- Spoiler:
- We arrive here at St Mary’s today for Southampton against Arsenal.
The game started off with Arsenal in possession, and they dominated it for the first half, resulting in many chances, the best falling to RVP who managed to miss a simple header from 8 yards out, much to new manager Captain United’s annoyance. Southampton struggled to get much going forward first half, however they did manage to stifle most of Arsenal’s attacks as we went in level.
The second half started, and it was Arsenal who took the lead early on, when Santi Cazorla produced a moment of magic, as he waltzed through the Southampto defence, to slot calmly home from 10 yards out. And from here on in Southampton never really managed to get anything of any substance going, with substitute Malouda spurning there best opportunity when he blazed over from 12 yards out. Arsenal held out for the win.
The Expert’s Opinion (by Voldemort)
Decent performance from Southampton but Arsenal had the quality but their defense looks very suspect and they need to improve it.
Both well set up, but Arsenal have a personnel edge
Away win, better players no tactical issues
Both teams set up very well, and Southampton give Arsenal a run for there money, but Arsenal’s quality comes through in the end.
Arsenal's attack is to too strong for a good prepared Solton side
Soton perfectly set up to combat Arsenal, great win
How the votes were spread
1-1-6
Southampton 0-1 Arsenal

Everton v West Ham
- Spoiler:
- Goodison Park played host to West Ham and Everton today.
And it was Everton who got off to a flying start, with Stewart Downing whipping in a delightful cross for Jelavic to head in from 7 yards out after 10 minutes. However after this West Ham managed to gain some control in the midfield, and they carved out a good opportunity on 37 minutes, but Chamakh fell over his own feet and Vorm easily saved.
The second half started off with West Ham on top again, and they came close when Fraser Fyvie struck the bar with a great shot from 25 yards out. This seemed to wake Everton up however, and on 67 minutes they took an unassailable lead through Scott Sinclair who pounced on a mistake by David Wheater to slot home. This killed off the game, and it fizzled out to a comfortable win for Everton.
The Expert’s Opinion (By Alvin Stardust)
A very close game with two teams needing the points for very different reasons. Everton look a handfull down the flanks, where I think West Ham lack quaility the most is at the FB posistions. The midfield looks very narrow, so they would create some changes going through the middle. Everton to take the lead, with West Ham working hard to level the game, but with the game ticking away, Everton will have the legs to kill the game off with a late winner.
Clear edge for Everton at home
Home win, evertons width will exploit that diamond but close game
I just think the West Ham FB’s aren’t good enough to handle the Everton wingers, and while they do dominate the midfield, they don’t do enough to win this game for me. Everton win.
Everton scored early on which helped then win the game
How the votes were spread
8-0-0
Everton 2-0 West Ham

Fulham v Stoke
- Spoiler:
- We arrive here a Craven Cottage for a fierce clash between rival managers Elmo and Marky.
And the first half was one that went by in a blur of missed chances for both sides. On 5 minutes the partnership of Defoe and Berbatov for Fulham linked up, however Berbatov somehow contrived to miss from 7 yards out, when it seemed easier to score. Fulham dominated the possession for the rest of the half but it was Stoke’s Peter Crouch who came closest when he rattled the bar with a volley from 20 yards out. Both teams went in even at the break.
The second half started off lively, and it was Fulham who took the lead on 51 minutes when the predator Jermain Defoe pounced on a lovely through ball, to slot home from 9 yards out. At this point it looked like Fulham would push on, however this seemed to provoke Stoke into life and they dominated the rest of the match, with an equaliser coming on 78 minutes when talisman Peter Crouch towered from a corner to head home and give Stoke a well deserved point.
The Expert’s Opinion (by Flava Flav)
Both teams went 4-4-2 and it tended to cancel each other out. Defoe and Berbatov look a great partnership for Fulham and caused problems, but Stoke were stronger this week and they just about held on for a point.
Although Stoke are good at what they do, which is soak up pressure putting on a great defensive display, I think attacking wise Fulham may just be to much for them on the day, and will create chances taking the lead early in the first half. However Stoke do look dangerous themselevs attacking the flanks which is where i feel Fulham are at their most vunarable. Crouch will cause all kinds of problems evening the game up. Fair point for both teams
Both suspect down the flanks, Fulham better going forwards.
Draw, cagey game with only 1 genuine wide player starting, scrappy with few chances.
Can’t see anything but a draw here, teams just cancelling each other out.
Very attacking game with both sides creating many chances , Fulham where in the lead but Young's last minute strike took the game to a draw
Tight game, Fulham just have the edge
How the votes were spread
3-7-0
Fulham 1-1 Stoke
Defoe; Crouch
Aston Villa v Liverpool
- Spoiler:
- Villa Park played host to a rematch of the cup classic today! Villa vs Liverpool!
And the game started off with a bang, with Darren Bent scoring after just 4 minutes, as he poached a goal. This was a great start for Villa, and they nearly made it two, when Demba Ba headed over on 20 minutes. But as the half went on Liverpool managed to get more going, and they grabbed an equaliser on 41 minutes through Isco, who caused problems all day down the flanks.
The second half started much more cagily, with neither side wanting to open themselves up too much. However this changed as the half went on and it was Liverpool who began to dominate possession, and substitute Theo Walcott made the difference as he set up the winner for Rossi on 81 minutes to give Liverpool revenge for there cup defeat.
The Expert’s Opinion (by John Lewis)
The Aston Villa attack was a bit disjointed today, they should have either played Ba and Agbonlahor on the wings, or moved to a 4-4-2 as it didn't really fit. As for Liverpool, they could maybe do with improving their defense as a better attack would have torn them apart.
Liverpool lack a cutting edge up front, Villa have too much threat up front.
Away win, tactics a bit iffy from both but Liverpool have better players an villas front 3 is very disjointed
I think Liverpool just shade this, as they have a better balance to there side.
Villa took an early lead but Rossi equalised the game seemed even till new boy Isco won the game for them
A shock maybe but villa just have a better feel to them, Liverpool need more in defence in my opinion
How the votes were spread
3-1-5
Aston Villa 1-2 Liverpool
Bent; Isco, Rossi
Chelsea v Newcastle
- Spoiler:
- New manager Beer took charge for the first time today.
And it was Newcastle who made the better start under there new manager, as they carved a couple of early chances out, but none to really trouble the goal of Chelsea. It was Chelsea who took the lead on 25 minutes when Juan Mata waltzed past Taylor, and powered home from 18 yards out to give Chelsea a goal slightly against the run of play. However they couldn’t hold on until half time, as Papiss Cisse headed home from a corner to give Newcastle a well deserved equaliser on 43 minutes.
The second half started off scrappily, and it became a battle of nutrition in midfield. And Newcastle were the team that ultimately came out on top here, and it paid off when that man Cisse scored again, after taking on Terry and powering home from 14 yards out and giving manager Beer an impressive win on his first game out.
The Expert’s Opinion (by Chelsea Ferguson)
A very good game here, Newcastle had three midfielders who worked hard and won the midfield battle. Cisse also did well against Terry who lacks pace. Mata tore apart Taylor today and got inside creating chances but it wasn't enough today.
Chelsea look good at the back, and will always create chances for themselevs. I think this week though they look a little to defensive with 2 midfielders holding, and Lampard doesn't have the legs any more. Newcastle look dangerous on the attack/counter and will hurt Chelsea running at them. Newcastle to take the lead out of knowhere
against the run of play. Chelsea will pile on the pressure eventually getting the leveler mid second half. I think with Chelsea going all out for the win, and without any instructions for subs, Newcastle will again hit them hard on the break stealing the win.
Newcastles midfield will run rings around Chelsea's, Chelsea a touch negative
Draw, same system Chelsea better forwards but Newcastle more pace and energy in midfield
Two similar formations here, but I like Newcastle’s midfield a lot, and I think they will dominate that area, meaning they win the game by a goal.
torres scores the only goal for chelski which managed to win the game.
Great win for beer today on his debut as manager. Really well set up from the toon to combat the threat of Chelsea.
How the votes were spread
3-2-5
Chelsea 1-2 Newcastle
Mata; Cisse x2
Reading v Man United
- Spoiler:
- We arrive at Reading for the visit of Man Utd today.
The first half was a bit of a non event really, with Reading’s five man midfield doing very well to combat any threat Utd had, however Drogba was quite isolated for Reading up front, so there were not many chances for either side, in a quite dire half of football.
The second half started with Man Utd more on top, but again they struggled to gain control over a tough Reading midfield, and it was Reading who went close on 56 minutes when Drogba powered through only to place his shot wide from 13 yards out. From here on in, Man Utd tried to get going but couldn’t and Reading held them out well. The game was a non event really as it ended goalless.
The Expert’s Opinion (by Glenn Roeder)
The Reading team made it difficult for United with five men in midfield and were helped by the United side not really putting much effort in their tactics. They had the players to get a point though.
I still think tacticly Bull needs to improve if he wants the results! I do however think his line-up are more than capable within themseleves at gaining something here. I also think they'll isoloate the wings, with Drogba not getting much support. Utd to take a 2 goal lead, and Reading will score late on tryning to chase the game. Will go mighty close at the end going for the point. Away Win.
United just have an edge going forward
Draw, tactics lacking from both teams
I see this ending in a draw. Reading stifle Utd well.
Better from United this week but Reading we really fired up and performed a smash and grab job to perfection.
How the votes were spread
1-4-3
Reading 0-0 Man Utd
Swansea vs Norwich
- Spoiler:
- Welcome to the Liberty Stadium where the high flying Swans take on a resurgent Norwich City and it was the Swans who took the advantage early on with an early strike from Ramsey causing the home fans to start to believe that they could once again take the three points. However their singing was silenced just three minutes later as Holt got on the end of a long ball from Biglia and chested it down to Hoolahan who scored a screamer. This caused both sides to settle and look to play attritional football and although both sides had multiple chances to take the points Ruddy and Jaaskerlainen had great days at the office and the game petered out for a well earnt draw for both sides.
Experts Opinion (Laura Robson):
This was a case of two sides turning up and combatting each other perfectly, Swansea did the right thing by trying to take it to Norwich but for once the Canaries defence stood strong. The first half showed both sides intents and although it ended up being a draw I was definitely not bored as I was too busy watching the Canaries manager Olly who might just be the one.
Both teams kept it tight in midfield and Norwich got a lot of men behind
the ball which made it difficult for Swansea. Corluka and Taylor aren't
the best going forward and Swansea were a bit narrow going forward
which meant that they always ran into trouble. A Holt header in the last
minute gave Norwich the shock win.
Looking at the tactics, I
think Norwich have come prepared looking to earn a point. I think
looking at the tactics they may not be able to repsond if/when Swansea
score that first goal. I also think they'll miss the attacking play of
Snodgrass. When Swansea do score, I can see Norwich falling flat trying
to chase the game with Swansea earning
a confortable win in the end. Home Win.
Draw, both teams struggling for cohesion with their systems
both sides played well while creating chances they looked evenly balanced i think a draw was the fair result
Game of the week, two very well set up sides
How the Votes were spread:
2-4-2
Swansea City 1 - Norwich City 1
Ramsey (8) - Hoolahan (11)
West Bromwich Albion vs Tottenham Hotspurs
- Spoiler:
- Welcome to the Hawthorns for today's visit of league leaders Tottenham Hotspurs. The home fans turned up hoping to build on the past few weeks performances but they were on the back foot almost immediately as Spurs broke quickly with Hazard and Dzagoev linking up and sending through Llorente who rounded the keeper.... only for Vlaar to get back and hook it off the line. This alone set the tone for the rest of the game with the Baggies refusing to give an inch. Granero inparticular stuck to his managers wishes and kept Modric anonymous throughout. Spurs carried on banging on the door yet at half time it was still 0-0. The second half saw Spurs become increasingly infuriated as all of the West Brom midfielders carried on sticking to the game plan. Even when Hazard finally got free again his frustration was only heightened as Buttner got across to make a stunning tackle. In the end the final whistle was welcomed perhaps more by Spurs than the Baggies as they could go back to London and not have to break down the immovable object that West Brom had presented perfectly. The final incident of the game came as the frustration that Spurs had suffered boiled over with Bale getting booked first of all for a blatent dive before picking up a second soon as he lashed out.
Experts Opinion (Jabba the Hutt):
Blaaaargdgutrgh Blaroeuohgfuhugtr, Baogghdsjghre, Bafuihgieri. (Translation by Google Translate: From high above on my Sky Skiff I watched as the underdogs shut out the dominant empire of the Realistic Premier League, the last time I watched something like that happen I got strangled with a chain by a women in a bikini that I had bought her so it really is something that I can relate to. If West Brom keep this up then they can definitely push for Mid Table this season and who knows past that. Spurs must look to kill off weaker sides as they will probably view this as 2 points dropped. All credit to the Baggies today though as Ent set them up perfectly.
Tottenham have fantastic players in attack but need to improve at
centre back. West Brom worked very hard this week and were good value
for their point, Lukaku's power caused problems.
I think although
West Brom do have holes in the team where Spurs can get at them, I also
think they've played to their strengths and would have a real go at
Spurs especially going forward. A very plucky display from WBA
battleing back to earn a well deserved point.
Plenty of attacking talent on display, not so much defensive
I
like West Brom’s team this week, and they put up a good fight, and were worthy of a point I think.
spurs scored twice to win the game after being 1-0 down
Spurs just too strong with Hazard and Dzagoev the key

I agree that I deserved to lose, don't agree that my full backs are a weakness, IMO Cissokho and Uchida are amongst my best players.
