Swear filter. That was a stunning save, why do teams change their tactics when they're winning and the style of play is successful, stop sitting back Galway or you will lose this game

Balls, but I think they deserved a penalty earlier on after that save. That's it, changing your tactics has cost you Galway only yourselves to blame.

We're going to a replay, they will lose next week I think. Galway blew this.
GAA get their cash, blew up early.......
Cody showing a lack of class here as is the Galway manager. I like Cody which is a bit disappointing

When is the replay? It's ladies day next week, followed by the football final, then the women again.
It will have to be a Saturday night.

In fairness, Galway will be very dissappointed. Too many wides.

Personally I don't see why they should have replays. Why not go into more extra time and penalties like other sports?

Not the only reason for replays but yes a big one. GAA love a pay day and the number of semis involving the Dubs where they got a dodgy free to save their backsides and level it up is not a coincidence.

Re: All Ireland Hurling Final 2012
Brilliant game though. We're being spoiled with great finals in recent years.
What's even better though is that there are a few up and coming teams. Clare have a decent young side. Limerick have an even better one. The Dubs have joined the ranks of competitive hurling counties in the last few years. Then there's Cork, Waterford and Galway.
I was worried in the last few years that nobody could touch Kilkenny or Tipperary. It wasn't good for the game that there was such a gap.

Re: All Ireland Hurling Final 2012
Cork are a while away from beating KK. They can beat Tipp, probably not Galway. If we get the 3 footballers we are supposed to be getting then we could be decent. Cork won't be great at anything until Frank goes and even then he will still have his puppets.
Galway need to win this for the good of hurling. 3 teams better than 2 competing. Cork are better than Limerick or Clare but in a few years the munster Championship could be better than the latter stages.

First replay in 53 years.
How would a gaelic shootout work though? Just pure goals?

Re: All Ireland Hurling Final 2012
There is no shootout in Gaelic football or hurling. It goes to a replay when extra time ends in the qualifiers I'm pretty sure.
This would go to extra time if it happened and another replay after that.

What ya talking about, Cork beat Tipp, my ass. They couldn't beat Tipp with 14 men in the Munster championship. Would you get away.

I don't have a problem with replays. The players are amateurs afterall and deserve a second chance. Funny Liam O'Neill, president of the GAA, predicted a draw last night.

Re: All Ireland Hurling Final 2012
I'd actually abolish the provincial championships in hurling (sacrilege for Munster men I know), and have four seeded groups of four.
This would give weaker counties in the bottom two seeded positions regular Championship games against the stronger teams from the top two seeded positions, who are far better than everyone else.
It's such a brilliant sport. There has to be an effort from the GAA to raise the standards of the weaker counties. And financial investment.

Ha fair enough Feckless. The GAA needs the money I suppose. I just wondered why they never bothered with more time and penalties. Must be a bit of a mare organising the fixtures sometimes....how exciting though. Wish I was there on the 30th!

Is there any reason hurling final replays are rarer than football replays?

Not as many scores in football, less goals especially...........................therefore higher probability of being level?

Re: All Ireland Hurling Final 2012
I dunno. There are normally more scores, so it's less probable that both teams will have the same score at the end?

The important word there is think. Could we absolutely, should we have beaten Tipp earlier on in the year, yep. I have siad before that the mjority of gaa players and probably coaches are idiots. They don't know how to play the extra man, they think they should always use that man in the backs instead of pushing on and using it to add impetus to the forwards. Cork sat back and Tipp did what they do well and bate us out the gate.
John would the fact that we got to a semi final not suggest we are better than Clare or Limerick? Yeah we had an easy enough route but we beat Waterford who got to the Musnter final like

Re: All Ireland Hurling Final 2012
I think this champ'ship has shown that there is 2 o/s teams in Galway & KK and a second tier of Cork, Tipp, Waterford, Limerick, Dublin & Clare..................
If you look at the Ch'ship matches between these teams in 2012 you will see why:
Tipp bt Cork 1 pt.............even game
Cork bt waterford by couple of pts..............even game
Tipp bt Waterford by about 6..............not overly dominant
Tipp bt Limerick with a late rally..............close game
Waterford bt Clare...........1 point
Clare bt Dublin............point or 2
Limerick beat Clare............3 or 4 points..............very even game
All in all, perhaps Tipp, as the only unbeaten team above could consider themselves as genuine No.3's, but given their performance in the semi, im not so sure............
