A paean to the Mizuno MP-FliHi...
How good are these 'irons'? Originally invested in a 2-iron and now have the 3- and 4-iron substitutes as well. Took me a bit to swallow the ego and substitute my original 2-, 3- and 4-irons but these Mizzy FliHis are the dogs b****cks. Easy to hit cf. a blade and look fairly traditional at address. If you don't like the look of a typical hybrid but fancy some help with the long irons, give these a go.

Re: A paean to the Mizuno MP-FliHi...
I have the 3 and the 4
They are the only clubs in my bag that i know i can shape both ways, which is so useful to me.
I can't get a draw on my driver no matter how hard i try. The 3 iron FliHi travels a good 200 yards for me (prob more for most of you) and so often comes out of the bag on the sub 400 yard par 4s that require a draw off the tee, of which there are 2 definites at my club.
Plus if i put a slice on it, i can get it up high and it'll go 170ish. This again is useful to me as i have sixironophobia!! Ha ha
I don't know what i'd do without these clubs

I've long been an advocate of these things. I only carry a 2 iron myself as I wouldn't give up my other long irons... but if you struggle getting them up in the air these are a good alternative.

I've been thinking about one of these for a long time. Checked my pro shop account and it's in a very healthy state so I've asked them to order up the 2 iron version for me, will take the 5 wood out the bag

TG showcased the new MP rescue clubs in a recent edition. The new MP (CLK/C?) version is presumably an updated version of the MP-FliHi. They were of the opinion that the club was best-suited to the low-handicapper, whereas the JPX800 (larger club-face) was a better option for the mid-high handicapper.

NST - the JPX800 is one of Mizuno's new (ish) range of irons, whereas the MP CLK is a range of hybrids.
Unless they do hybrids in ther JPX800 range i'm not sure how hitting a 3 iron rather than a 3 iron hybrid could be more suited to a high handicapper. High handicappers tend to turn to hybrids because they can't hit a 3 iron

Re: A paean to the Mizuno MP-FliHi...
I have rediscovered the joy oh nailing long irons meaning I am down to a hybrid that probably sits somewhere between a 2/3 iron and a 5 wood. I now carry the full 3-pw for my irons.
As great as hybrids are I don't find them as useful as the equivalent iron, so if you can hit the long irons I say keep them in the bag.

The mp flihi isn't a hybrid. Its an iron. Just a very wide soled hollow construction one.

Mustputt: They have just brought out a JPX800 hybrid with the larger face. The CLK has a smaller face and is better suited to lower-handicappers (allegedly). LJ: I wonder whether the CLK has replaced the FliHi, or are Mizuno still making them?

Snap NBS. I had the 2 iron and have just added the 3 and 4 irons, I know what you mean about having to swallow the old ego a bit, but hey ho, tour players are using these (Mark Foster has all three) so if they're good enough for them they're good enough for me. I even managed to hit a shot that resembled a golf shot last time out!!
Plus, I just don't play or practise enough to be able to hit long irons anymore, also ranges are all mats now so it's difficult to practise the type of shot I hit on them blasted mats anyway.

The Fli Hi's are available alongside the CLK's as an alternative for players who don't like hybrids, they are supposed to be a cross between the mp long iron and the game improver long iron / hybrids, a kind of "Hybrid Hybrid" if you like! lolNoshankingtonite wrote:Mustputt: I wonder whether the CLK has replaced the FliHi, or are Mizuno still making them?

Here's a link to a good forum I browse frequently, it's a tour blog from the Mizuno Tour Van and the guys who do all the work on tour. Some great insight on here (here's Mark Fosters bag):

Anyway guys, this is my last post for a while as I won't be able to get online after I clear the desk out.

Re: A paean to the Mizuno MP-FliHi...
Another thumbs up for the MP Fli-Hi! I got the 4i as I couldnt really hit the 3 or 4 irons from my set that consistently. I don't really like Hybrids too much plus the rough at my place isnt so bad.
The high flight is nice and great for long par 3s or long approaches! Dont use it that much off the tee but its a good confidence and fairway finder after a bad hole. I dont really have a need for the 3 or 2 iron but would love to try them anyway!

Re: A paean to the Mizuno MP-FliHi...
My MP FliHi is becoming very inconsistent as my swing changes... as such I am going back to a shorter club more in keeping with the rest of my bag. Based on the fact that I can still hit my 3 iron.... the butter knife two iron is going back into play.

What do you mean shorter club? As in shorter shaft?
