Re: England vs South africa odi series ratings
Cook had also played the one good innings and nothing else, yet Smith who at least saw the new ball through on a couple of times besides scoring a 50 is rated lower. Can't understand Morkel being rated as low as 4. Robin Petersen bowled well throughout the series for South Africa and also contributed a few runs, but James Anderson who bowled only in patches is rated higher. Kieswetter is massively overrated for me, he was disappointing with the gloves and average with the bat at the most a 4 for me.

Re: England vs South africa odi series ratings
Here we go.
England.
Cook 5, nothing more than that one innings.
Bell 7. Got a few quick starts, but only converted one of those into a big innings.
Jonathan Trott 7. Played an important hand in both the wins for England.
Ravi Bopara 3. All the points for his bowling. Bowling along would have got him more, but he failed so badly in his primary responsibility.
Eoin Morgan 7. Played a fine innings under pressure to finish off an England win, and played useful hands in a couple of other games as well.
Craig Kieswetter 4. Disappointing with the gloves, average with the bat.
Samit Patel 6. Decent with the ball, average with the bat.
Chris Woakes 5. Looked good with thebat, but has to add a bet more edge to his bowling.
James Tredwell 7. Took his chance and bowled well throughout the series.
James Anderson 5. Bowled well in patches, but England would rightly expect more from the attack leader.
Jade Dernbach 6. Has the happy nack of picking up wickets, and has cut down on the slower balls a bit. But the overall economy rate does remain a concern.
Jonny Bairstow 4. Got his chance after a bit of waiting and got a start coming in under pressure. But then gave it away.
Graeme Swann 6 bowled well in the one outing, earned his rest.
Tim Bresnan 2, as was the case in the test match, nothing much from Bresnan to write about.
South Africa.
Graeme Smith 5. Smith struggled for consistency at the top and had the one 50 and then not much else.
Hashim Amla 9. Just continued from where he left in the test series.
JP Duminy 4. Inconsistent and a bit irresponsible from Duminy.
Dean Elgar 4. Not an easy start to his ODI career. Turned a few with his parttime spin though. May struggle to find a place when big Jacques returns.
AB de Villiers 7. Like in the test series, the ODI series was turning out to be one of unconverted starts for AB, but he scored his first 50 of the tour in emphatic style to rest control of a chase that was stuttering. Kept alright and captaincy too was ok.
Faf du Plessis 3. Not much of a contribution from Faf in the series.
Ryan McLaren 3. Not much with the ball, didn't have many chances with the bat.
Wayne Parnell 4. Certainly batted too high at 7, and barring one match, the bowling too wasn't great.
Robin Petersen 7. Bowled well throughout the series, and also contributed a few runs.
Dale Steyn 7. Bowled well in the matches he played.
Morne Morkel 5. Did alright.
Lonwabo Tsotsobe 3. Tsotsobe is a good ODI bowler, but this series he was very disappointing.
Justin Ontong not rated, he was brought in to strengthen the batting, but he wasn't needed at the end, and wasn't called upon with the ball either.
England.
Cook 5, nothing more than that one innings.

Re: England vs South africa odi series ratings
Not too sure gregers, A perfect 10 for me shouldn't be given away all so easily. England did manage to get him out below 50 a couple of times didn't they? He was involved in a runout or 2 as well. Don't get me wrong, Hashim was sublime, still there is room for improvement.

Re: England vs South africa odi series ratings
Here's mine
ENGLAND
Cook 5 - Captained OK but not at his best with the bat.
Bell 8 - Batted well throughout. Got in and got out a little too often in a role where 100s are the aim.
Trott 8 - The glue to this England line-up. Did his job very effectively until going down injured.
Bopara 4 - An awful series with the bat, but his bowling mustn't be ignored.
Morgan 8 - Another strong one-day series.
Kieswetter 6 - Poor keeping display in one of the matches, but generally OK in both departments. Still did nothing much wrong with the bat.
Patel 6 - Decent contributions with bat and ball, but perhaps not making the inroads as second spinner that we hope for.
Bresnan 2 - Continued his poor form before being dropped.
Swann 7 - Did fine in the game he played.
Finn 6 - Nothing too bad, but not quite the form he's shown in one-day cricket up to now.
Anderson 6 - A mixed series. Great spell at Trent Bridge but often failed to make early inroads.
Dernbach 8 - In a team missing Broad provided England with a genuine wicket-taker and death bowler.
Tredwell 7 - Continued to demonstrate how solid a reserve off-spinner he is. Dropped a couple of catches though.
Woakes 5 - Nothing of note in the match he played.
Bairstow 6 - Got himself in at Trent Bridge, before going too early with the big shots.
SOUTH AFRICA
Smith 6 - A few useful contributions but not a great series overall.
Amla 9 - Continues to make England pay. Not a perfect 10, but what more can you ask of him?
Elgar 6 - Steady start to international career. Messed around with in the batting line-up unnecessarily. Bowls useful spin option.
de Villiers 7 - Crucial knock at Trent Bridge, but still not quite as dominant as he has been of late. Kept well, but a few curious captaincy decisions.
Duminy 5 - A pretty poor series. Again not helped by being thrown around the batting order.
du Plessis 4 - Did nothing of note, and is now under pressure for his place again.
McLaren 3 - Short of international quality.
Peterson 7 - Nothing terribly exciting but important contributions in both departments.
Parnell 5 - Inconsistent, but bowled at least a couple of good spells. Massively overrated as a batsman.
Morkel 7 - Pretty effective use of his attributes.
Tsotsobe 6 - Not a complete write off but not having the effect he has in his last few one-day series.
Steyn 7 - Starting to show England why he is the leading bowler in the world. Nothing really special though.
Ontong 6 - Neither batted nor bowled.
