Ospreys working hard in the Region
First topic message reminder :
Two Press Releases this morning on initiatives underway.
Justin Tipuric and Tom Smith will add their expert knowledge to a special coach development event being hosted by the Ospreys at Llandarcy this week. The duo will be discussing the Tackle Contest tonight (Monday 22nd October) as part of the latest clinic run by the Community Rugby team, led by Coach Development Officer Dan Owens.
The evening, which gets underway at 7.00pm and is open to all active club coaches in the Ospreys region, is the latest in a long series of events organised by Dan and his Coach Development Colleague Tony Thomas, aimed at improving coaching standards across the region and in turn, helping to raise playing standards.
AND
More than 100 schoolchildren from five local primary schools descended on the Ospreys' Llandarcy training bases on Friday to take part in the first Ospreys Schools Network Festival. A new initiative linked to the recently launched Ospreys Schools Programme, the Schools Network Festival will be a regular event allowing children from schools participating in the programme coming together for a fun day of rugby at the home of the Ospreys.
In attendance at the first Festival were pupils from Blaenymaes, Gnoll, Gowerton, Penyrheol and Ysgol Gymraeg Gellionen, and they enjoyed rugby fun and games under the watchful eye of Ospreys/WRU Participation Officers.

Damian Karauna leaves Ospreys for NZ Sevens role
Damian Karauna is to end a seven-year spell with Ospreys to return to is native New Zealand to take a coaching role with the national Sevens side.
Karauna, 37, first joined Ospreys as a utility back in 2005 having won four IRB Sevens titles with New Zealand.
He has been a technical analyst and age-grade coach at Ospreys, most recently overseeing the region's player development programme.
"Moving to a national side is a different challenge for me," he said.
"I'm not working with raw youngsters any more, these players are the best at what they do in the world."
Ospreys Managing Director Roger Blyth described Karauna as a wonderful servant to the region.
"He is a shining example of the Ospreys coach development ethos at work, and the fact that he has been headhunted for this role by one of world rugby's leading organisation's shows the quality of the work that we are doing here."

Ospreys have a future, Ospreys win leagues. Bath haven't produced anything of substance since rugby was amateur.

True but Bath were good enough to beat Ospreys pre season.

Club stalwarts enjoy matchday at the Ospreys
9 November 2012 11:58am
By Ospreys Rugby
The Ospreys make two complimentary tickets available every home game to each of the 77 clubs across the region, which are donated to club members who put in the essential hard work required to enable a community club to operate as a reward for their efforts.
As part of this initiative, and to recognise the loyal club men and women without whom grassroots rugby simply wouldn't exist, we are encouraging participating clubs to provide us information about the individuals receiving club tickets, to allow us to feature them on ospreysrugby.com.
At the Leinster game last weekend, Rob Woodhouse received Briton Ferry RFC's club allocation. Rob been associated with Briton Ferry for the last 25 years, first as a Bar Man then as a 2nd team player. Club Steward from 2004 to 2007 he has served on the Committee for the last 12 years.
Meanwhile, husband and wife Gwyn and Lynette Harding have been handed Bridgend Athletic's allocation for Friday night's Gloucester match. Gwyn is a coach has been involved as a volunteer coach and referee since 200 and is also the club's District representative, providing a vital link between the club and the junior district organisation. His wife Lynnette is the Mini & Junior treasurer and has been the team manager for the U15's for many years.
Andrew Hore, Chief Operations Officer, commented:
"Ospreys Rugby are delighted to provide these tickets to reward those people working tirelessly at the community clubs across Ospreylia. We recognise that without the efforts of everybody at grassroots level then the sport simply could not prosper, and the work they do day-in, day-out lays the foundations for any success we have at the Ospreys. Inviting them to be a part of a matchday at the Liberty Stadium is recognition of their contribution to the long-term sustainability of rugby in the region."

We had tickets a while ago but I thought this looked like a great offer at such a late date, never know what people's plans are.

The WRU don't give a flying feck about us fans all they are interested in is the hospitality and coporate boxes being filled which they will be.

Who would want to pay £75 a ticket too see Wales play Ireland?
Or put it another way, to watch a third tier team play in the 6ns?

If you really are a member of Bath Club as part of your season ticket, then we both you know you are talking sh1t. My Calcutta Cup ticket cost £65 quid, if you pay £165 then they saw you coming - and more importantly you should report debendture holders for flogging off seats at highly inflated prices on Viagogo or similar on-line touts.

Oh dear Madge. Don't try to be clever. You can be an okay poster sometimes and you'll find people are more sympathetic for your poor posts if you post in a normal manner. We are still the reigning champions.

Not the first time you have tried this Maesteg - I paid £55 for my ticket in the upper tier South stand via the RFU supporters club. Tickets at Twickers have been consistantly cheaper than the equivilants at the Millenium for the past 3-4 years.

Re: Ospreys working hard in the Region
YOUNG PROPS ON THE OSPREYS DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY HAVE ENJOYED A TRAINING MASTERCLASS FROM AN OSPREYS ‘ORIGINAL’.
Andrew Millward, WRU Performance Manager for the Ospreys region, hosted the first of what will be a series of special sessions for the Eyasses over the coming weeks, working with props from the Ospreys Under 16s and Under 18s squads at Llandarcy.
As a veteran of 94 appearances for the region prior to hanging up his boots to take up a key role within the Ospreys development programme, it was an invaluable experience for the youngsters hoping to follow in his footsteps.
Millward got stuck in with the teenagers, providing specialist advice and passing on tips and from his years in the front row with a practical exhibition, in order to improve the young players skills in the scrum.
Future specialist training sessions will be held in the coming weeks with Tom Habberfield working with the scrum halves, Mefin Davies the hookers and Ospreys Under 18s Head Coach, Shaun Connor – fourth in the region’s all time points list - conducting a kicking master class.
Speaking about his session with the young props, and the forthcoming masterclasses covering other key positions, Millward said::
“These classes really work on the positional specific skills rather than the team stuff. A lot of what we do is focussed on teamwork, so it’s important that we get down to the nitty-gritty with these boys on the areas that matter to their own individual development.
“Personally, I really enjoy working with young players one-to-one as they are like sponges, absorbing information and eager to learn. Particularly in the front row, it can be a real eye-opener for some of the boys but I’d like to think that they all took away some things from the session, which will help them to become better props.
“Our development pathway has excelled in developing front row forwards for the region and for the national set-up. Working with young players in this way will enable us to maintain what is a proud track record.
“Looking forward to the masterclasses with Tom, Mefin and Shaun, they are invaluable to our young lads and it’s massively important for them to have the opportunity to learn from people with such experience. Development from within is at the heart of everything we do, in the hope that one day the Eyasses will become fully fledged Ospreys.”
