan.
This guy is looking to put boxer's lives at greater risk.

Re: Khan confirms change in trainer
Khan does not have a glass chin and its better than people make out. No he does not have a granite chin and its not one of his strengths but its not bad. Both of his knock outs have been from Huge punches from guys with power. And with the last he showed alot to get up and keep going, and if he just held on and tried to smother the fight he may have come around and managed to pull him self out of it. He also showed alot of grit when hit by Maidana another big puncher..
Yes his legs can go and he is not the type of fighter who can take allot of punches like some others but his chin is ok I think.
I just think he tries to hard to be spectacular and better than he is, and as a result he gets caught out at times. He needs to box smart using his speed and focus more on winning 12 rounds, if he ends up stopping them then great, but he needs to just box and take his time more.
I do understand his desire to build up his defense, as he is too attack minded and kind of impatient.
I think Booth would be great for him and he should train in the UK.

Re: Khan confirms change in trainer
Well, there have certainly been worse chins than Khan's, Tunes, but I'd still have to disagree insofar as I don't think Khan's whiskers can even be put in to the 'not bad' or 'ok' bracket which you suggest.
The likes of Limond, Gomez etc, not big punchers by any reasonable stanard, had him over earlier in his career, remember. I don't think the fact that he's lost by stoppage to both Prescott and Garcia is the cause for alarm in itself regarding his chin - moreover, it's that as soon as they did land cleanly on the danger zones (point of the chin, temple etc), it became almost immediately evident that the fight was over - and so it proved to be in each case.
Basically, Khan seems to have a ral panic moment where he's all over the place every four fights or so at anything above low domestic level - as such, I don't think his chin can be classed as anything but highly susceptible.

Or perhaps get chased in his own backyard by local fans like Burns did.
"Fans" is an interesting term for a bunch of tooled up teenagers from Coatbridge that are full of Buckfast. There isn't a fighter in history that wouldn't have turned heel and run like the wind from that lot and it's no slight on Burns that they deemed him a target.
They probably thought "wha's this dick thinking he's pure hard 'cos he's running an' he's got new trackies on an' that. Pure dobber man, 'mon wi'll chib 'im".
