Sharples made Cummins look like Lomu.
Yea we'll have to agree to disagree, I though it was spot on.
TJ isn't good enough, Palmer finished at Int level. I thought Parling was quality, best game for England.

As would a bigger lock, but mostly it was Marler not being able to work out how to counter the illegal scrummaging of Alexander rather tahn a lack of power. He needs a Defence against the Dark Arts lesson

Talking about for next week Flux. The thought of ROG leading the attack against Argentina isn't a pleasant one!
Hartley pops up after he gets his side on the front foot. Very smart move to get the penalty. Only Grey I think is upto Hartleys level at the scrum but again thats only based on club games. Would have to prove it at the international level

Thought Tom Youngs was ok actually , TPN is a hand full at the scrum. Seemed to sure on when David Paice came on at 2.

I'd dread to think what the Bok and All Black scrum would do to Youngs at the moment. Prefer a hooker to do his basics right first before any of the flashy stuff which Youngs is supposed to bring

Why do you think Youngs is a poor scrummager Johnny?
Not seen anything to suggest he isn't strong in the scrum.

Re: Fantasy Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
He has never been tested at the top club level really as hes had Cole/Castro and Ayerza/Stanks next to him who are all strong scrummagers.
Considering hes only a converted hooker hes not going to be the strongest and he did nothing there today against what isn't a really strong scrummaging side. Put Hartley in there today and the scrum wouldnt have struggled anywhere near as much.

You think? I don't rate Hartley as a scrummager, should get pinged more for his popping up. I think Youngs is stronger there tbh.

Re: Fantasy Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
I recall you calling Hartley the strongest set piece hooker in the home nations once upon a time
His popping up is very smart. Gets on the front foot pops up and draws a penalty as it looks like the opposition are buckling under pressure. Haven't seen Hartley ever get split at the scrum as bad as Youngs was today which is just suicidal at this level. If Youngs wants to become the regular England hooker he will need to step up there massively. Didnt have anywhere near the same impact this week ball in hand either

He was the form hooker in the Prem before injury. Basics ahead of everyone else we have. We definately missed him at the scrum today.

I counted 14 points we passed up in that second half. Turned down three shots at goal and Waldrom really should have finished. Youngs hesitates so much with the ball, he was spinning left and right, numpty. The three mistakes were 2 big knock ons in crucial areas and the tap we've all talked about.

Anyone see Jack Clifford play 12 minutes for Quins yesterday? Some one get that boy in the England squad! Better than McCaw.

It's because none of them ever play badly
Everyone bigs up players. It's natural, when you watch a game you're always a little more interested in players you might have on here.
Lad on other game swears Sharples made 12 succesful tackles yesterday but stats show he made 5 and missed 3 of those!

Surely if there was no evidence he wouldn't have been cited? If there is any evidence he's looking at a pretty lengthy ban as even the low end is quite high for contact in the eye area.

Re: Fantasy Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
Afternoon lads.
Thinking about the Six Nations, and the current AI's I'd be tempted to look towards building a team for the spring and our tour to Argentina next summer.
Upon that my team for the Six Nations, if I had free reign;
1. Marler/Corbs
2. T Youngs
3. D Cole
4. Launchberry
5. Deacon
6. Lawes/Wood/Haskell
7. Robshaw
8. Morgan
9. Youngs
10. Flood
11. Foden
12. Tuilagi
13. A Goode
14. Ashton
15. M Brown
This is a bit hypocritical for me, because I'm a advocate for putting some players out of position. But it provides a much needed balance through out the backline whilst not sacrificing ability. With straight running of Foden it adds another carrier into the back, alongside Tuilagi. Goode provides the extra play making option and a decent line breaker on the outside, the pair can easily interchange in the centres.
Again Deacon comes in to provide extra carrying and a line out leader. Morgan and Robshaw need to be stuck with, but the six must depend on the team and game we want to play. Left Croft out because I think it could be too soon for him.

Re: Fantasy Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
I wouldn't be far from that, I'm assuming Croft and Hartley won't be fit?
If I had free rein, I'd be looking at
Corbs
Youngs
Cole
Parling - gets unfair flak for me. I thought he had a good game on the weekend and we need some experience and proven lineout leaders, as its one of our huge strengths.
Lawes - carrying and physicality that we are missing
(Launchberry - promising player, great impact from the bench, but let's wait and see, he's got a long way to go)
Haskell - He's been messed around across the backrow. I think he is the best bet at 6 going forward
Robshaw - I'd be seriously tempted with Steffon at 7, Robshaw at 6
Morgan
Care - Can't stand Youngs, think he makes the wrong decision too much and pauses on the ball, without committing defenders. I'd prefer a proper basic scrummy like Dickson coming off the bench.
Flood - Who else? We need to blood Burns, I think we should have done it in the Fiji game. Having Farrell on the bench is pointless, he offers no impact
Wade / Eastmond / May- someone with a bit of x factor, who will come inside looking for work. Unpredictable players with gas to burn. Yep their defence will be questionable, but the best form of defence is attack!
Tuilagi - if he wants to bosh it up all the time, let him do it at 12 to help us get over the gainline, to draw in defenders and to terrorise the 10 channel.
Joseph - long term the best option in my opinion
Ashton - the best winger we have
Goode - another player with some intelligence to mix it up in the gameplan and to help out flood. Also got a great kicking game, which we need to help clear our lines.
Bench
Marler, ?, Wilson, LBury, Wood, Dickson, Burns, Brown / Foden

Interesting calls there Flux.
Goode would never work at OC for me, I'm a big fan but just can't see it.
Youngs is easily our best option at 9 when fully fit. I'd be happy with him and Care battling it out. Dickson so far from International quality it's untrue.

Re: Fantasy Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
I didn't want to change too much, as that'd be detrimental. I think if Hartley is fit we need to go back to best front row of Corbs - Hartley - Cole.
Dickson provides reliable ball IMO. Okay not so brilliant at finding a gap, but he dictates brilliant pace in a game. And unlike the others will take up ball to tidy up play.
He doesn't have to stick to OC. Probably start at IC even, but with the second fiddle in there alongside Manu it creates options.
