First topic message reminder :
Good evening chaps,
Thought I'd stick a thread in for how you rate the fights. I trust Alex and Sean will be about later so will look forward to some input!

Be nice to see him win his title shot and then face Khan in an all British affair. And I know who I'd be backing in that one.
Errr, what is the issue here. Kal is a very good prospect. The operative word is prospect. Brook is supposed to be the finished article. I rate him highly. But beating a face first, come forward brawler proves next to nothing. Have you heard of Salvido before this fight? Neither had I.

Brook will have to go to USA to fight for the title in an undercard fight. I wonder how he will hold up under the spotlight.

Coxy's boxing knowledge is based on boxrec so I think he might off known who Salvido was before the fight.

It's Saldivia. Someone wasn't watching the broadcast. Would like to know your thoughts if Chris Frock should travel to Canada to rematch Lucy Boot?

Re: Tonight's Fights: Scorecards, discussion and thoughts (Spoilers)
Come on guys what do you expect, there is 1 reason that they chose this fight and that was to get into a position where the winner of Bailey-Alexander must fight brook or be stripped of the title He is now mandatory and will have a better share of the purse when they fight.
They knew Saldivia wasn't going to test brook and that it falls under the high reward low risk category.
We still won't know where his stamina is at but hiring a conditioner can't hurt him. He looked strong and huge, don't know how long he will remain at the weight as he does look very big, but maybe it was because his opponent wasnt a big welterweight
Can he handle the big American shows, we won't know untill he goes over there but he has had to handle pressure throughout his career and fighting in front of 10000 fans can only help. I'm pretty sure many will follow him over there like hatton used to do

Hatton had thousands following him everywhere. Brook will get a couple of hundreds including his family.
He weighed in at 146 so I reckon he'll stay at WW until Khan sends him up to LMW.

And where this is relevant to my original point?
Plus no, I didn't and you're going off on a tangent. I said Brook looked great, nothing more and nothing less. My point was about you spluffing your load over a 4 fight novice fighting some random club fighter whilst giving zero praise to Brook - Brook didn't choose his opponent for the eliminator, did he?
He did what he had to do, he didn't get tagged by a silly punch and take a tumble on to his arris like your idol did/does/will always do. He smashed someone put infront of him in a clinical way and now we, as fans, get to see what he's made of when he steps it up to world level.

Re: Tonight's Fights: Scorecards, discussion and thoughts (Spoilers)
Brook has sold out 10000 seats by himself basically which is very good
I didn't say he will get as many as hatton but if he continues down this path he might when he gets older and becomes a legit world champ which will only help his fanbase.
Alexander is a big name in his hometown (like brook) but doesn't have enough fans to sell out arenas like the MGM, TMC and MSG

Brook Will be world champ, and he would beat Khan... this was not an easy fight tonight, he could only have done what he did if he was a worthy world title challenger. So lets wait and see

Kell could of done no more tonight, he beat a contender in impressive fashion and is now in line for a title shot.
There could of been a harder opponent picked for tonight, but this guy was chosen with the intention of stepping up early next year, no excuses now his next fight is in the big league(finally).

By walking onto it, This guy was no bum but barley landed a shot while taking alot of clean shots.... you could see how sharp and powerful Kel looked... I don't know why you say he was made for Kel when a smiler fighter last fight broke his nose and ran him close.azania wrote:How the hell can you get KO by a jab??!!!!
Yes there is another level he needs to step up to which is now world level, But looking at him I see no reason at all why he wont be able to take that step quite comfortably. and we already know from his last fight that he can get stuck in and fight when he needs too.
Tonight he showed deadly accuracy power and speed.. He simply did not even give the guy a chance to show what he could do. And you could tell by how respectful the guy was towards Kel, who has had over 40 pro fights and was fighting in an eliminator match up for a reason.

I didn't say you did. I as asking a question. Why so defensive?
Yeah Brook looked great. Look what was infront of him. Even his chief second had a mullet. I know you want Brook to do well. So do I. He looks a very tidy boxer. But I was praising the novice because he looked very good and an excellent prospect. I don't see the correlation between the two. They should be judged differently. One is just starting out and another has been having final eliminators for the past 5 fights.

Tunes the guy got ktfo in one round on his US debut. How on earth did he qualify for a final eliminator?
He was not similar to Jones. The only similarity is that they both had gloves on and both fought Brook. Kell has always been a very accurate boxer with a powerful jab. But no boxer should be knocked out by a jab. At least no decent boxer should.

He then knocked out 5 opponents winning 7 fights... You don't get to title eliminators if you are a bum... these are simple facts... He may not be world class but he is a competent fighter who Kel completely blew away.

Dont be so naive mate. Matt Hatton got a world title shot in a weight he had never competed in let alone an elimination shot.
Who were these 5 opponents? Anyone a near household name in their own home? After the Jones fight, Brook needed a confidence booster and the public needed a relevant deal. Matchroom called it an elimination fight to give Sky and the paying public something to chew on. In short all it was was a confidence fight for Brook. He did what he needed to do and did it very well. Lets not kid ourselves that this was a serious world level fight. t wasn't.

I don't agree, It was not an eliminator because of Matchroom, It was an eliminator because the winner gets a shot at the title.
Im just stating facts, and Mathew Hatton was not a bad fighter, Just because someone is not world class it does not mean they are incompetent. and its different when a fighter offers someone a fight as a selected defense much like the Ks do.. But we all know that also mandatory defenses are also put into place and to get a shot through that road you have to win fights.
I don't know his opponents that well because they are all Mexican and Argentinian.. He was making several defenses for the WBA latin champ, and they know how to fight...
Why does a fighter get to fight in two world title eliminators? .. I would say because he is a competent fighter personalty.

I haven't called him incompetent. But if you think he was world class and justified his high rankings, then all power to you.
Hatton is below Euro level at a push. But how on earth did he get a title fight at LMW; a division he never competed in? Nevermind. the governing bodies are all kosher and honest.

Bailey-Alexander is stinking up the place
Alexander doesn't have a crowd pleasing style and won't be a huge superstar but bailey is barely throwing and is looking for 1 big punch
8th just started, both lost points in the 6th for holding

This is my one of the worst fights I've seen. I wouldn't mind seeing the punch stats for Bailey.
This is going to be 119/107 to Alexander. Stinker of a fight.

Yea, totally embarrassing from bailey, didn't throw more than 20 punches a round
Alexander should have been able to do more and showed tonight why he isn't a big draw
Brook would be licking his lips after seeing Alexander look so passive and Kell should be confident of getting the W
Alexander UD, closer on the cards than it actually was, 117-109, 116-110, 115-111

Hatton was not a mandatory defense, And he was Decent Euro level, I have no idea how you come to the conclusion he was bellow Euro level when he very clearly proved him self competent at that level.
I would like to know who you would class as a Euro level fighter and who is a "latin" level fighters...
To me its like you see anyone thats not world class as poor or not even euro level...
Im my book Brook has proven that the only level he can now step up to is world level, and by the looks of things he has all the tools to be the next champ.

Re: Tonight's Fights: Scorecards, discussion and thoughts (Spoilers)
Hatton fought Caelo for the vacant LMW title. Previously he had lost a decision to Craig Watson and drew with N'Dou. He's not even the 3rd best in UK let alone europe. Anyway, back to Brook.
Brook is the 3-4th best W in the world. This dude he fought was a nobody. I rate Brook very highly and lets not kid ourselves that this fight was just a warm up for a title shot. After the Jones fight he needed one.
Floyd, Bradley are ahead of him. I reckon his style will give Manny all the trouble in the world. Manny sees a jab in the same manner Dracula looks at a cross. Plus manny is past it and ripe for the taking.

OOOOOOOHHHHH
Huge left hook from quillin in the 4th takes him off his feet for a KD after almost going down earlier
And again, another left hook, the French guy looks gone, stumbling all over the place. It's really heating it up as they exchange after the bell
It was very even for the first 3 rounds

WOW... NDam is one tough guy. Credit to his conditioning.
I had it 103-102 before the 12th. I would love to see a rematch, NDam deserves that chance, he fought his heart out.
As for Quillin? A good win, but he didn't work the jab enough. Looked a little uncomfortable against the ropes/in the pocket. It looks like he could be bullied later on by a guy who loves to box on the inside. But he can turn it up at will.
Great fight.

Cano looks fleshy, he was an average lightwelter yet weighed something like 148.6lbs at the weigh in, most of the gained weight looks to be on his gut

Looks like a long stinker of a fight ahead. I take it Alexander beat Bailey.

Yea, comfortable points win, bailey was awful, and Alexander wasn't much better but at least threw
Cano is cut in the 2nd, as its a really bad one, right over the eye
