First topic message reminder :
Good evening chaps,
Thought I'd stick a thread in for how you rate the fights. I trust Alex and Sean will be about later so will look forward to some input!

Cano caught him a couple times in that round
The cut is seeping with blood but not getting into his eye yet, don't think it will go the distance

azania wrote:Hatton fought Caelo for the vacant LMW title. Previously he had lost a decision to Craig Watson and drew with N'Dou. He's not even the 3rd best in UK let alone europe.
So because 4 years ago he lost a British title fight and because he lost a decision in a vacant title fight to a 41-0 Light Middle Weight , while being a Welterweight, and drew with a decent Euro fighter in Ndou he is bellow Euro level at best?
sorry mate that complete Love sacks... Mathew Hatton is actually a good example of a Euro level fighter who is decent but not good enough to step up to world level..... Much like the guy Brook faced today.
Anyway, back to Brook.
Brook is the 3-4th best W in the world. This dude he fought was a nobody. I rate Brook very highly and lets not kid ourselves that this fight was just a warm up for a title shot. After the Jones fight he needed one.
Floyd, Bradley are ahead of him. I reckon his style will give Manny all the trouble in the world. Manny sees a jab in the same manner Dracula looks at a cross. Plus manny is past it and ripe for the taking.
I am just sticking to the facts. This was not a warm up fight it was a title eliminator, and who ever won this fight won a shot at the title. The guy he faced was there because he had come off the back of some decent performances defending the latin belt. He was not a bum like you say. No, not a world class fighter but not a bum.
What you are saying is because Brook blew him away, its just down to him being a bum, I think Brook deserves a little more credit for a good showing. Especially as he was under pressure from his last struggling performance.

I am aware it was a final eliminator mate. What I am saying is that the guy was not the best boxer there is out there at WW. OK, stick to what the boxing governing bodies tell you. They are corrupt free and always honest. Brook blew his=m away not because he was a bum, but because he IS a not too good fighter.
World class he is most definitely not.

Cano is winning this. His body shots are wearing Paulie down

Cano is a natural lightwelter, malignaggi is struggling in this and looks like the body shots are weakening him

Cano's won the fight. But this being NYC, Paulie will win this by a comfy margin.

SD
114-113 Paulie
118-109 Cano (!!!!)
114-113 Paulie
Can't argue tbh with 114-113 Paulie, that's what I had it but can't see how it was 118-109 to cano
Paulie will struggle with a welterweight with power, dulorme, Chaves and Maidana are heavily ranked by the WBA and all are big guys who hit harder than cano

The guy's a lightweight!!!! I had Cano winning by 2, but not way 118-109. Can't make a case for Paulie winning though.

Re: Tonight's Fights: Scorecards, discussion and thoughts (Spoilers)
I had Paulie shading it, He would have won it pretty clear if Cano did not get the knock down, But that made it very close. A Draw would not have been a disgrace But Paulie probably nicked it as his Jab was landing all night long. The judge who scored Cano 118-109 is full of brown sauce, some of these judges are outrageously bad.

118-1109 was sily, but Cano won. If Hatton has 75% of himself he still beats Paulie

19-19 morale aeon the first, Garcia the 2nd
Garcia is so wild, needs to land straight punches which will slow morales and enable him to land the big hooks as the fight goes on

Re: Tonight's Fights: Scorecards, discussion and thoughts (Spoilers)
It's over, massive left hook almost sends morales out of the ring, corner stops it before morales attempts to get back up
Pointless rematch and its sad to see morales to be stopped like that to someone who he would have embarrassed in his pomp
Lightwelter vs a fat Featherweight
Matthysse and Marquez would knock Garcia out

Pity it didn't go on for longer. Great champion, but tarnished in my eyes.

Sick knockout. Don't like Garcia, but Morales and the WBC for that matter deserved that. Remember kids - cheating gets you no where!

I was hoping Brook would get a better test than that. On that evidence his opponent doesnt appear to have the best chin. The shot that finished him looked like a jab.

Was hoping to see Brook's conditioning tested, as it's the one obvious question mark over him. A quick glance at the opponents record, made the result we got the most likely before the fight, so despite the sky hyperbole, kel just did what was expected really. Nothing to knock in what he did but nothing learnt either.

Has anyone seen a KO where the opponent does a 360 after getting hit? Garcia seems to have some serious pop in those hands, both the left and the right.
Good performance from him, I want to see him fight Matthysse next. Morales couldn't handle the power, although Garcia was very wild at times.

Re: Tonight's Fights: Scorecards, discussion and thoughts (Spoilers)
Fight of the night HAD to be Quillin vs NDam. Both guys shopped hugest punches. NDam was a damn tough guy and I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch (if the fight hasn't taken too much out of them).
Garcias left hook was devastating. It also makes the loss for Khan a little easier to take no doubt as it's undeniable that the guy has power. A Rios fight would be a tearup and Mathysse is the fight people would want.
I had Malignaggi ahead 114-113 (I'll post my scorecard if anyone wants to see it) and agree, the score in Canos favour was pure madness.
A good night for boxing, apart from the Alexander fight. But he won convincingly in a stinker of a fight, the issue he has now is that he's a world champion who no one really cares to see! A fight with Brook will be a match made in he'll. Alexanders style would make for a very frustrating fight to watch.

I just can't shake the feeling that Garcia has got a beatdown coming in his near future. There's a few big sharks circling the Light Welter's and I don't expect him to have an overly long title reign.

Re: Tonight's Fights: Scorecards, discussion and thoughts (Spoilers)
Agreed Sittingringside -
He is extremely wild sometimes and I do not believe for one second that he is that big a banger. We all know Khan has a serious issue chin wise & taking out a shop worn Morales, who clearly struggled with the weight given what he tested for, doesn't all of a sudden make Garcia a banger.
I think whilst exciting Garcia is there to be outboxed and against the guys at the top will be made to look very ordinary.
Paulie I don't think was a robbery (118-109 scorecard...whoever gave that should never be allowed to judge a fight again). Again though it was shown that whilst Paulie has heart, chin and some good skills he is shy of being at the very very top level.
I don't expect to see him in the ring again now until March/April next year where I fully expect him to have a rematch with Hatton, assuming the latter gets past Senchenko.
Kell Brook did all he could really. Ok were not sure whether his cardio is an issue as he wasn't taken to the latter rounds but I would have actually been more concerned had he been taken their by the guy he was in against. What did impress me was his accuracy and speed. His timing is very good and I was happy to see him sitting down on his punches, which is something he can often forget to do.
He got the guy out in 3 which was impressive enough and looked in the shape of his career.
Unless Alexander vacates then that's the next step for him. I think they have a chance of getting the American over here but equally could see it in the states. Either way, if Brook prepares like he did this time around, then I see him winning it. Alexander is a tricky customer but I don't think he is offensive enough to win a fight against Kell. I would expect a comfortable points decision...perhaps even a late stoppage if Brook brings his A-game.
That is another fight I expect to happen around March time. If both Ricky & Kell get through those contests then there is only 1 summer showdown happening in Britain next year and that will be a WBA & IBF contest between the pair of them!

Re: Tonight's Fights: Scorecards, discussion and thoughts (Spoilers)
I agree, he looks to be sitting down alot more in his punches now but in doing so he is shipping more shots as his feet aren't quill enough to get out if the way. That's all good if your up against an old light hitting morales or khan where you dont need to win rounds as he has a fragile chin, but put someone like Rios, Matthysse or Marquez who can take his power his defence will be shown up
His defence isn't great, tight guard but no real head movement unless he's attacking and is very wild.
Would love Matthysse-Garcia next, both are promoted by GB and both have power. I think Matthysse will break him up and take him out in the later rounds
