Code of conduct Empty Code of conduct

Post by lorus59 Wed 10 Oct 2012, 6:34 am

So the FA want to bring in a code of conduct for English players. The reasoning being that they are considered as role models. So they are not allowed to be the people they really are and we will only see a superficial persona. They won't change as people and surely it is up to kid's parents to tell them that footballers are NOT role models. It is better that there is no code of conduct so we can see these "heros" in their true light. As Mark Twain said "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." I want them to open it and remove all doubt.

I don't think its too much to ask for handsomely paid professionals to act like professionals rather than 17 year old chavs who just got their first car

But they won't actually change their personalities. They will just be told what they cannot say on Twitter and social media. They are being gagged.

I'm pretty sure a Twitter code of conduct was already established a few months ago, and lo and behold, nobody actually followed it.

I think it's ridiculous to expect footballers to be role models, it's nice if they could be, but to force them to be is just silly.

I think the point is not being a negative role model

Some 12 year old kids will unfortunately look up to a big name Footballer and more than their parents.
As a parent, you can only say/do so much but I remember being that age as well and having all sorts of hero's, who I wanted to follow.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
