Brilliant start from SL. WI already on the ropes. Only one team has 'turned up' for this match. A pity really. Just hope they can scratch together 120 runs or so... seems like that would be an impossible task at the minute.

The game is not over but the Windies will have to do something very special from here to get a competitive total.

No surprise who will win this T20 World Cup.
But it's a travesty for a sport where the "world champion" is so directly a function of where the game is played.
It's also contrary to the motivation behind the sport to have a pitch prepared for a final like this.
T20 is supposed to be about entertainment, goodness knows it compromised and jeopardised every other traditional legacy of the sport, but where is the entertainment in a one sided home side favouring bowler dominated sham like this?

Not a chance, i've seen test matches innings with more runs than this after 8 overs.

AWOP, the West Indies probably have the strongest batting line up in T20 and they are simply being outbowled here byt probably the best bowling attack in T20. I am enjoying it very much.

Massive over from the Windies, 21 runs coming off it. This is what they need to do to get a competitive score

West Indies recovered a bit, and then a poor call from the umpire cost Bravo. But Pollard and Russell then just went without doing anything. Good knock from Samuels, but the WI just haven't got enough, and they don't look like getting a lot more.

Dammit, Samuels out now. That was the Windies last chance.
Hell of an innings though, carried the West Indies to what could be a competitive total.

It's going to take an absolutley inspired bowling display from the West Indies bowlers to turn this around

A mighty fine performance from Marlon Samuels, but no support means West Indies are in no position to take advantage of it. Sammy and Ramdin now will have to see to it they bat the next couple of remaining overs and somehow score another 20-25 runs so that they will have something to bowl at.

Re: T20 World Cup Final 2012: Sri Lanka vs West Indies
Unfortunately this kind of performance was always on the cards as much as the 200 we saw in the semi-final. With the notable exception of Gayle and Samuels, the West Indian line-up essentially shuts its eyes and swings (ok, harsh but you get the point): against quality spin it was always going to be a challenge.
Gayle has often got out to spinners (relatively) early on LBW, it is a slight weakness of his and no surprise to see SL exploit this. Why England didn't start up with Swann or even Patel against him is a mystery.
No surprise to see Samuels get runs, probably the best player of spin in the West Indies and indeed one of the best in the world.
Unfortunately for the West Indies I think SL will deal a lot better with Narine than they have with Mendis. Still, I've seen stranger things. 130-140 could still be a tough chase with a couple of early wickets and the pressure of runs on the board. Can't really see it, but it's plausible.
On the pitch, I commented after the county T20s that I don't think slow and low pitches make for good T20 cricket. Whilst it's good to see spinners come into the mix, a pitch which makes hitting through the line near on impossible is a poor one for a format of the game which should encourage it - spinners will do well if they bowl well on any pitch offering some help, but the kind of dead pitch we saw for the semi-final isn't the right way to go. I'm not sure this one's quite as bad, but I would have liked a bit more carry.

SL need 138 to win the title. Good fight from the West Indies in the 2nd part of their innings, but that first half was so terrible, that it would take a superhuman bowling effort to make a match out of this.

Well there you go, 137 in the end. Not a great total but one for the Windies bowlers to have a chance at. Not over yet.

Very poor last over from Kulasekara.
At least Sammy has put to bed this notion that Russell is somehow vastly superior. Good little cameo from him. His bowling could be useful on this pitch, but will he back himself?
Do the West Indies dare to front load and open with Narine? Can they afford not to?

West Indies will have to be perfect with their fielding if they have to defend 137. Mahela has already been dropped and Sanga edged one through the slip.

I still think that its a defendable total. If the Windies get 1 or 2 more wickets in the next 5 overs it will be very interesting.

That's one of the worst innings I've seen in a world final from Matthews. West Indies now on top, much rests on Jayawardene.

Well, looks like the preparation of a low and turning track in tandem with the jitters over the drizzle has come back to bite Sri Lanka on the bum and frankly I'm pleased about it - and a good lesson to learn. If they learn.
Might be worth reviewing the DL method now that T20 has changed the thinking on what attainable run rates are.
