Quick handicap question
I'm not a member anywhere so I maintain a handicap by using the Today's Golfer Handicap tracker. Never had a problem with it before but it seems to be playing up today.
My handicap was 12.1 and I just shot 9 over. I though I would go down 0.6 as I'm 3 shots below my playing handicap and move to 11.5 yet it's only took me down 0.2?
Either the system isn't working properly and is screwing me out of 0.5 or I'm missing something?
Any answers or help would be welcomed.

Re: Quick handicap question
It depends on the SSS of the course you played on. If the par is 69, then your gross would have been 78. However if the SSS is 67, then your score is only one better than SSS, so a reduction of 0.2.

Then your gross was 81, nett 69. The SSS is 70, so you are one better than that, so a reduction of 0.2.

He's only going off SSS, there is no CSS in this case.

Re: Quick handicap question
You must bear in mind, that your handicap determines the amount of deduction made for every shot under your handicap see the list below
above 18 then deduction is 0.4
Above 12 then deduction is 0.3
Above. 5 then deduction is 0.2
I believe that under 5 handicap then all cards must go to the county, and they will then post your handicap but the deduction will only be 0.1 for each shot under handicap.
Hope this helps

Dunno where you're from opw but up here in scotland the home club administers all handicaps with no "county" involvement for category 1 players or anybody else. Your category breakdowns are correct however!

Re: Quick handicap question
The club administers handicaps for us too. As long as the Sinclair ZX81 handicap computer works!
Had a bit of an anti-climax myself on Saturday. I ended up -3 net. CSS usually -1, the 2 shots below would have taken me down a shot (to my lowest playing handicap). But Saturday was one of those days where more than usual seemed to have a good knock and CSS was -2, thus leaving me without the extra 0.1 I needed to achieve the cut.
Shame really, had 3 really good weeks in a row and hoped I'd done enough to cross that line and get down a shot. Don't think there are many qualifying comps left either now. Still the Winter League partner is pleased I didn't get a cut!
